I know that I for one am always looking for military rifle events or other events that I won't be laughed out of when I show up with an AK and everyone else has ARs shooting sub-moa. Personally I prefer the AK over the AR and do not see the need to get an AR to compete when I have a competitive .22 smallbore.

I am now proposing that we have a Kalashnikov postal match for the members of this forum. Unless someone has a valid concern or problem with me taking this by the reigns I would be very honored.

Included in this topic is a poll. Please vote to let me know if you are interested and follow up with a reply to this topic so that I can generate a list of everyone to PM at a later date. If we generate even a small interest in this I will go ahead with finalizing the plans.

My proposal is as follows.

Purpose:
The purpose of this match is to offer Saiga owners throughout the Country and World an opportunity to participate in a nationwide rifle shooting postal competition with the intent of fostering good cheer and good relations on the board.

Prerequisite and Eligibility:
Own or legally acquire a Kalashnikov type rifle, specifically of the Saiga variety. For this match only metallic sights will be allowed. If interest and demand is high an unlimited, open class will be started in the future to allow use of optics.

Categories:
Competitors can enter in one or all of the following categories. Barrels may be of any legal length. The categories will be broken down by rifle caliber.
A 7.62x39
B .223
C .308

Awards:
No awards will be awarded; however, bragging rights will be not only tolerated but encouraged. Results will be posted in the Competitors Section of the Saiga-12 forum.

Firing Dates:
Competition will commence upon interest in this match being fully recognized. Upon such time the definite firing dates and required postmark of targets will be announced.

Fees:
No fees will be required; instead members will be encouraged to donate $5.00 to the forum to become a Contributor.

Rules:
Your standard range rules should be followed. NRA 3-position rules are in effect. Link here for more details. http://www.nrahq.org/compete/highpower.asp

Equipment:
Any caliber rifle listed in the above categories section is eligible. Only metallic sights are to be used. Slings, shooting gloves, shooting jackets, shooting mats, vertical fore grips and spotting scopes are allowed. Bi-pods and other means of rifle support are not allowed.

Targets:
NRA official 100-yard military type targets are required and four (4) will be needed. This target is also know as the SR-1 Heavy Paper 100 Yard, Military Type Target and it is reduced from the standard 200 Yard SR. Target acquisition is the responsibility of the competitor. On the back of every target the shooter must include the following information- - -1) the shooters ”board name” 2) the specific course of fire target was used for.

Course of fire:
We will be competing using 4 strings of fire, utilizing three different firing positions.
1. Slow Fire, standing - 10 rounds at 100 yards in 10 minutes.
2. Rapid Fire, sitting or kneeling - 10 rounds at 100 yards in 60 seconds.
3. Rapid Fire, 10 rounds prone - 100 yards in 60 seconds.
4. Slow Fire, 10 rounds prone - 100 yards in 10 minutes.
Targets are to be shot in the order stated above.

Scoring:
A P.O. box will be created and targets will be mailed to me through that means. Each target will be scored by me and checked by a family member who has plenty of time scoring small-bore targets. All shots visually close to any scoring ring will be plugged. Scorers will total the score of the targets and enter the score on the target. No targets will be returned to the shooter unless a self-addressed, stamped envelope is included.

Match Bulletin:
A match bulletin will be complied at the completion of the match and will include rank listing of all competitors according to categories. Results will be published on the competitor’s corner of the Saiga forum within two weeks of the close of the event.

I would be thrilled! Just so long as I do not have half of the russian military sending targets to my PO box wink.gif

Where the best place to get these targets?
I reckon walmart doesn't carry these.
sicktooth
so we just set these targets up at home and shoot the required course of fire? then we send you are results, you score them, and then the scores get posted?

I say that the match uses an 8.5" by 11" page, on a printer.....signed in ink by the printer, the shooter, and one additional person, that witnesses the attempt on the target.

As I stated above this match is only a proposal and is subject to change. Something that I have been debating over for the last few days is something that I might think will encourage a few more people to compete.

How about instead of a mail-in to me we do something like Bvamp is talking about and you score your own targets, photograph them and submit them onto a dedicated "results thread."

Eliminating the mail-in will ease any privacy concerns that people may have, provide for instant gratification and facilitate a larger portion of this group to compete with relative ease. The only downside is that a shooter who didn't have the best day at the range and was fighting a nasty cross-wind might be hesitant to score, photograph and submit their targets onto the "results thread" because they fell like why bother...I have already seen so and so's targets and they definitely beat me. For this reason I have setup an email account for people to mail me their results. Only at the close of the shooting period would I post results onto the thread. The email addy is.... you ready for this? SaigaPostal(at)gmail(dot)com beer.gif

As far as targets go. For the mail-in idea having one standard target is necessary for proper scoring. A standard target is still necessary if we score and submit our own onto the board!! I am open to any other suggestions for target ideas. I am partial to the Army L target. Even though the Army L is designed for 25yd pistol fire I think that it will suit our needs just fine.

Thoughts, comments???

SR-1 Targets for download. The first one is for printing on legal size 11x17 and the second one is for standard 8 1/2x 11 paper. Simply open the download and save it to your computer. The file will open in Adobe.
