Thanks to all of the info on this forum and excellent explanations I converted my Saiga 7.62x39 last weekend. Dinzag's website had excellent information. I inadvertently ordered the wrong bullet guide or I would be completely done. I have searched for my issue but have not found an answer here yet.

I have purchased some 30 round mags from various sources to find what the gun and I like. My problem is that none of the mags, other than the Saiga 10 round that came with the gun and two 30 rounders specifically for the Saiga will lock into the gun. The locking latches on military surplus mags from AIM and some TAPCOs I bought have the locking tab on the rear of the mag that is about twice as thick as the space present between the bottom of the receiver and the movable mag release/locking lever. When I put the mag in it will pivot back but not engage the lever to lock in place. There looks to be about 1/32" to 1/16" interference.

Did I miss something in the conversion - like changing the mag release/locking lever? I am hesitant to grind the tab on the mags down as that makes them dedicated to this specific gun. My gut tells me to grind down the lever but then the three Saiga mags will be loose.

Please excuse me and cut me some slack as I am completely new to AKs and am not sure of the exact terminology.

Thanks in advance for your help.

File down the top of the mag release lever, just a little at a time, then try the mag, if it dont fit, file some more. Dont file off anymore than you have to to get them to lock, so you can still use your 10 rounder.

I filed it down - had to use the Dremel but got the 12 mags to vary from full lock to caught and secure. Thanks for your advice!
