This may seem stupid to allot of you but growing up I was a huge comic book fan.
As a big fan and a Patriot, I find this heartbreaking.
Even though fictional, America needs it's heroes now more than ever.

R.I.P. Foilhead, We'll take it from here!

Comic Book Hero Captain America Dies

Wednesday, March 07, 2007

NEW YORK — Captain America has undertaken his last mission _ at least for now. The venerable superhero is killed in the issue of his namesake comic that hit stands Wednesday, the Daily News reported.

On the new edition's pages, a sniper shoots down the shield-wielding hero as he leaves a courthouse, according to the newspaper.

It ends a long run for the stars-and-stripes-wearing character, created in 1941 to incarnate patriotic feeling during World War II. Over the years, an estimated 210 million copies of "Captain America" comic books, published by New York-based Marvel Entertainment Inc., have been sold in a total of 75 countries.

But resurrections are not unknown in the world of comics, and Marvel Entertainment editor in chief Joe Quesada said a Captain America comeback wasn't impossible.

Still, the character's death came as a blow to co-creator Joe Simon.

"We really need him now," said Simon, 93, who worked with artist Jack Kirby to devise Captain America as a foe for Adolf Hitler.

According to the comic, the superhero was spawned when a scrawny arts student named Steve Rogers, ineligible for the army because of his poor health but eager to serve his country, agreed to a "Super Soldier Serum" injection. The substance made him a paragon of physical perfection, armed only with his shield, his strength, his smarts and a command of martial arts.

In the comic-book universe, death is not always final. But even if Captain America turns out to have met his end in print, he may not disappear entirely: Marvel has said it is developing a Captain America movie.

Damn I can't help but think this has a deeper meaning...
Maybe when America stops losing it's patriotism he will make comeback too.

I just recently got into comics (and I'm freakin' 30! ), and Cap is my favorite comic book character (right next to Molly Hayes). Anyway, if you've been reading the Civil War comics, you'll notice that there is a lot of foreshadowing of this. Seeing as Cap really DOES represent America, and what happened in the recent series, it's almost fitting that he died (as sad as it makes me). The rumor is, that the freakin' PUNISHER may take up the role of Steve Rogers. God, I hope so!

No fear. He'll most likely come back in 10 to 12 versions like Superman did.

Anyone know who killed him? If it was Ironman, I am going to be pissed.

It is a bummer and I hope they bring him back. We can use more patriotic heroes- even in comics. +1 Cobra!

Can't help but think you're right on that deeper meaning. Seems to me they're trying to change the definition of patriotism.

Dude, your comment does come-off stupid at all (speaking for myself of course). I share your sentiments completely.

Oh, and well... gee, look what sits up on my desk's bookcase. They are Randy Bowen statues... and truth be told, Captain America was the very first one I collected. Granted, this may seem pretty lame (or pathetic) coming from a 47 year old, but these four particular Marvel characters (Captain American, Iron Man, The Mighty Thor, and Prince Namor the Submariner) where the cartoon characters I grew-up watching on television.

What more might I say?

Was it a member of the Mainstream Media that sniped him?

Even better, it would be revealed that is was Cindy Sheehan who fired the fatal shot, with Nancy Pelosi spotting.

I bet it was that gay Cowboy that Stan Lee wanted to introduce in one of his comic books who did it. unsure.gif

Probably wanted Capt'n to join him for a ride on Bareback Mountain, and got pissed at him when he refused. 010.gif

I've been looking into this. I have a niece that is a comic book artist and she has some ins with the comic world. (G. Perez ect.)
everyone is pretty tight lipped about the whole thing.

If I were to guess I'd say Nancy Pelossi or Ted Kennedy shot Cap.
O.K to be "fair and Balanced" maybe it was Dick Cheney with a shot gun. could have thought the wings on Cap's head
was a quail or something.

All joking aside, I think killing Cap is on par with burning the flag. They didn't even let him "go out swinging"
fighting off true evil like the Red Skull or the Hate Monger. A cowardly faceless snipers bullet strikes down
this symbol of freedom. Sadly, Patriotism does not die with glory, it dies with but a whimper.

Just my opinion.

Spoiler:

It was Crossbone and Sharon Carter (under the influence of Dr. Faustus).

My money is on Captain America making a comeback! Still a bummer though, especially at this point in time.

Looking back to Avengers #4.....

Perhaps the can bring Cap back somehow through the Vision..
I know the Vision got destroyed, but maybe the can upload his "memories" in to a new android body...
