Make sure there's no magazine in it. Open it. Pull the takedown pins. and see what's wrong. 

 

Check that the buffer moves freely. 

You should be able to pull the bolt carrier out of the rear of the upper receiver.

Clean and lube everything per the manual below.

If I had shot the gun I guess I would do that. Seems like I should bring it back to the big chain sporting goods store I purchased it from?? I wouldn't even know what to look for..thanks for answering so quickly I appreciate it

You should ALWAYS take a gun down and clean/inspect it before use. NEVER just take it to the range and shoot it. That's a good way to wear it on your face. There's tens of thousands of PSI bare inches from your face.
