[Slugs and accuracy]

I was working as a range officer at my club this last week. It was a busy day with open deer rifle sight in.

 

Got to see a 12 ga. with a Kobra sight for the first time. The guy was able to keep his slugs pretty tight and better than he expected--a happy man.

[How Accurate?]

Yesterday, I took three rifles to the range.

Saiga 7.62x39--Kobra sight--Barnual HP

 

FAL Imbel kit with new Brazilian barrel

 

 

The AR with good ammo shoots very,very tight groups. Not with Greek ammo though.

 

The Saiga with the Kobra @ 100 yrds. is a great buy. The Kobra almost equals the Saiga in price. I see the fellows at the range spraying targets with their AK's or SKS's. The Saiga with the Kobra is a step up believe me; at least with Barnual ammo.

 

There are those who knock the FAL now in favor of the CETME or HK G3. They won't beat a FAL with a good barrel by much, if at all.

[Competion Shooting]

Have any of you who are regular club clay shooters compared your Siaga scores with what you can do with your 28" or 30" barrels?

 

What do the regular clay shooters say when they see it?

 

The guys who hang out on The Shotgun Sports Resource Guide don't have much respect for the Izmash shotguns. They dis heck out of the "price shotguns" and always advise buying used.

 

I bought an IZH 27 for about $350 after I took a look--better than I had expected. I was going to get a Fabarms I/O but thought that I keep $1000 and move up later if I want to shoot trap competitively. The gun was a bit stiff at first but has loosened up.

[Cobra sight ?]

I have one on my Saiga 7.62 and have been very impressed on how well it holds zero.

 

The 7.62x39mm is becoming my #1 fun gun.

 

I don't know why you would put on on a shotgun unless deer hunting with slugs.

[How Accurate?]

I second what makc said. My Saiga with a Kobra red dot is my number one fun gun. The Kobra holds it's zero very well! I can shoot a box of Barnual ammo and stay well within a 5 1/2" bull at 100 yrds on sand bags. I have some pretty tight groups with it.

 

I also recommend 7.62x39mm as the the first Saiga--- ammo is cheap and easily obtained.

 

If you want to shoot an inch group or better than start saving for an AR 15 with a floated barrel. With good ammo or hand loads they are awesome.
