Silencer industry be hurtin'

Recommended Posts

Everything gun related industry is hurting right now. No threat of ban = lower sales. I am waiting for innovation to take over again. The last eight years equated to if it was semi-auto and held more than 10 in the magazine, it would fly off the shelves. Not so now and manufacturers are going to have to differentiate themselves again. Unfortunately, many of the upstarts may not make it through the down turn.

As far as supressors go, I know quite a few that have put down payments on them, in anticipation of the HPA passing. Even had my LGS say if I wanted to get that .45 can I have been thinking about, I had better get one on hold (down payment required) because once the HPA passes, there is going to be a two year wait.

They are not my LGS anymore.

What the supressor industry needs to do is try to get 41F repealed. Immediately. No one wants to deal with the new requirements when they've got a trust therefore the industry is slow.

Agreed. I would do another stamp under my trust if it didn't require the extra hoops to jump through. Honestly, I though we would see some positive movement on the HPA. IMHO, the current crop of Repubs need to be primaried hard and removed from office before the next general.

I think the other thing is that the novelty is fading, and practical performance/dollar type reasoning is taking over. People want camrys, not enzos.

I for one think the model of companies like Rebel Silencers, deserves to survive, and will do just fine, while companies like GemTech who have been living on Huge markup for decades, deserve to take a hit and adjust to market rates. Naturally, this explains why GemTech was sold on the cheap recently.

Hopefully, when SANITY returns to the BATF(uck), and simple pressure wave modulators (best description of suppressors and mufflers) no longer have a $200 tax, They will become a $30 or less safety item that is as universally accepted as a muffler on a car or lawn tractor!

They will not lobby for that for a couple of reasons.

1) They are banking on the HPA & Shush act. putting efforts into reversing "41f" would undermine that effort, by making legal compliance with a stupid system less onerous.

2) the big companies like silencerco put a ton of money into their kiosk system to have an edge over small companies with the electronic registration compliance aspects of 41f. That would throw away their investment, and make things easier for their competition to do business on a level field.
