This is a stupid question,how many layers of kevlar are supposed to be in a class 3a vest? Can ya give me an estimated number/thickness?

Me and my Buddy hit up the gunshow over the weekend and he got a vest from this Milsurp booth for like 40$ We pulled it apart to see what the stuff inside was.I was a little sceptical about it's authenticity. There is a panel of what I believe is kevlar,don't know for sure.It's fabric,it's stiff,and it's gold/yellow in color.The guy at the show said it was 3a It's like 4 or 5 layers,just seemed a little thin to stop a .44.I say he got scammed,He thinks he got a great deal!

The milsurp stuff is a flak jacket not a bullet proof vest. It won't stop any bullet but is designed to protect soldiers from shrapnel. Five layers can not do more than that.
