We took the Highlander to the body shop today to get the estimate. The guy was surprised we were driving it. He said we should leave it with him as it was so badly damaged we should not have been driving it. As this is the shop our insurance company wantsd us to use, and it gets great reviews from the people at work, we were ok with that. However, out of curiosity, I asked him how much damage he thought was there. He said probably more than $4,000.00!
WOW, that seems like a tremendous amount of damage for an unintended acceleration for about the length of the car. I guess it does not take much to really run up a big body shop bill these days. I got a kick out of my daughter's response when I told her. She asked me if that meant that she had to pay a higher deductible. If she weren't my kid, I would have been tempted to say yes.

Just out of curiosity, where's the E-brake on that vehicle? I know Fords have them down in the middle console area. Might be something to consider if you have kids still learning when you get your next vehicle...
Just a thought,

It has the old fashion, push in with your left foot, emergency brake. I don't like it there, but that is what we are stuck with. We got the rental car and it is a brand new Toyota Yaris. It is a very nice small car. It has the e-brake between the seats. The kids like it better than the big Highlander. I wouldn't mind the Highlander staying in the shop for a month, given the fact that the Yaris gets 40 mpg and the Highlander between 16 and 22.

Oh yeah I definitely prefer the E brake between the seats like in my Cobras. It makes those E slides and 180s/360s so much more fun and controllable!
Sorry WJ, couldn't help myself. I had so much fun flat spotting tires when I was growing up...lol. I had the 180 parking thing DOWN

Those were the days....
Oh and I don't think it's the "unintentional acceleration" thing that they really have a problem with, it's the sudden stop!
Ok sorry man...that was bad....

At least your fuel bill be significantly less while the Highlander is in the shop.

At least your air bags didnt deploy, that would have jumped the bill up quite a bit.

We had an Outback, it was a nice car.
The Yaris is a pretty nice little car. No trunk room, but for 40 miles per gallan, who needs a trunk - just throw your stuff in the little back seat and drive. You can tell that they skimped on sound insulation, as it is a bit noisy, but that, too, is much less of a concern at $4.00 per gallan than it was at $2.29.
