ORLANDO, Fla. -- Flood victims of Tropical Storm Fay were warned about rivers of raw sewage possibly flowing through some Florida neighborhoods.

The state's surgeon general, Ana Viamonte Ros, notified Floridians Thursday about fecal matter danger created by the stalled weather system.
"We just wanted to reiterate again the importance of making sure children do not play in flooded areas," Viamonte Ros said. "We have had reports of raw sewage in some of these flooded plains. Please make sure children (stay out) because there could be downed powered lines (and) there is sewage."
Septic tanks flowed over in a subdivision in Merritt Island and leaked into streets near the Colony Park subdivision.
Several adults and parents were videotaped swimming in the streets during a Local 6 report.
It's like swimming in a toilet and it's very dangerous, Local 6's Jessica D'Onofrio reported.
Officials warned that within the sewage water is harmful bacteria and viruses that pose threats.
State officials warned about West Nile virus and other mosquito-borne illness in connection with Fay floodwaters.
The Department of Health recommends you avoid the outdoors during dusk and dawn, wear clothing that covers skin and to use Deet as a repellant.
"Remember as well there are potentially dangerous wild animals that will seek higher ground so beware of those as well," Ros said.
"Most deaths that occur in storms are because of flooding," Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp said Thursday.
The reference is to water moccasins, other snakes and alligators, Local 6's Steven Cooper reported.
The Department of Health said residents should not wade through standing water. If residents must wade through floodwater, they are urged to bath and put on clean clothes afterward.

I will keep our FL members in my prayers. After N.O. I have had a belly full of those conditions. But, I called them tonight and told them if we were sending people, I would go.

I admit that are some things that we are pretty damn selfish about, like having water to drink. Sorry if our selfish desire spoils your profit.

well, its still raining here off and on today in central FL.
the aquapher (? aquaphor aqua something) or WATER TABLE as us stupid yankees call it, was starting to dry up around here, mainly due to the rich developments pumping it and the lakes dry to water their lawns.
I think its safe to say that that wont be an issue for a little while at this point.
On another plus note, the lakes are up about 14" or so. Me and pop might actually be able to get the boat in the water! go figure.
On a down note, I got to work in this crap thursday and friday. But that is also a plus note, because now I can pay all my bills, and my rent, and all of that fine stuff.
I am going to start bringing the digital camera with me to work. You guys are missing out on some real crapmanship that Ive been coming across down here, and usually having to fix. Why anyone would want to paint a straight line, not get overspray all over everything, use actual bleach when powerwashing a house, build ANYTHING straight, pour concrete FLAT and correctly GRADED, or even use nails bigger than one inch long to build roof trusses is beyond me.
I cant wait for a real hurricane to blow through my area. Im going to have loads of work. None of the new construction is going to hold up. Someone has already stolen the sign off my truck, and our cards go missing without calls where we leave them. Maybe if people didnt rip these folks off and on top of that, did quality work, its a possibility they wouldnt be losing a lot of their work to me and my pop, the YANKEES.
I will also note that it is fairly easy to recover stolen tools down here. Bang a 4 foot crowbar on the dumpster for the apartments thats out front, and loudly inform the person (and the entire complex) that took the tool, that you will be screwing the doors and windows shut on the building, and re-enacting sherman's march to the sea, like a nice yankee, if the tool does not magically reappear on your tailgate when you go back inside. Apparantly the meth and crack heads down here know a little bit about history, or at least the drug dealers do, at any rate.

Just glad it missed us, it looked like we were going to catch it as a hurricane there for a while. As soon as I got all stocked up, it decided to ignore us completely...
