  1. Yes, you can add the UTG rail without an 922r issue. What you CAN'T do is: add the rail and think you are now legit to run surplus (foreign) mags. As long as you are just changing the UTG rail and using factory mags OR American mags (SGM Tactical) designed to work with your Saiga you are good to go. Hope this helps. LTTP P.S. When in doubt get a 922r parts list, and make sure you don't exceed 10 foreign parts if you want "evil" features (high capacity mags, pistol grip, etc) You have 14 Russian parts coming out of the box.
  2. Thanks for the quick responses. I'm getting the feeling it didn't need the modified trigger. So I just broke out the file and took a little off the safety (probably less than an 1/8"). Now it clears the trigger and the safety is fully functional. Its such a close fit that the trigger literally has zero movement when the safety is on. Well, I wasn't expecting that issue but I guess it just shows you that you do learn something new with every build. Hopefully this comes in handy to someone else
  3. Background Info: Today, I was finally finishing a Saiga 308 I started converting last summer. (My first mistake) I had originally purchase a standard Tapco FCG and had planned to have the extra piece welded to the safety. Then while reading this forum I discovered Dinzag offered a modified FCG specific for the 308. I finally got around (4 months later) to ordering the modified arsenal 308 FCG from Dinzagarms. This isn't my first restoration and I did the complete job except reinstalling the FCG. Today I installed the modified FCG without any issues and used a retaining plate to lock it in
  4. Did most of a conversion yesterday on a Saiga 308. Realized I bought the standard Tapco G2 and not the Dinzag modified one. Has anyone tried just reusing the factor disconnector with the standard G2? It looks like the bump out on the disconnector would prevent the need for the modified G2 or the welded safety mod. For compliance, I'd still have U.S.>trigger, hammer, stock, pistol grip, and mags (x3) so I'm well under unless I use the factory mag. Any thoughts or failed attempts I should know about? LTTP
  5. Well mine is a March 09, so maybe I'll have the same fortune as you. Hoping to get to the range this weekend and find out if I have the no-stepped barrel and sooner or later I'll man up and remove the cover to see if I have a threaded barrel.
  6. Thanks for clarifying, I learned something new tonight. I'll have to check when I bring it to the range. I put a few rounds through it before I did the restoration but didn't notice. Thanks for the info.
  7. Is there a way to tell if it has a threaded barrel without cutting? I did have a stepped chamber and added the round bullet guide.
  8. Finished my first build this week. I was leaning toward a classic build but ended up going with a modern styled handrail so I can mount a light in the near future. Project took a couple hours total. I'd still like to add an AK74 style muzzle break (dinzag variety) but am paranoid about threading the barrel. I may have a threaded barrel but won't know unless I got the cover off. Future project I guess... Parts used: Tapco G2 Trigger Group K-Var Stock/Pistol Grip SGM Tactical Forearm (very light and locked up nicely using only the sporting forearm mounts) Chinese Surplus Mag No
  9. CSS is showing a Tromix FCG that says, "works for all Saiga Shotgun and Rifle Conversions". Does this modified hammer take care of the ND issues with the Saiga 308? I know Dinzag has a Tapco G2 FCG that is modified to work properly but is this similar? I like the price on this Tromix set up much better and will probably order it if someone can confirm it will not ND when I use the safety. (Apparently the Tapco G2 FCG has issues when used in the .308) Thank you
  10. So I bought a Saiga with the intention of not converting it...well, that sounded good for about 2 range trips. So I'm looking at K-var Stock/PG vs Tapco Fixed stock/PG. The K-var is about 30% more and I'd have to order my conversion parts from multiple places (more shipping). I'm setting up two different Saigas (.308 and a 7.62) so I'm hoping to get them as similar as possible so I'll be buy two of everything (when possible). Are these two stock equal quality or is it worth the extra for the K-var? Also, does the surefire handguard work well with both models?
  11. Wow, I'm a little surprised...I figured someone would have had an set from their pre-restorated 308 that they'd be happy to sell for a few bucks. Thank you for the suggestion prisonshank, I guess I'll have to consider those vs conversion. Any other suggestions for factory style wood stocks? Thank you!
  12. Hi, I just located your site about a week ago and wish I had found you before I converted my first Saiga...I now have the bug and just bought a Saiga 308 which I will be using it primarily range/hunting. I already own a converted saiga x39 and don't intend to convert this one immediately...(I know, we'll see how long I last with that factory .308 trigger) What I am looking for is a set of the factory wood furniture. I really like the look of it and for the purpose of this firearm it would give it the fit/finish I wanted. Anyone know where I can get a hold of this furniture? Thank you
