I shoot an AMAC with a Nightforce 5.5-22X56

with a 50BMG rifle handloading is a must. I load for $2.50 per rd. plus they shoot so much better. At the moment I have mine shooting 1 inch groups at 200yds. I know I get it down even tighter.

Jul 29 2008, 05:32 PM
These are rough numbers:
Reloaded brass with surplus pulled projectiles $2.50-$3.00/round
New Brass with new projectiles, like what barrett or others sell about $4/round
match grade with A max or lepua projectiles. this stuff is the best and most accurate $5-$6.50/round
Does not include shipping, and these are just the rough prices I have been paying.

I bought 200 rds of TALON remanufactured ammo and it was trash. The best groups I could get was 8-9 inches to 200yds. I have been using it to blast with and then reloading the brass.

you just shoot as much as you can afford at the time. It cost me $100 to fire 40 rds. 40 rds is more than most people will care to fire in a trip to the range.

I have the semi auto barrett and I just ordered an EDM windrunner, its a bolt action .50. But with the barrett. I have had that for about a year and each time i take it out, I will only run about 10 through it. so thats about 30 bux. I usually shoot it a few times and then let friends shoot it. I have yet to get it out to a range where i can stretch its legs though. My EDM should be done in mid nov. Once I get that I will probably make a point of getting out somewhere where I can get 600-1000 yds.
I am glad I started this thread, it sounds like there is quite a few people on here with a rather "well rounded" collection of firearms. That 20mm of Tony's is pretty BA, but that stuff sounds so expensive that its difficult to keep any amount of ammo on hand. With the .50 stuff, a good 1000 dollar investment into ammo will actually get you a couple hundred rounds. But that thing is awesome none the less.

I am sure as you know, the 50's are already banned in CA, I think MA, and NY. There are several more states such as HI and others that have been trying to enact there own state legislation but have started to come up against resistance. NOW is the time to buy. They are basically the same price they have always been, Since they are so expensive, so far there has always been adequit supply, not like saigas where there are thousands of people who can afford them or some people by like 5 of them. Only some poeple can afford like one or two. I think eventually if they get banned they will of course rise in value A LOT. Demand will still be out there and there wont be any more supply. However, if they are made transferable DD then they might be worth any more. There are a lot of scenarios, but basically as long as you want it and you will use it. there isnt any reason to NOT buy one. I think the worst case scenario would be, it ends up non trasnferrable and you have it until you die but cant sell it to any one. But at leas you would be grandfathered in.
To get back to your question though. the 50's are always named on the new gun bans they propose each year. They werent banned in 94, but now the libs have stepped up their assault on us and every year the legislation is really broad to cover way more firearms than the old ban did. So yes, the .50s some day may be extinct if we see legislation actually go through, or they are decared DD.

Click to view attachmentI dont know anything about that mag fed 20mm, but it looks like a fine firearm. I like tactical type 50's ("easy" to transport), that thing doesnt look so easy to carry around.
2200 for an anzio might seam a little steap to me. if it comes with a scope and some ammo then not too bad of a deal, but if thats gun only, i think it might be a little much. brand new i think they are currently 2k-2400. 2 years ago when our money was worth more, they were also all over GB and i think they were down to 1400-1800. so thats probably what that guy paid. like I said, if thats a package, its a dair price, if its not then keep looking or see if he will come down to about what he paid.

I don't have one yet, but I sure would like to get one before it's too late.
Here's one that a friend of mine built. It's a BLAST to shoot! He's got another one he built on an AK Receiver that is totally BA! He doesn't take it out as much because of the huge heavy barrel and tripod, but it was the first one I ever shot and I think I like that one better. But of course....it's an AK! (well sorta..)
Anyway here's his "little .50"
Click to view attachmentThis is a pretty cool pic of one of my buddies firing it for the first time. I love the way that thing clears every bit of debris in a ten foot circle around the shooter! Stand behind it around ten feet back, and it feels like it blows you back too. I can't imagine what that 20mm must be like! He really enjoys letting other people shoot it and filming them. Hopefully one day I'll get those videos....hint hint...

Click to view attachmentYa, half the fun of owning one is letting other people shoot them. My favorite "tragets" to shoot are those small disposable camping propane cylinders. walmart usually has em an sale 2 for $4. I take one of those and tape a piece of 1 inch thick steel plate to it. then shoot it with API. that thick plate lights the api up and lights the propane. makes for about a 7-8ft dia fireball. add a garbage bag of stoich mixed oxy/acetaline over the propane tank and you have some seriouse hardkore american freedom going on. hahahaha.

Wow that does sound fun.

I'll tell him about that. We were mainly blasting gallon water jugs for cheap easy reactive targets. Funniest thing I ever shot with it was this huge pumpkin that I cut a small hole in the top and filled with water. That thing made the prettiest 25 foot orange halo I ever saw..lol. Got that on video, it was awesome.
Speaking of shooting steel with it, here are some pics of a bullet he managed to stop with a chunk of steel.
The clean pass through was a miss on the first plate (he had them stacked). It landed safely in the backstop.
The one that hit lower pierced the first plate and stuck in the second. Pretty awesome firepower.

I have the Barrett 82A1. My wife got it for my birthday this year..... It was a complete surprise, although I had dreamed of owning one for over 3 years. We went to the gun shop to get some ammo. As we were leaving she went back in to see if she could "use their bathroom" and came back out with 2 guys carrying large boxes... The gun store guys were as wide eyed as I was when I opened the case..
It was a good deal CDNN had a package that included the Barrett 82A1, Swarovski 10X Scope, cleaning kit, hearing protection, 80 rounds of ammo and a HK calender for $8500 delivered.. Also came with a coupon to get another 10rd mag from Barrett for free..

I only see him when we get together for the big shoots and he always has a different new toy to bring. The barrel on that AK one is about 4 to 5 feet long and around 2 inches diameter, from what I remember, with a big tank brake on it. The tripod is also huge so he doesn't take it out too much. It's got a removable stock and a PG with a big scope on it. The breech unscrews from the rear for each shot. I'll bug him some more and see if he will send me some pics.
