I am wondering what everyone thinks are the best sights for shooting skeet/trap, and why?

Irons or optics.

I will also be hunting pig and deer too.

Ask a trap shooter, they will tell you ONE LONG RIB with one or two dots on it... ( mid dot and end dot)

Ask a hunter, he will tell you whatever you can hit a moving target with...

I would really steer clear of "optics" for trap and skeet... but thats my personal opinion... hard to get on the moving target with them... a red dot will obscure the bird in trap, and while you might hit it with a red dot, I am willing to bet you would do better with iron sights...

Although I have shot perfect trap scores with the short "rifle" style sights on my S-20... The other trap shooters cannot even begin to comprehend *HOW* I am able to do this...

Optics for hunting... thats fine... pick whatever you want...

NOW...

Thats all clear as mud, isnt it?!?!? 032.gif

Personally, I was only paying attention to your avatar anyway. rolleyes.gif

well I was thinking about putting the HK sights on, or maybe getting a krinkov top cover and trying to fit it on the saiga somehow. or just a regular barrel mounted AK type sight setup. can't decide. maybe I will just shoot it how it comes for a while first.

I like the 1 long rib idea. Can you provide me an example of something you would consider a top end sight? Is there anything like that that will bolt on to a Saiga? I'm looking to get some sights as I'll probably use it mostly to shoot trap as a toy. I would also like to be somewhat accurate shooting slugs, though. Maybe up to 50 yards as anything longer I would use something else anyway. (not hijacking, just enhancing)

do you guys think that ultimak rail would make a good rear sight along with an AK type front sight?

I shoot trap with a lot of different shotties. Most of them only have a rib and a pin in front.
I had a hard time with the front and rear sights on my Saigas so I ended up taking out the rear sight and just using the pin.So far, thats working excellent for me.
As for optics, you wouldnt be able to get a good bead on the bird to make it worthwhile.
SaigaNoobie
Kreb's Ghost Rings!

Think of it like using the front sight (bead) and looking through the rear ring (Down the rail).

I OWN clays with Ghost rings.

I shoot trap regularly with a Barska red dot (one of the big ones) on a tower with 2 eyes open. All you really see is the dot.

For skeet and sporting clays the dot is too hard to use on the follow up shot. For these games you will be better off with the irons.

The Saiga is great fun at clay games but for many reasons not the best choice.

As to hunting I would have to defer to someone who hunts as I do not.
Gas Giant
That's what I have, but I haven't tried clays yet,

let me know if you want a pic, or look in the saiga 12 photo section,

Krebs custom Tall Front with double hooded croshair, AK style,.. and a krebs Ghost ring in the Ultimak rail
