So, Russia is tryin to flaunt its power once again, no biggie, but its now chilling with its new ally of Venezuela which has partaken once more a anti US view and claiming to "capture" US officers in a plot to kill their president, at the same time a unidentified sub was spotted around the waters of Japan. So, any of this mean anything to you or just a bunch of bs? I think we're headed to another game of chicken, but our defenses i believe are lacking, what do you guys think?

First off I think Chavez is a fukn loon. 2nd is Russia would have major reorginizing to really pose a threat. I'm worried more about Russias Nukies getting in the wrong hands. If Bill Clinton had his way the military would cease to exist and the only guns around would be in museums.

It's a response to our arming and training the Georgians. They're trying to see how we like it when someone else brings their toys to our neck of the woods.

And as to the original question "How secure are we?"

Well, if we can't stop dirt poor Mexican peasants from walking past our borders and into our cities what hope do we have of maintaining REAL security?

As long as we have the nukes other countries will know they will only be able to push us so far. True, we can be pushed a lot farther than in previous generations, but still we will have a snapping point somewhere.

Interesting. Consider the following -
The following is a list of how many people were killed on Dec. 7, 1941 as a result of the Japanese attack upon Pearl Harbor.

US Navy 2,008 KIA
USMC 109 KIA
US Army 218 KIA
Civilians 68
Total 2,403

and this was met with a speech about an unprovoked and dastardly attack that will live as a day of infamy followed by a "United" States of America going into full blown war.

Compare this to our response to 9/11 where more people were killed and the total was comprised ENTIRELY of civilians, not just 68. How far do you suppose that our current "UnUnited" States of America can be pushed? I don't have an answer but I do know that this is not the US that I grew up in.

+1 They see it kinda like we would if Russia was arming and training Cuba.

Which they are and have been doing. For about 45 yrs now...

Russia's real problems is China, we are just the third side of their triangulation technique of diplomacy. Im more worried about our government than Russia's.

Cuba's been Communist for some time though. Since the Iron Curtain's gone down we started meddling buying foreign relations with their satellite countries. Which is to say we started selling them our weapons and offered our experts to train their military (which incidentally we said would NOT happen). And with the Soviets (and the Warsaw Pact) gone, why exactly is NATO still around? What if Russia started a new pact with Cuba, Venezuela, and whoever else from central or south America?

Don't get me wrong guys, I have no particular love for the Russians (except for their hot Slavic women) but I'm not buying what the bought for politicians are selling. Both McCain and Biden have ties to lobbyists for the Georgian government. It's funny how one candidate says that "We are all Georgians now" (McCain) while the other one pledges a billion dollars to help rebuild their infrastructure (Biden). Incidentally, is Biden going to cough up that money himself? Nope. He'll use our money. Awesome. I know "ties" doesn't really mean that they've been influenced monetarily...but if it walks like a duck and quacks likes a duck....

Look, if Georgia becomes part of NATO what happens when they pull another dumbass move like they did during the Beijing Olympics? We go to war with a nuclear power for a pissant government that had enough money to buy into our political system?

Hey, I have a great idea! How about we take care of America and Americans first?

Seal our borders, arm every able bodied and willing person, and then let's see who wants to attack us. My guess would be NO ONE.
