UTG has released a lever-lock sight rail that works similar to the Dragunov sight mount. You simply slide it on, move the lever to the locked position, and you're good to go. It provides top and left side Picatinny rails. I purchased one for my Saiga .223. I have experience with the Dragunov system on my Romanian PSL, and the possibility of having a removable rail for the Saiga was too good to pass up. It arrived today, and after a bit of adjustment it locks on tightly just like my PSL. I am VERY pleased. It's rock-solid while mounted, but comes off in seconds. I stuck my BSA 30mm red dot on it to see how it sights, and discovered that it sights very naturally and is very comfortable to use. It also centers the sight, rather than being an offset (great for lefties like me). Really, this system is a winner.

In my experience the zero is retained to within 1 MOA, which is OK for most purposes.

Which is why I wanted it. Given how AK's field strip, you need a sight rail that doesn't have to be completely re-zeroed every time and can easily remove to get out of the way. This fits the bill.

Just FYI, you can field strip and clean a Saiga .223 or 7.62X39 with one of the UTG QD mounts in place. That is what I always do. It takes some care, but it can be done. Even though the mounts hold zero well, I prefer to eliminate any source of error that I can, so I leave the mount on. I have the QD mount on primarily so I can quickly access the iron sights in the event that the optical sight is rendered unusable.

I have the UTG 973 model (screw on) on my Saiga-12 with a Bushnell Trophy red/green dot scope. I removed the scope from the mount and the mount from the gun and when I reassembled it, I went to the range and it was dead on to how I had it set (zeroed at 15 yrds).

That depends largely on the magnification of your scope. If your red / green dot has no magnification and is no-parallax, yeah, you'll have to royally screw it up to significantly affect your zero simply because of how that sight works. If you have even 2x magnification, you're going to have to re-zero.
