In my experience, There is no difference between a Form 4 and Form 1. That being said the overall time for your approved form to arrive in your mailbox varies signficantly. My shortest approval time (from the time I mailed it to the time I received an approved form) is 22 days. My longest time... 102 days. Technically trusts and LLCs should be quicker than individual transfers because no background checks are done... but the 22 day transaction was to me personally... so they can get it done quickly if their workload is light.
For the past couple years, my expectation has been six to eight weeks from the time the check was cashed. The NFA branch has been fairly consistent with that recently. The last one I received was in early July 2008; total turnaround time was 74 days for a Form 1.
I'm sure your SOT can give you a much better expectation regarding Form 4 - mainly because they would have the same examiner each time. So their examiner shoudl be pretty consistent unless there is something that is out of the norm with your paperwork/transfer.

The approval for my 9mm and .223 cans took about 7 months, but I think the guy at the gun store dicked me over about sending them in when he said he did. The paperwork on my .308 can has now been gone 2 1/2 months.
