I checked this thread out the second I posted this new topic.
I guess that answers that question. Never mind, guys.
I think that you can go 2 ways with this. Surefire has a mount that is on sale at Mississippi Auto arms for $29.99 (on sale). I like it because it will fit on top of your cover like a traditional rifle and its very solid. It mounts where your rear sight is mounted and on the screw on top of your butt stock. Or you can order a Kalinka low profile side mount for $49.99 and mount it on your side rail. The normal high profile side mounts have been very awkward for me just as mounting a scope on an A2 receiver AR-15. Get a decent brand name compact scope like a burris, nikon, barska, or bsa etc. I'm personally putting on a red dot setup on my SGL-10 Saiga. I've just ordered the Surefire mount from MAA because its cheaper than the Kalinka. I do think the Kalinka is the best set up because you can use your iron sights. Plus you can take it on and off whenever you like. I don't plan on removing my optics so the Surefire will do for me.

Good info, nitrous, thank you!
I think I may just stick with my iron sights though. My first time at the range I was able to hit a man-sized target at 100 yards with factory iron, so I figure with some practice I should be in great shape. I'll save the money for a Loaded M1A.
Although if the global banking system fails I may have to use the money for kindling.

Stay away from dust cover mounts for optics.
They're not sturdy enough to play the physics game with the weight of optics (irons don't weigh much and work fine on dust covers).
You'd be re-zeroing each time you pulled the dust cover, as well.
