RIP for a funny MoFo.
During his career he won 4 Grammys and was nominated for 5 Emmys. Last Tuesday, it was announced that Carlin was being awarded the 11th Annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, the highest honor for an American humorist, which will be presented Nov. 10 in Washington and broadcast on PBS.
Also a little known fact; he was the host of the very first Saturday Night Live in 1975 and appeared 130 times on the Tonight Show.
I didn't agree with everything Carlin said or did, but he consistantly cracked me up when he said it.

Wow what a loss...he was a funny dude!! I must agree with Bob that while I didn't agree with all of Carlin's points of view I couldn't argue with his presentation-he'd make me laugh--he'll be missed..

Plus one. One of the funniest men that ever lived. People that didn't like him on the count of his political views just need to grow the hell up. I will miss him.

He was alright for a liberal anti American God hating drug user........
I just think comedians would rather have people joke about their deaths over being somber....
Do you know what Rodney Dangerfield would be doing if he were alive today?
Scratching on the lid of his coffin!

George Carlin was an America Hating Atheist, but he was funny. I think that he was at his best when he was young.
As he aged his bitterness began to show. I met him a few times when doing his personal security when he would come to Atlanta. He was a chain smoker that never laughed off stage and seldom smiled, when he did so it was in a completely perfunctory manner, because it was expected.
Still my condolences to the family.

The man was one of the great guys with whom everyone could relate to because he used material that was common to most everyone. I'll miss his style of comedy. Rest in peace, Mr. Carlin.

Don't forget, Stan Winston died the other day too.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=oxXkJoSgeXoGeorge Carlin, 2008 - he might piss you all off, but he is funny, and he makes a lot of sense, once you get past the BULLSHIT! Ive often thought of him when turning away bible bangers from the house.....and I am NOT an atheist
This man was one of few that ALWAYS made me laugh, no matter my mood or whatever at the time....and with modern media, he may just live forever......

I bet you'd give a "fuck" about old George's liberal bent if he was standing outside a prison demanding that the two scumbags who just killed a loved member of your family be spared from a well deserved execution.

Somehow, for all his "tough" talk & swagger on stage, I could imagine Mr. Carlin doing just that.

I still have no use for most ex-Hippies and liberals myself.

seeing as this is a memorial thread about a person who was never in any way in politics, hows 'bout we leave the politics of the man -what ever they may be- outta this. especially seeing as (and i am speaking as someone with a Masters in Political Science) most people who try and fling accusations and passing ideas about that political word they heard, like so much poo from the hand of a monkey with a wicked knuckleball...generally sound like complete 'tards.
now i am far from being a mushy person, and generally regard the passing of most people with enough sedateness that i've been accused of being a heartless bastard many a time, but George Carlin could do something amazing: he could tell dirty, foul-mouthed jokes about farts, shit, and various bodily orifices- yet you could watch his routines with your parents, and company, and your children, and complete strangers from a foreign land. his comedy belonged to generations, ranging from generations who could remember Lenny Bruce to ones too young to have seen him in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure.
If comedy is the universal language, his ability to make observations that felt like he had made them about YOU specifically makes him one of the greatest scholars of that language. If comedy is the universal truth, as people can not generally be forced to laugh at something that isn't funny, then that old man who resembled everyone's crude, mean-spirited grandad was one of the most honest men in history. For fuck sake, the man was about to be awarded the Mark Twain Award for scholarship....for a body of work that included dick and fart jokes! c'mon!
i have a long flight scheduled soon to travel back to the US from Eastern Europe, and i will feel good knowing that I am flying IN the plane, rather than ON the plane.

Man what a shitstorm.
I loved Carlin's comedy when I was a kid. Not as much later when he became so political, but I'm thick-skinned when it comes to comedy; I don't mind a good joke at my expense. And as for his protests or political statements, well, I don't really give a fuck. Never paid much attention to the political leanings of entertainers. They think they're smarter than we are, but in reality they only have a taller soapbox.
