I decided to make a trip out to range early on Sunday moring to beat the snow and rain mix we were due to have by the afternoon. I live in western PA and the first Monday after Thanksgiving is the opening of gun season for deer. Usually the range is crowded with people doing their last minute sight in. Sure enough when I arrived all the benches were occupied, but the 10 yard side of the range was all open. I was setting my things down on the table at the short side of the range when I heard "CLEAR" being yelled by everyone. I yelled clear and and people looked up and down the range to see if everyone was clear and to prepare to go down range. People then began to walk down range and were no further then a couple of feet from the line when a shot went off. After that, everyone yelled at the guy who was still handeling is firearm after the line was cleared. I've rarely seen any safety problems at the range before.

On another time, I was at another range several years ago and watched a man who walked from behind the 100 yard target area and down the side of the range while people were shooting! Everyone yelled to stop shooting. The guy was acting really goofy and said that he liked guns and knew there was a range in the area but couldnt remember how to get there. He said he wanted to watch people shoot guns and that he drove around untill he heard shooting, pulled his car to the side of the road and walked through the woods towards the sounds of gunfire untill he found the range! I left right after that. The strangest part is that the range is really far out in the country and there arent any other roads around. There is only one road that leads up to the range from the highway. I didnt see any cars on the side of the road when I drove out of there. He must have been walking for miles..!?!

Anyone else have strange stories from the range they care to share??

No stories that good! Just the usual muzzle-sweeping, AD's, and general lack of knowledge type issues.

Being from Pennsyltucky..I've been around for a few.

We were shooting down at camp, I'm up on the line dumping a 40rd stick outta my converted x39 and this guy carrying a bow starts walking into my field of view on my left hand side.....he yelled at me after I dropped the gun and yelled at him in some rather profane words on what was he thinking walking into a range where you can hear a volume of fire like that. Best part....he came up the road behind us...so he had to walk right past myself, 2 portable tables of guns and a pickup truck.

I waited bout a half out hour till he got up in the woods and set a tannerite off.

well, i got a scar on my right knee from some asshole who "borrowed" a friend's shotgun and of course decides to stand next to me and shoot, well he thought he had shot all the rounds but one was left, so he was fucking around with it and had the barrel pointed down and kinda towards me and BANG, next thing i knew i was holding my gun looking at my right knee with blood oozing down my leg....fucking ricochet hit me. The range officer RAN over to quickly toss the guy out before i could remember what i was holding in my hands. Well, as it would turn out the range officers looked over the guy's name and paperwork and it was all a fake according to local LE which was later called out. I wondered why they made him leave before LE got there or if the range called for LE too late...ever since then i prefer a one lane buffer or stand kinda away from the people i don't know, I still finished my time at the range, my knee is fine other then a little blood from some crappy cheap shot....Everything else i've encountered at the range(s) have been simiular, i wasn't around for the guy in tampa a couple of years ago committing suicide at the range, i bet that musta been a strange day for everyone.

Had the firing pin on a rommy SKS stick and go full auto at the range. It jumped right off the bench and put 2 downrange from the dirt. Actually saw people checking themselves to make sure they were not shot. Scared the living shit out of me as I was really concentrating on the shot when it happened. Now my shooter SKSs have the Murray's pins in them. For those of you who have wondered, SKSs do not handle full auto well.

Saw a guy shooting a Desert Eagle 44 mag at an indoor range. Bullet richochet off the target frame and hit him in the neck. lots of blood, he thought he was dying, but bullet only broke the skin and fell to the ground. EMT cleaned it on put a bandage on it. The guy was even praying to the lord as he sat on the ground in the range.

Guess I need to get to the range more often, because this shit is funny (although a little scary too).

I've yet to encounter anything like some of these stories. laugh.gif
