Hi Everyone! I've been coming to this forum for a while and reading up on all the valuable information you all provide. I finally got a Saiga 12. I paid $700.. Bought it from Gilbert's Guns.. the shipping and the transfer fee from a dealer brought it up to $100 more.. I live in Hawaii so things are going to be a little more expensive.

But yeah, I've wanted a Saiga 12 every since I came across it on the internet back when EAA first started importing them.. unfortunately they've been pretty rare and hard to come by as you all know.

When I went to the police station to register my Saiga 12, the clerk told me that ETAC had them.. OOPS! I might have saved some $$ but thats ok.. the main thing is that I finally have one after years of looking for one. Yes, here in Hawaii you have 5 days to take the firearm to the police station to register it.. I hear stores in some states handle all the paperwork at the store!

And I want to do the conversion on my own.. I'm fairly handy with drills, rasps, and what not.. The only new hole I have to make is for the pistol grip nut right? well aside from the extra hole or holes I need to mount the trigger guard. I'm getting a bulgarian trigger guard from Addax Tactical. Shipping was much more reasonable from them compared to K-var.. $6.95 vs $22.43 for a part that only costs around $12.. Ive read on someone else's post here about his conversion using a bulgarian trigger guard. Will go find that and study it again =)

For the pistol grip nut hole, would it be ok to use an AK receiver flat as a template? The trigger hole in relation the the pistol grip nut should be the same for all stamped AK's right?

And for those of you who have already converted their own, what are some options for the safety selector stop? Looking for the easiest option for now..
I could put in a rivet like what most Bulgarian AK's use, but that doesn't look too solid.. Or I can reuse part of the trigger plate...

Well that's all for now.. Nice to finally have my Saiga!!

Welcome to the forum. Wow, 2 posts and you're already a contributor. Awesome!

Yes, the flat can be used to locate the PG nut hole from the trigger hole.

I just reuse the original safety stop plate, cutting off the excess right where it bulges down. I attach it right under the front end of the trigger guard. You canuse the same rivet or screw, or weld.

Welcome 808hunter, as you already know, you are in the right place!
Congrats on the new family member. Yep, E-Tac might have been able to save you some but hey! You scored!
Maybe he could hook you up with a selector stop. You can order them from the web but like you said, shipping makes it a lot more expensive, especially where you are I bet. I made my own out of a steel angle bracket. Check out my tutorial pinned in the conversion section. There are good pics of it there.

Congrats! You sound thrilled. It's a great gun, you'll be even happier after you take it to the range!

AND I have a 2nd one reserved for whenever my dealer friend gets them in.. That one I'm gonna use the Tromix DIY kit on for sure! I want one conversion with a traditional AK trigger guard and another conversion thats all tricked out with that cool almost HK looking trigger guard XD ...

Yeah, I could have waited for him too.. But since I found one I had to jump on the opportunity! Maybe I'll get my second one cheaper through my dealer.. if not, I still have a 2nd one (slowly) on its way.. been waiting on him for a couple years already.

Heh, my dad asked me, so why would you want a Saiga 12? It's an assault shotgun.. I tell him, because I have a penis... We laughed for quite a while.. typical sport shooter.. but there's nothing wrong with that =)

Hmm maybe I should use that bit about my father and I as my signature..

I sure will! I'm getting all the parts I need right now! Just gotta find the right shipping prices for a few more parts.. But I'm almost there! Right now I've field stripped it and removed the stock. Just gotta remove the trigger guard and trigger plate then remove the internals.. should be fun!
