DLT 1,646
My 03 F150 has developed mild, but unattractive surface oxidation on the frame. I recently replaced the tires and it looks really nice, but that rusty looking frame behind the tires made the truck look old. Yesterday, I decided to apply grease on the frame and now it looks really nice with a dark gray appearance. Anyone else ever do this?
Sim_Player 1,939
You may find that grease attracts dirt (encouraging rust) while oil does not. If it's minor, you can knock it off with muriatic acid and prime/paint. Edited January 6, 2017 by Sim_Player
Sdustin 578
I say paint it.
Heartbreaker 1,085
Get an industrial size oven and cerakote the whole thing.
Tundra1 391
The grease will attract dirt, road grime etc. It will not inhibit the rust currently invading your frame. Bead blast and paint if you're inclined. I would personally let it eat, as is. More than likely it will not be an issue, especially being from Texas.
DLT 1,646
The cerakote suggestion is funny because a few years ago I saw a Suzuki samurai jeep that was painted inside and out with OD green truck bedliner. Tough as nails and used exclusively for hunting. Looked cool.
sccritterkiller 473
POR 15.....just paint right over the rust.If you prep the surface by removing the rust the POR 15 won't stick....just don't get any on you..it has to wear off...
