the pistol association stopped the last few 3gun in a 300 mile radius of where i live because of noise and proximity to large population areas, so cant help ya. im sure the police ranges in the area have something, but its sort of a "members only" thing im sure.

Georgia State 3 Gun IPSC Match - link to the forum Calendar!

November 20, 2005 - Georgia State 3 Gun IPSC Match will be held in South River Gun Club (near Atlanta, GA)

South River Gun Club is simply the bestgun club in Georgia - the friendliest group of people that I have ever seen in the gun club!!!
(This is the place where your buddy Makc learned how to shoot Skeet, Trap, and Sporting Clay!)

If you live in Georgia, (or one of the Border States) you absolutely must visit this club - You will not be disappointed!

I'm gonna have to take this opportunity to vent...disregard if you don't want to hear me bitch.

It pisses me off that males can't use 20ga in these competitions. The 20ga is to a 12ga as a 9mm is to a .45ACP. Why the hell can people use a 9mm pistol and I can't use a 20ga?

The 20ga is TACTICALLY the better gun and shouldn't be banned. A 20ga will be lighter to carry an equivalent round count and it has a lower recoil allowing for faster follow up shots, yet it still won't give an unfair advantage to anyone using it b/c it takes more shooting skills to use. There's not the same amount of lead in each round, so there's a lower chance of breaking clays or taking down steel plates so the shots have to be more precise and the choke tube selected more appropriately.

So if males can use a pussy gun like a 9mm why can't I use my S20?

For that matter, how come 32 round glock mags are allowed yet shotguns are often capped at 8 or 10rounds? That's bullshit! If someone wants to buy a shitty little tube fed gun that only holds 8 that's their deal, but I should be allowed to use my high cap shotgun mags if they can use their high cap pistol mag. I started with an H&K .45USPc that would only hold 8rnds, yet I didn't try to impose a ban on the high-cap pistols nor the low recoiling 9mm even though they won't let me use my shotgun or high cap magazines.

I can kind of understand not using the green-tipped 5.56 rounds, but using an M4 it's my impression that tactically one should use a 62gr or higher bullet for increased stopping power out of a shorter barrel (lower velocity) and to increase the bullet's stability out of a higher twist rate barrel. The most available bullet for this application is surplus military green tipped steel core. Sux that I can't use the bullet best matched for my gun.

So let's see: I can't use my rifle ammo; they won't let me use my preferred shotgun; they won't let me use my shotguns to their full advantage (over 8-10 rounds per mag); and I don't have 32rnd pistol capacity b/c I want a bullet with consistant stopping power.

So I won't be seeing anyone at this years CTI.

Rant off

I'm just bitter I can't go and don't have the equipment they deam appropriate.

Maybe next year...

Aegis,
I agree you have some valid points as to the arbitrary nature of some of these match rules. One year the Recon had total mag retention. That means you could not drop an empty mag on the ground without the R.O. confiscating it and you would not get it back until the end of the day. One 3-Gun match allowed extended capacity mags for the pistols and rifles like the Beta mags and a squad member (Mick P.) did the house clearing stage on one 33 rnd. Glock mag.
I'm not saying it right or wrong due to the fact it's their game so they can call the rules. Not beating on USPSA, but check out the rules for one of those 3-gun matches and you see why I prefer "outlaw" 3-Gun matches. Plus, EVERYONE gets a chance at the prize table at least once at the CTI and the Recon. USPSA and IPSC you get a t-shirt.

I know...i just want to shoot in it. I'm bitter that:
1) i can't easily afford the entry fee
2) i can't afford to swap all my equipment to what's required.

I'm a sulky guy that really wants to shoot more often than I do and the CTI looks AWESOME! You had best believe that as soon as my 12ga is converted I'll be there ready to rock out, but that won't be until next year. This year I'll sit in my room and pout but I will say:

GO TEAM SAIGA!!!!

027.gif

And I'll get the 20ga out to the NCRR match since they'll let me use it and high cap magazines. MWHAHAHAHA

PS-Anyone else gonna make July's NCRR match?

I would like to make a strong showing at next years CTI shotgun match, I went this year and was disapointed in my shooting. I could make excuses but why bother I had a very bad day. Next year I'd really like to see TEAM SAIGA Kick butt. You can bet that Eric and I will be there with an ample supply of Kevin's 10 round magazines.

This is an 8 stage tacitcal match held in Oxford North Carolina you shoot buckshot, slugs and a ton of bird shot. There are flying and stationary clay targets, steel targets, and poppers, you need to know where your gun is hitting at 75 to 100 yards. There is a select a slug stage.

The way I figure it with the advantage of a good nights sleep, Kevin's magazines, Jerik's bolt stop, and the skills of TEAM SAIGA we can domante the match. The level of competition is very high the flint lock shooters are amazing. Still we have the superior shotgun and we can rule!

Robb,
I agree with you about 20 guage shotguns. I think you should be able to use a 410 if you think you can accoplish the stage.

The way I see it in a tactical match anything "tactical" goes. That way the superior weapon shines. If 20 is more practical than 12 the go for it. But I don't wright the rules (yet) rember this is a game not for keeps so we have to bend to game machanics and match practialites like setting up. I would like to see a load from cover rule of course when setting up the match we would have to provide cover that would take way too much set up time.

I believe TEAM SAIGA is in action this weekend in Oxford at the CTI 3 gun match, Good Luck TEAM SAIGA!

Eric and I are considering going to the Recon Match Anyone else wanting to shoot that one! I'm trying to set up a Car Pool from Norfolk Va.
