FFL/SOT and LE. Not above the law! I'm actually very compliant with the law. :-)
Pics will follow as soon as I get my grimy little hands on the gun. I just emailed Gunfixr to get an idea re: how to mount a Jpoint (mini red dot) sight.

I'm actually hazzy on the law in this area. Will the Shotgun actual be YOUR property? Or will it be the Department's?

Barrel length will be 13" if I recall correctly. I'm trying to leave as many of the decisions up to Gunfixr as he's the one who's doing the work.

As mentioned, fully automatic weapons manufactured after 1986 are "non transferrable", which means that they cannot be sold to or possessed by everyday persons. They can be sold to or possessed by either law enforcement agencies, gov't agencies, manufacturers who have paid the Special Occupational Tax to manufacture NFA items, or dealers who have paid the same Special Occupational Tax to buy and sell NFA items and who have a law enforcement demo letter. This letter in effect states that the law enforcement agency wishes to have a sample to test, whether or not they actually buy one. Both dealers and manufacturers must surrender any fully automatic weapons made after 1986 to ATF or sell them before the expiration of their SOT stamp, or when they go out of business.
Jmacken37s paperwork is in order, and he'll be fully legal.
Pics will be up soon enough, as well as a vid link.
PS, I haven't seen the email yet, I'll check it out.

Actually, the gun will be the property of the business itself.
Just like right now, the gun belongs to Unique Armament Creations, not me.

Howver, this is leading to some other more radical changes that should make up for the lack of the FAL handle.
It will look unlike anything I've seen so far.
JMacken, How soon do you need it?
I have a 2day 3Gun shoot the end of Aug., and might look into taking it and showing it off.
However, if you need it before then, it's no problem. I'll do a "shop gun" and take that next year.

Nate,
I'll be deeply offended if you don't take that gun with you!

Got the handguard retainer done, and the front sight, just gotta weld it on. Also got the rail mounted. Still have to make the rear sight. Since the AK front is adjustable both ways, the rear will be a simple peep.

Have you gotten a sense of the rate of fire? Can you pull singles? Swap the butt pads out if you think the recoil's not too bad. Love the look!

I shot 4 different kinds of ammo. Shot Federal bulk pack, 3drams powder w/ 1 1/8oz of 7 1/2 shot. Shot Winchester Universal bulk pack, 3drams powder w/ 1 1/8oz 8 shot. Shot Independence cartridge 3drams powder w/ 1 1/8oz 7 1/2 shot. Shot Estate cartridge high velocity 4Buck. This is high brass loads. Shot the low brass loads on gas plug setting 3, and the high brass loads on setting 2. All loads worked flawlessly. On each type I filled a 12rd drum, fired 2 shots on semiauto, and ran out the rest on full auto in one long burst. I even filled the 20rd drum with alternating Federal and Winchester loads, and it ran the whole drum in a long burst.
We ran approx. 275rds through it yesterday, pretty quickly. Almost the whole time, it was too hot to touch even the gas plug. The handguard was notably warm. The oil was burned off, and the gun was pretty much dry. In fact, the week before, when the above pic was taken, about 100-125rds had been fired, and the gun hadn't been cleaned or lubed since before that outing. In that outing, Federal bulk pack, the same as this weekend was fired, as was Winchester silver box low brass loads, with 3 1/4drams powder w/ 1oz 7 1/2 shot, and it ran those flawlessly as well.
Best guess at the time is that it runs about 600 rounds per minute. When I fired the 2rds and then the last 10rds on auto, it took 1 second. The 20rd drum took 2 seconds to empty out. It can be fired in 1-3 rd bursts with a little bit of practice. Already I can consistently run 2rd bursts with it.
Opened it up afterwards to have a look-see, with approx. 400rds fired total. The gas plug had to be forcefully turned out almost the whole way. The gas block was packed with crud, and the first groove of the puck was solid, with the crud having to be picked out in small chunks. The puck had to be tapped out. By inserting a finger into the gas chamber, a plastic-like coating could be felt inside the chamber. The gun was pretty much dry, with a small amount of lube still on the shaft of the bolt body, and the FCG. The receiver rails were dry. The gun was running fine when we stopped shooting, despite this.
The only time I had any hangups was if I didn't hold it tight, and give it something to push on.
There were a couple other folks shooting video, if I get copy, I'll get something posted. If not, it'll be sometime this coming week I'll reshoot the demo vids.

Says a lot about the reliability of the AK system! Thanks for the update.

The gun kept working, so when it was discovered I had no idea when it actually happened. I just took it out and we kept going.
It's fixed now. I made a new loop and welded it in. It's both heavier and thicker than the original, and the center spring guide was relieved for the room for it. It also fits better to the bolt, tighter to drag less on the cover, but still has room for movement.

First, is a rear end shot with the stock folded. The clearance of the charging handle over the stock can be seen, as well as the hole for the third added screw to lock the folding mechanism. The rear sight is also visible.
Second, is a front view with the stock folded.

In this pic, the center rail can be seen. It is low enough to also serve as additional retention for the dust cover.

In this pic can be seen the custom front bracket for the Galil style handguard. It is made of aluminum, and has 3 screws going into the front of the handguard, and 2 pins that hold it to the gas block.

The barrel has a custom AK front sight, which also houses the retaining pin for the flash hider, as on a regular AK rifle. The muzzle is threaded with the standard Saiga muzzle threads. The pin can be pushed in, and the flash hider spun off, to change for other attachments.

As this shotgun has the left side charging handle, the clearance slot in the right side of the dust cover has been filled, and the safety modified to clear the lower dust cover. Also, the markings have been changed to reflect the new firing selections: Safe, Automatic, and Repeat (semiautomatic).

In the next 2 pics can be seen the front and rear sling mounts. The front is attached to the handguard mount. The rear is attached directly to the receiver, and will freely rotate in either direction.

Shot all the same kinds as before, but added some heavy field loads, and some 3" Buckshot loads. The 3" stuff gives quite a ride, although I was only able to use the 5rd mag. The 10rd AGP couldn't keep up, the bolt would slam into the side of the round ahead of the rim.
