Confiscation of Registered Guns Begins in Illinois

http://www.kc3.com/news/chicago_confiscation.htm

Chicago Anti Gun Enforcement (CAGE) unit. This elite squad, operated jointly by the Illinois State Police, the Chicago Police Department, and the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, supposedly exists to identify illegal gunrunners. However, information gained by the ISRA makes it clear that the CAGE unit is targeting law-abiding citizens, not criminal gunrunners.

The Chicago Police Department and the Illinois State Police have teamed up to make good on Mayor Daley's pledge that, if it were up to him, nobody would have a gun. Daley and his elite "CAGE" unit are apparently taking advantage of gun privacy loopholes to pinpoint certain individuals for inclusion in the confiscation program.

The ISRA is following up on leads in one case that has disturbing implications. An elderly first-generation Chicago resident was recently paid a visit by an Illinois State Police trooper. After asking to come inside the man's home, the trooper asked if the man owned a gun - to which he replied yes. The trooper then directed the individual to surrender the firearm. The man complied with the officer's demand and the trooper left with the gun. And the story gets better...

The gun in question was purchased legally by the man in the 1970s shortly after he became a U.S. citizen. When Chicago's infamous gun registration scheme went into effect in the early 1980s, the man registered the firearm as per the requirement. However, over the years, the fellow apparently forgot to re-register the firearm, and forgot to renew his Illinois FOID Card.

So...what does this all mean?

In the last edition of The Illinois Shooter, we reported on the activities of a shady taskforce known as the Chicago Anti Gun Enforcement (CAGE) unit.

Thanks to a ruling by a liberal federal judge, the CAGE unit now has the name of every single person in the United States who, since 1992, lawfully purchased more than one handgun in the period of a week. The CAGE unit also has all the makes, models and serial numbers of those guns. In essence, the Chicago Police Department is now registering guns and gun owners nationwide.

The ISRA has also learned that the CAGE unit has compiled a list of families where more than one person in that family holds a FOID card. Acting on that information, the CAGE unit is now contacting gun shops where those families have shopped, and is illegally registering all guns purchased by those families.

Now, it appears that the CAGE unit is scrubbing Chicago's gun registration list against the list of FOID card holders. Indications are that folks who have let their registrations and FOIDs lapse will have their guns confiscated. We have to wonder how long it will be until state troopers show up at the doors to confiscate the guns of non-Chicago residents who have let their FOIDs expire.

More later as this story develops.

What's a FOID? I have to think that it's a Firearms Owner Identification Card?
Whatta crock 'o shit! We don't play that way in Texas.
Matter of fact, our Governor is pushing for legislation that will allow us to carry anywhere (even the bar (!)) and we are being encouraged to carry all we can and frequently!
Plenty of room here for law-abiding gun-toting folks who don't like their toes stepped on...

Pretty much the same system as in Canada, you get a card (think "hall pass") that lets you own fire-arms, and if the card expires, then you're not allowed to own them... kind of the same situation I'm in here in WA state, my license is up in August...

So, how come the 2nd amendment doesn't apply to Illinois ?

This is the reason the 2nd is in the Constitution, to stop this type of overstepping by the government.

Herr Daley holds no regard to firearm owners. He has been quoted numerous times as saying that if were up to him "noone would own a gun".

The Illinois 'Fuhrer' holds Springfield by the balls; the Governor is useless and has been politically emasculated by the power that is Herr Daley and his modern-day Shützstaffel.

Hey MD_Willington: You must be referring to a CCW permit, correct? Otherwise, I don't know what in hades you are referring to.... since I reside in the state of Washington as well and we (to my knowledge) have no such FOID. You know something that I don't???

Gary, US citizens in WA State do not need a card.

I'm a resident alien, Canadian/UK citizen here with a greencard, I've been a legal resident of WA for 7 years now, green card came in 2005, so I can get US citizenship in 2010...

I need to acquire a WA State Alien Firearms License every 5 years to keep my firearms, turns out the DOL cannot issue me a license this year, so I'm screwed for a while...

My apologies MD_Willington; I didn't know.

In my defense, I don't read ALL the posted topics (ummmm....sometimes I have better things to do.... not that I don't greatly enjoy reading people's opinions and obtaining a broader perspective on things), so I must have missed your personal history statement (my bad).

Nonetheless, so you intend to obtain U.S. citizenship? (you didn't come out and say that directly....you simply mentioned, "...so I can get US citizenship in 2010...") If you honestly are intending to obtain U.S. citizenship, then congratulations and welcome!

If not.... then, if I may be completely honest, I would much prefer you take your backside back across our northern border, and work in your own country; talk smack about the United States from the sanctity of your own homeland.

Sorry my Saiga-brother, but I've encountered too many Canadians working in this state that simply love to bash our political system and our Commander in Chief when, IMO, they should keep their pie-holes closed.

Gee....can you tell I'm slightly "sensitized"????

We have a bill on the Governors desk now that he endorses which will completely seal the names etc. of all Texas CHL holders. It will no longer be a part of "Public Record". Maybe in response to the moron in Chicago.
I guess we look at our guns a bit different here in Texas....

Nope no smack talk here... don't plan on going back to the "Socialist Workers Paradise of Canuckistan"... Canada is too"the Light Beer of Commie" for my tastes.

I've never had a bad opinion of the US, just a shame that your own .GOV employees feel the need to become more totalitarian.

Truly do plan to become an American citizen ASAP...

Anyway, there may be hope, go back and see my other thread!

According to constitutional law types, the constitution and especially the Bill of Rights apply to protection of our rights from abuse on the part of the federal government and was never intended to apply at state level. The Founding Fathers apparently felt that the several and individual states would look after their own affairs.

Hey Guido, who is sponsoring this? Is this a bill for open carry in Texas or just allowing concealed carry everywhere?

I swear the gun grabbers will do whatever they can to get their hands on our guns.

Hello, Deamon
The Gov. Rick "Zoolander" Perry is sponsoring and pushing it. I believe it relates to CHL holders only, but "da Gov" is pushing for unrestricted carry in the state.
Basically, outlawing anybody from outlawing carry by a licensed carrier. I would imagine courthouses and US Post Offices and such would still be off limits, but basically everyplace else I believe is on the table.
There is also a bill sailing through to prevent employers from restricting CHL holders from having a weapon locked in their vehicle at work, thusly preventing those employees from having their weapons to protect themselves to and from work.
Seems like a good time/place to be a CHL holder!

The 14th Amendment largely destroys this argument, although, to my knowledge, it has not been applied to a 2nd Amendment case (not that I'm any type of law scholar).
