For those wondering, Guido2 lives in Houston and has not had power since Saturday morning at about 3am. He and his bride & kids are fine but they are considering the cold front a blessing. Cell phone service is very intermitent even today and they had none until yesterday. No internet, no electricity. They have a generator but there is no TV, so the only thing they know about what is happening is via radio. It is a shame that he can't be here for all the MD-20 drum excitement. I just thought a few of you might be interested.

Thanks for the heads up. Hope all is well with him. Does he have any idea when the power may be back on?

Spoke to Mrs. Guido2 today and one of their son's lives in (I think she said Pearland) a suburb of Houston and they had power back on Saturday night but poor Mr. & Mrs. Guido2 still don't have power 5 days later. It may take a few weeks to get the power back up for the area. I know when we were hit with hail, tornadoes & stuff here in Dallas a few years ago they had to bring in power line workers from other states to get us rolling again. One neighborhood would have power and the next wouldn't. Kind of a roll of the dice as to when your number comes up for being fixed.

I live in SE Houston.
Power went out Friday night around 1930 here.
Phone company came out this morning and got the phone going, power came back up a couple hours ago.
Lost some shingles on the house, lost some walls on the shed, could have been worse, but the trees fell in the other direction.
This cool front was indeed a blessing.

Yes, I hope all is well with everyone living in the area. I heard on the news that Progress Energy sent some people down that way to help. Hopefully it will help move things along with assistance from other areas.

Nalioth!
Good to hear from you and that you are fine except for a few shingles (the missing walls don't sound so hot) and that you have electricity again. Everyone in your family doing OK? Any news we should know about? Hopefully there are no looters, I know there won't be in Guido2's neighborhod.

Hope all is coming back together for everyone. I have a friend in Sugarland that I haven't been able to reach as well.

I suspect looting won't be a problem in the outer areas of the metro.
The folks that elected Sheila Jackson Lee to her position are the ones who'd need to be worried about that, if you know what I mean. . . .
Seems folks (besides F[umble]EMA) have organized and gotten food and water to where it's needed (not everyone got off as easily as I did), and with the cool weather, there really isn't much to complain about.
Patience is the way, here.

not quite as much Looting than with Katrina- but the same level of idiocy. I had to run off a cluster of them from a shoe store on my post saturday. One had a crowbar so I racked my shotgun.
They went from scattering to scampering while dropping their shoes lol.

not to bitch or hijack the thread....but it was odd just "watching" hurricane coverage. i live in N Fla close to the coast below Tally, and im used to watching hurricanes come in this general direction.
ike gave us alot of water b/c we were on the NE side....
hope every1 is safe. if not, always have 1 in the chamber.

Hello, my good bud's
Finally able to post again via my cell phone G3 connection. I could previously read a few messages, but would get disconnected every couple of minutes so posting was pointless.
Can't say how much y'alls concern means.....I mean, for a bunch of "bitter pricks clinging to your guns and Bibles" you sure have your hearts in the right place!
We made it through with minimal damage. Lost a 25 year old Oak tree uprooted in the front yard, just minor gutter damage to the house from that. Replaced about 250' of back yard fence early last summer, the remaining 200' showed panels blown over, no biggie.
Still without power, cable internet, Dish TV. Generator is hummin' away, got it locked down with a fat hardened chain and lock around an Oak tree in the back yard along with a laminated sign that reads:
"DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE CASTLE DOCTRINE?'
"I DO!"
Still no one desperate or monolingual enough to give it a try.......<sigh>....
The SHTF state of mind comes in pretty handy when rather than stand in lines to get essentials doled out and risk getting shanked by some third-worlder thug in the process one can just saunter out to the stash and get gas cans, water bottles, canned food, etc.
First couple of nights the generators were running all night long, mariachi music and keg parties everywhere.
They have become strangely silent now, since there is no gas and those morons eventually realized they were not going to be given any. Kinda sucks when you drain your truck tank to run your generator, then you can't make the run all over town searching for that elusive gas station that has both power and gas to replenish your supplies. Kind of like painting ones' self into a corner....
This is a time when possessing a CHL really pays dividends. People are liable to do just about anything when they start getting desperate.
The general word among LEO's is pretty much "zero-tolerance" as well. Already been one knife-wielding Hispanic at a gas station shot down by Police. I applaud 'em for that!
Thanks again for the concern and for the offers of assistance. True friends reach down to help you up. Y'all rock!

Good to hear from you brother and glad to know that your foresight & preparations paid dividends! Dang, Guido2 you thought this one through, didn't you. I have a water purifier but I like the saunter idea, so I guess I'll get a few extra bottled waters.
Stay Well,

Hello, Juggs
They're doin' fine. Greta, the (now) Alpha bitch, is always well behaved, Sammy, my chronic JD (Juvenile Delinquent) bitch goes into a strange mode during crisis. She becomes the perfect dog! Absolutely attentive, never pushing her limits, etc.
Strange how doggers pick up on stuff like that. I think they sense their people's anxiety or whatever and it puts them into a different state.
-Sammy and I were on "looter patrol" during Katrina/Rita when everybody else had evacuated the neighborhood, and she was the same then. I didn't have her leashed, but she heeled perfectly, would rise up and get a "mohawk" down her back when strange people or critters were in her range....She was ready for battle!
We scared off a few would-be looters during that "hurricane". Should'a bagged a few........
The best, my friend.....
