Ok people i know that if i sell a gun through a forum to someone and plan to send it to them i have to use a 01 FFL to do the paperwork.....but i need a few details.

Do i need to find a local FFL to send it out, or can i just send it to the buyers local FFL who will do the paperwork there?

is there an FFL fee on my end as well as the buyers?

thanks everyone.

A long gun can be shipped out of state by an individual to an FFL or MFG without any other licenses or charges. It must be well packaged and without ammo. It must not have any writing on the outside of the box indicating there is a firearm inside. You can use USPS, Fed EX, or as a last resort IMO, UPS. It's a good idea to insure it fully, it only costs and extra 10 bucks or so.

Get a signed copy of the FFL you are sending the gun to and keep it on file.

The post office will let you send a gun? They freaked when I tried to send that ammo to you.

Go in and talk to the Postmaster first. The counter people don't have a clue. My FFL01 here has horror stories. . .

Ammo is a hazardous good and has to have specific packaging and marking to be shipped. any carrier, USPS, FeDEX UPS etc can refuse to accept or transport a package if it contains hazardous goods. I know this from my work in biomedical research, blood, tissues, dry ice, flammibles, etc are all hazardous goods and technically you are not allowed to ship them without training. Fines for improper packaging or labelling can go as high $100k if there is an injurey involved as a result. ( a lot of these reg resulted from the ValueJet crash in FL 10 or so years back. Un marked oxygen generators were being shipped in the cargo hold, without proper packaging and labelling....as a result, one activated, started a fire and somethling like 120 people died in the crash.

These are federal regulations.....not just a good idea....it is quite literally the law.

Guns themselves are not hazardous so they should be able to be shipped anytime anywhere......they are just a machine.

TO make things easy read this, you will find the info that you need

http://www.gunbroker.com/Support/SupportFA...8&NoCount=1

And you can ship it to a FFL lic holder, you will need a copy of his lic to cover your ass
in case shit happens

Check FFL lic here.

First rule, cover you end all the time don't want anything to come back and bite you
in the ass.

Rifles and shotguns can be ship, USPS, UPS, Fedex, pistols UPS, fedex
USPS will dont take ammo or other stuff like that have to be ship
UPS or Fedex ground service.

I hope that helps you.
