edit: just fyi, it's impossible to see those threads at sksboards.com without registering.. which is a pita when you have no interest whatsoever in the forum otherwise.

  3. I am selling a Saiga 308 w/ 16.3" barrel. I bought this recently, but I could really use the money now. Haven't even fired it yet. it is brand new, all i've done with it is cycle the action a few times and take it apart once. Comes with the cleaning kit, cleaning rod, lube bottle, and 8 round mag. Asking $570 plus shipping to an FFL, which should run $25-$30. Rifle is no longer for sale. Can't seem to edit the title.

I also have TAPCO AK/Saiga parts for sale. I don't have the packaging they came in, but they have never been installed or used and have been sitting in a box since last year. All furniture is olive drab in color. I don't have pictures right now, so I'm providing links to TAPCOs website. I'll try to have pics up in the coming days.

  4. I found an importer that has a pile of g3 magazines with broken off feed lips and dented bodies for about .89 each. So I think I found my springs for now at least.

I'm waiting on a little feed back from a guy in town that had a few saiga rifles as well a forum member that got one. If I need to make any adjustments I'd like to know before I have more out then I can fix.

For all I know I might have a vodka special and all the measurements from my rifle where off. I do know that my magazines lock in all five of a dealers saiga .308s (priced at 1000.00 each so don't bother asking the name) So I'd like to think that it's perfect... But I find that it's best to be careful.

I am another following with great interest. I'd certainly be willing to be another test subject during development. I was about ready to sell my recently purchased saiga 308 because of the lack of hi-caps, but now I will be holding onto it for awhile to see how this goes. Best of luck to you!

  5. Hey guys,

I recently bought a 308 saiga and i'm lookin for a little encouragement. I have lusted over the saiga 308 for five years, ever since i first heard about it. heck, i even bought two eight round mags for it off a board member in 2004--$28.50 shipped for both, oh how times change. (the funds for the gun never materialized back then so i sold them )

it really fits the bill for what im looking for. durable, reliable, simple, great round-- i'm drinking the "5.56x45 lacks stopping power and 7.62x39 sucks past 200-300 yards" koolaid. :P -- pretty good accuracy, easily scopable, lots of add ons to choose from. except the one thing that has always been the bane of the saiga 308 (IMO) -- hi-cap magazines.

i have been following it thru the years, and so i was pretty excited about the FBMG 308 mags. while not entirely excited about paying $45/ pop for plastic mags they seemed to have a good reputation. so i started getting excited again(maybe a year ago?) about buying one. picked one up in december after the mad rush subsided somewhat and gilberts had them for $550.

except come to find out after i bought, FBMG stopped making them!! there are the surefire still, i realize, but it seems so hit and miss--some people have good luck and others dont. thats not the type of product i'm looking for. i'm following the FAL mag converter development with high hopes.

with the uncertain political future, "waiting it out" may not be a great option. i am thinking of going with a DPMS 308 AR and selling the saiga. $30 hi quality steel mags sounds pretty good to me right now. thoughts? (other than "i'll do you a favor, i'll take it off your hands and i want charge ya nothin! :lolol: )

    --Dave

--edit-- I should add, I do not have an extensive collection like some of you. pistol(XD 40), shotgun(12 GA over/under), bolt action(k31), and the saiga. i am really trying to round out all my needs with the addition of the saiga (or its replacement with the 308 AR) as my interest in shooting lately can't justify extensive spending, too many other hobbies and traveling to do.

  6. hey guys, I thought I remembered seeing a thread not too long ago about how to modify g3(i think) mags to work with a saiga .308. But I can't seem to find it now....

And I'm not talking about modifying the gun itself, I found plenty of posts about that. Just looking for the mag conversion that will work without having to mod the gun. Unless of course I'm imagining things....

  7. Hey Guys,

I'm interested in getting a Saiga .308 w/ the 16" barrel. I was just wondering what my options for muzzle brakes were. The barrel is not threaded for one, correct?

If that is the case, I would rather not thread it myself, and just get a pin on muzzle break. Are there any good ones? Cause its gonna be crappy and not work well, or just fall off I won't even waste my time.

I've read all the 16" vs. 22" topics here, and it seems like a couple people said the 16" pretty much shoots flames out the barrel, lol. Would everyone else agree with that too? Maybe a flash supressor would be a good idea then? any of those available?

Also, where do you guys generally get accessories for your saigas?

PS-damn these forums, won't let me edit the title!! realized i spelled it wrong a second afte posting

  8. just thought i'd add, I think the greatest gun i've shot in terms of feel and ease of aim is an m1 carbine. Man, I hit anything with that gun it felt like, and it was so comfy and easy to point. I'd almost get one of those, but I want something that can shoot out a little further than 7,62x39, which the 30 carbine certainly does not. I think the m1 carbine is my reason for wanting a sort of compact gun.

what is your guys favorite rifle for the way it handles?

  9. hey guys, new member here. been reading the forums, lotsa good info. Right now my only rifle is a Yugo SKS which I am quite fond of. As much as I love it, I have an itch for another gun. In fact I was thinking of getting a SKS paratrooper but I thought I'd like another calibre. I know some of you guys like to keep it all one calibre or just a couple so you can stockpile those ammos, but well, I'm just curious to try something different. I am thinking I will be getting a .308 Saiga(yeah I know, wrong forum, but this one seems to get the most traffic out of the rifles), probably 16" barrel, early next year hopefully.

Anyways, I was wondering, how do you like the feel of the saiga? Like how well does it shoulder/aim? I ask, because the only AK I shot, I did not like at all the way it felt. Didn't shoulder well at all for me. Maybe cause I'm kinda a big guy, I don't know. I know the AK is very much like the Saiga, so I'm just wondering if it will be alike in this aspect as well?

I know the best solution would be to go to a gun shop and handle one but I don't really like those around here(luckily I know a real friendly guy who does transfers, so i don't have to deal with the gun store owners), and the next gun show around here isn't till the end of spring .

and i don't know if i can wait that long. i've been thinking about what gun I would like next for awhile(haven't bought a new gun in like 15 months....got my shotgun beginning of summer 03 and SKS end of same summer, i'm going thru withdrawal  ), what features I want, that sort of thing. Basically, I want a rifle with detachable mag(something my yugo sks lacks and I can not legally add, even now, because I live in NY, the AWB never really ended for me, god damn NY law sucks), something reasonably priced, reliable, semi auto, cheap ammo, a different calibre preferably with more punch, good scope mounting solution and reasonably accurate. all of which the saiga matches. and for around $300 for a .308 saiga, i think I'm in love.

Of course if money was no object, I'd get a AR-10, FAL or M1a, but wouldn't we all? I just couldn't justify spending $1500+ on one of those right now. Sure, I could get a CETME pretty cheap, but I don't want a parts rifle, which may or may not be reliable. And from what I've been hearing, the Springfield M1as have had a lot of issues, which is just unacceptable to me, for a $1200+ rifle, so If I get an m1a i'd prolly end up spending 2 grand and gettin one form a different company. I don't know, maybe I'll hold off until I graduate to get another gun and get somethin real nice(one of the above probably), but somehow I think I'll end up with a Saiga or something else before spring is up.

    Lovin the forums.... :smoke:
