OK, I have wrestled around with trying to figure out the right way to implement the G.I. poncho with the liner. I know you tie in the liner but then there is no where for me to put my head through! Ok vets, what's the right way for this amateur to do this? Thanks!

Sleep with the woobie.

You are supposed to make a hooch outta your poncho.

At least that what I know to do.

What he said ^^^^

You don't put your head through, you use it for a hasty sleeping bag sorta thing.

Holy SHIT I haven't laughed this hard in weeks!!!!

Yeah man, the liner is supposed to be used only when you're using the poncho to sleep in. But the thought of some dude flailing under a poncho liner trying to find a hole in it to stick their head in gave me a laughing fit. Kinda reminds me of the time I zip tied the zippers of sleeping bag together so the guy inside it couldn't get out.

No offense intended.

No, it actually is really funny because I knew I was missing something! Still, wouldn't it have made sense to build the liners with a hole in them so you could use it that way?Maybe a hole that velcros or ties shut when not needed? Geniuses I tell ya that invented the poncho liner. I would think that with all the tie down crap (cords and grommets) it would be a bother and just easier to wrap yourself in both without the sting tying. Hmmmm, maybe I'm thinking too much of this rolleyes.gif

You've obviously not looked around well at mallninjasRus.com and tacticalwheelbarrows.com.

Some enterprising jobber DOES convert standard cheap poncho liners into "tactical combat poncho liners" - complete with a hole for your head ( and a tactical missile launch controller, too naaaa.gif )

For non-hostile / long-term deployments (IE: Skinnies NOY shooting at you on infil, gonna be there a while), there are several items of snivel gear that are mandatory (desirable) in the ruck (and / or the A, B or C bags...).
A. 4 ponchos for construction of the "Taj-Ma-Hooch".
B. 2 or more ponch liners to add comfort to above.
C. Poly-Pro (hmmmmmmm - poly pro....).
D. A B.A.K. (Big Ass Knife - AKA "crew served MRE opener") and/or a tomahawk w/ hammerpole.
E. TP - and lots of it... (Nuf Said!)
F. Tobasco of Taco Bell Sauce...
G. Motrin (800mg preferable)
H. Some sort of Tactical spoon... (don't ask me why, but a spoon (mess hall-type) is invaluable.
I. A "tri-ox" stove
J. Two steel canteen cups...
K. A Leatherman (or other combo-tool)
L. Something to read... (seriously!)
M. Envelopes (Usually - on anything serious, they let you write "Free Mail" in lieu of postage...)
N. Pens and Paper.
O. BUG REPELLANT (until they issue the Permetherin...Deep Woods OFF works best.)
P. A hammock for really HOT places where a cot will roast you...
Q. As many canteens (2QT) as you can carry.
R. Two or more REAL towels...
S. Some sort of fan (for over your hooch)
T. Zip-Loc bags
U. extra 550 cord. (100' of better)
V. AA Batteries
W. Replacement MiniMag bulbs (or LED)
X. A solar powered calculator... (I was told there would be NO math...)
Y. Pens and Pencils
Z. a passport (BLUE regular US you paid for - NON the gov't issue Brown)...

THINGS TO NOT SEEK OUT....
AA. A can of Frequency grease
BB. A Box of Grid Squares
CC. A bucket of Prop wash
