Hi everyone.
I'm completely new to this forum and to my newly acquired Saiga12. Anyways, I took my Saiga12 home last night and I tried inserting the magazine however it does not "snap" into place. I searched the internet and youtube for anything that could help. One youtube video explained that you need to apply pressure on the magazine to push it forward (away from the stock). However, I tried this with no luck. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas, or better instructions on inserting the magazine. Is this common problem?
PS This is the factory magazine, not ProMag.
Thanks in advance

I had that problem with one of three new factory mags I bought.
I finally inserted it as far as it would go, and gave the base a few good hard smacks with the palm of my hand. It snapped into place. I removed and repeated it several times. Now it goes in just fine.
Try that. It does take a good hard smack though, so be prepared to work on it a few times until it seats properly.

Mag loading instructions:
1. Hold the bolt back, either with one hand or with the bolt hold open engaged. This can be accomplished with the bolt forward, but it's harder.

2. Note the front lip of the magazine.

3. Insert the mag so the front lip of the mag catches inside the mag well.

4. Rotate the mag back until it snaps in place. With the bolt back, this should be easy. With the bolt forward, this can take a little force.

5. The gun is now loaded! Pull the bolt back slightly and release to chamber a round.

Occasionally, the rear lip on the mag will be molded wrong. One of my Surefire mags wouldn't latch into place because of this. I took a small file and carefully removed material from the bottom of the lip until the magazine snapped positively into place. This might be the problem you're having.

It sounds like you need to perform the "B" fitting that is sometimes required to fit an MD-20 drum. If you do a search, either here or on MD Arms website, you should find detailed instructions on how to do this. I believe Mike Davidson also made a youtube video showing how to make the modifications.Essentially all you are doing is on the rear of the magazine, you are filing the bottom of the tab that engages the magazine catch ever so slightly. You are not changing the angle, only removing a little at a time until you can insert the mag and hear it click into place.
Hope this helps
