Caught this on HBO last night.

Looks well done, but I'd like to hear from the jarheads out there on their take of it and all.

Hoo boy.. Our grandfathers go off to war and they are the greatest generation, our sons go off to war and they are generation kill?

... and written by a reporter for Rolling Stone?

For some odd reason, I expect this to devolve into the same liberal media bullshit pronto.

I sadly hafta agree. sad.gif

So, did they have the Marines raping the Iraqi women and killing the Iraqi men unjustifiably in the first episode yet? rolleyes.gif
Will
Nope.

Was really rather tame.

That's why I question where it's going.

I'd been looking forward to catching the series but have not read everything about it. just caught a brief clip about it being made - in Africa.

Is it based on the RS reporter's work? I was under the impression that it was a diary/book project by a soldier?

Someone hopefully will followup with the facts tongue.gif

I read the book not long after I got back and the book itself was pretty damned good I thought. The moral tone of the book is that unlike previous generations of vets, this one EXPECTS to be screwed by the government when all is said and done. Kind of a cynical view but dead on as far as I'm concerned. If the storyline follows the book I think some people are going to be upset by some of the things shown in the combat scenes. All I can say is in that war, it's damn hard sometimes to tell the combatants from the non-combatants in the thick of a firefight. How that plays out on the series remains to be seen.

Hey Gunny,

So it is the soldiers book, not the reporter right?
From what Ive seen/heard, they tried to really be true to the book
Guess we'll see.
Yeah, I look forward to hearing what actual vets say about it

The story is written by the reporter but it's entirely focused on the Marines and the events during that time period.

Just watched the first one when's the next one coming? Or is it already airing?

Man, I canceled HBO when they canceled Deadwood.

Maybe I should get it again.......

After watching the 5th episode I do get the impression its turning into the ole story about the war the media wishes to portray. After doing some research I did find alot of the members of the unit do not agree at all with Rolling Stone's(the reporter) version of events. One person was denied a scheduled promotion(over the book). One funny thing though...Fruity Rudy, PLAYED HIMSELF!!!!!

Michael Savage bitches about the vermon liberal rolling stone scum that was allowed to be embedded with a proud, brave group of Marines. He also went on to tell us how he cancelled HBO over this filth that they put on the airwaves.

It has definitely gotten "preachy" the last couple of episodes.

Bean.223
Preachy about says it, you know HellBoxOffice couldn't contain themselves for very long.

Thats why I DL it. ;D

That is a PVS 17 Night Vision Scope. Great Scope, a little heavy but very good.

I read the book too while I was on my third trip over in 2005 and thought the book was pretty interesting. I read that several of the Marines depicted in the books have a different take on events. I have yet to see any of the HBO episodes but I will see it.

Opinions to follow.
