MCASgt New River
Indoor range test conducted at Sportsman Lodge located at 3521 New Bern Highway Jacksonville, NC 28546-4205, (910) 937-6334. With new management in place a lot of upgrades have been done and over all the facility appears nicer, cleaner and safer. This range is equipped to handle pistol caliber weapons only and is NFA friendly.

Host weapon is a new, never fired Walter P22 with a 3.5" barrel. The Tactical Innovations QUEST .22lr suppressor is the suppressor in review which is constructed entirely of CNC'd machined stainless steel and can be taken apart for self cleaning when warranted.

Additional info is provided at the link below.
Tactical Innovations Quest Suppressor.

The ammunitions tested are as follows and a brief summary associated with each.

Remington “Golden Bullet” (550 Bonus Pack) – this ammunition was purchased through Walmart without any problems at approximately $13 dollars plus tax per 550 round box. The rounds appear to be golden in color not copper washed. This is standard velocity .22LR ammunition.

During the course of fire, approx 200 rounds, I had between 7-10 duds of which I reinserted the cartridge; rotating 90 degrees; and fired an additional 3 rounds. This ammunition had the most blow-back of all compared to the other ammunition tested. This ammunition also provide the worst accuracy in terms of POI shift being 3-5” to the low, right at 20 feet.

This ammunition was not any louder or quieter; to the ear in doors, then the others listed here.

Remington Subsonic – this ammunition was also purchased through Walmart without any problems at approximately $31 dollars plus tax per 500 round brick. The bullet is wax coated lead and not copper washed as others are.

During the course of fire, approx 200 rounds, I had zero duds or hang fires. This ammunition had no noticeable blow-back compared to the others and provided the best accuracy in terms of POI shift being 1-2”. This POI could have easily been my shooter induced.

Audible difference in Remington Subsonic tested ammunition was negligible to nil, all the while costing more then two times the bulk pack prices.

Federal (550 Value Pack) – this ammunition was purchased through Walmart without any problems at approximately $13 dollars plus tax per 550 round box. The rounds appear to be copper washed. This is standard velocity .22LR ammunition.

During the course of fire, approx 200 rounds, I had between 1-2 duds of which I reinserted the cartridge; rotating 90 degrees; and fired an additional 1-2 rounds. This ammunition had the second least amount of blow-back compared to the Remington “Value Pack” ammunition during the course of fire. This ammunition also provided the Second best accuracy in terms of POI shift being 2-3” to the low, right at 20 feet. This POI could have easily been my shooter induced.

This ammunition was not any louder or quieter then the others listed above.

IN SUMMARY I'D BE LIKELY TO BUY THE FEDERAL AMMUNITION AT LESS THEN HALF THE PRICE AND DEAL WITH THE MINIMAL POI SHIFT AND OCCATIONAL BLOW-BACK.

Federal Bulk Pack ammo (both blue and red box loadings) is high-velocity, and supersonic. I am pretty sure that Golden Bullets are too.

Saying that, neither will go supersonic in a pistol length barrel and often are required to cycle the slide of a semi auto pistol anyway. They are the right choice for a pistol. Out of a rifle, they will be loud out of your silencer.

All were hi-velocity except for the ones advertised Remington Subsonics. As you stated they stayed subsonic due to the 3.5" barrel length though. I'm looking for a CZ bolt action rifle with a threaded barrel as I'm wanting to see the differance and well.....I don't have one yet.
