First off I know a lot of you guys use plugs but a lot of the time indoors that just does not cut it.

I need to replace my shagged out earmuffs and found out that there is whole lot of options out there... anyone have a recommendation for something that can take a beating and does not get in the way?

Peltor Tactical 6S's they are very low profile and fairly affordable as well.

Now a quick plug (no pun intended) for the Surefire EP3s. They are VERY comfy and you can pull the plugs to get some noise attenuation while still getting Sound suppression.

I shot on a small bore team for a long time and I could never wear muffs for competition or training because they interfered with my cheek weld. And now looking back I think that just about everyone wore plugs.

Nowadays while I am 'just' shooting I reach for the $5 bargain bin special that has lasted a few years now. The ones that IPSC GUY mentioned look pretty good though.

Yeah I agree plugs are the way to go - its just when shooting large rifles or SBR's indoors you can feel your ears taking a big hit.

Just curious to what muffs did not get it the way with tac style shoots.

Yep, Peltor 6S electronic muffs for me. I flipped the ear muffs on mine upside down as it gives better clearance for rifle use and works just the same in function. They are great for everything outdoors except for watching the guys with Miculek brakes on AR's.

Indoors, I always use a pair of rubber plugs underneath and that is more than enough protection for pistol and rifle use.

+1 on the Peltors as for plugs i have used Norton sonic II for a Very long time but the next time i run into the custom cast ear plug guy i am gonna get a set as for shooting under cover try a 50 BMG Plugs AND Muffs plus keep your mouth shut (i am not kidding one bit the over pressure will reach the middle ear if your mouth is open)

I bought myself a set of Howard Leights recently. This was my first set of electronic-augmented hearing protectors, and I read tons of reviews before settling on this pair, and people said they perform as good or better than sets that cost $200+. They cost me $70, and I'm very happy with them. They're a lot more comfortable than the $5 headcans I'd been using, and work a lot better. Being able to hear normal conversation is a huge bonus, too. They're extremely good quality. For the price, I'm happy with them.

Dual ends (one side for indoor shooting and the other for outdoor shooting) with different levels of Db moderation. Very soft silicone rubber so they stay comfortable for hours.
