txoutback 1
Hey everyone, I'm trying to pick between the Kalinka BP02 (low-rise with side rail) and the UTG MTU016 (pro with side rail) The Kalinka site shows dimensions for the left-to-right offset of the top rail as 25mm... which, based on my measurements, is exactly centered over the bore on my Saiga 7.62. http://kalinkaoptics.com/bp-02-ak-to-weaver-mount-w-long-tactical-rail.html The UTG PRO MTU016 looks nice, USA-made, and the price is better, and it has picatinny spacing on the rail... https://leapers.com/prod_detail.php?mitem=Mounting%20Systems&itemno=MTU016 BUT I have not been able to find the offset dimensions for the UTG, or any real confirmation that it centers exactly over the bore on a Saiga 7.62 or if it sits off to the side. I've seen numerous complaints about the OTHER UTG model not centering, but not enough about the Pro model on a Saiga. Can anyone please confirm if the UTG Pro (MTU016) is exactly centered or offset on a Saiga 7.62? Thanks for your time! Edited December 10, 2016 by txoutback
Mullet Man 2,114
There is no way to confirm. Due to variations in parts and assembly, two same model AK's could show two different final positions of a side rail. This is why RSRegulate uses centering adjustment in their 100% US made high quality mounts.
txoutback 1
I have two saiga 7.62s in front of me, and they both have a 25mm offset to center of the bore from the side mount. The BP02 lists that as the offset length. I'd just rather have the UTG one if it has that offset too.

txoutback 1
Contact them. Right. We'll see what Leapers/UTG has to say. Here's the diagram of the BP02 I was referncing. The 25mm offset is shown on the right side. For my Saiga 7.62's, it would fit perfectly in line with the bore. But I'd much rather have the UTG as long as the offset is the same. Spacehog 2,218
The UTG Pro mount is centered and not offset. To MM's point, with the differences in tolerances and the side mounts on the receiver, it is impossible to say it is exactly centered, but to the naked eye it looks center bore. I have one that I cut down on my S12 and had one on my X39. With both I could still use the front irons through the v notch. The Pros are solid mounts for the price, I have not had issues with either, however I have only mounted red dots and not high power optics where issues might be more noticeable. Pics below of the S12 for you reference: Hope this was helpful.

txoutback 1
Here's the reply from Leapers: Thank you very much for taking the time to send us questions and feedback via our customer service portal. For you information, our engineer have measure the UTG AK side mount item NO MTU016, and that measurement from the side mount to the center is 26.49mm. It will be about 1.49mm off to the right when you mount it on your saiga. That's plenty close enough... looks about like your pics Contributor. Sdustin 578
Other than looks it not being centered isn't going to hurt a thing. Think about all the past sniper rifles that had offset mounted scopes.

Think about all the past sniper rifles that had offset mounted scopes. Yeah, I'm aware of that. I just wanted it to be as close as possible. The TRS-25 is awaiting its new home.
