  1. The russians could be using the threaded barrels with rifles that have a FSB/GB combo. That way an attachment can be added since it won't reach the block.

Izhmash advertises AKM and AKMS rifles under products->weapons... so I guess Izhmash still makes these as well as the AK-103/104... probably where these barrels are coming from.... ?

  2. It appears that the two features which indicate you have a factory-threaded, military version barrel as opposed to the standard civilian Saiga barrel are the addition of the notches for the lower handguard retainer and the lack of stepping in the cases. For those hoping to find threads hiding under the front sleeve of the FSB because of your manufacture date, I would assume that the lack of those two features assures you have the standard non-threaded barrel.

  3. Were the notches cut into the side of the barrel for the lower handgaurd retainer? Does your barrel put the step into the neck of the casings? My brother picked up an '09 that has the notches cut into the barrel and it also does not step the cases... leaving me to believe he may have a barrel that is also threaded...

(He plans on removing his FSB sometime in the near future, but hasn't yet)

  4. From what I've heard, if your vehicle does not have a trunk, you need to transport your firearms in a case that has a lock on it when crossing state lines.

    Edit: From http://www.nraila.org/GunLaws/Federal/Read.aspx?id=59

Notwithstanding any state or local law, a person shall be entitled to transport a firearm from any place where he may lawfully possess it to any other place where he may lawfully possess such firearm if the firearm is unloaded and in the trunk. In vehicles without a trunk, the unloaded firearm shall be in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console. Necessary stops, like gasoline and rest, seem permissible.
  5. Almost finished with my 5.45x39 conversion and had some questions before continuing. Today I replaced my GB and FSB but haven't drilled the holes and put the pins in yet. I received an order of parts for this conversion today and the pins I ordered were left out, so I'm wondering if there's anything else I could use as suitable replacements for the pins. Also, since this is my first time working on a rifle to this extent, I'm not fully confident I have the GB aligned. Light and air both appear to be passing through the gas port, but for all I know the hole could be half covered by the GB. Just wondering if it's alright to take it out and fire off a couple rounds to test functionality before drilling and putting the pins in.

Other than that, all I should have left is to put in the bullet guide and k-var handguard (arriving tomorrow from Dinzag) and cut the HG retainer notch on the barrel.

    Poor quality pic attached...

  6. I just heard about this, but for all you vets out there who served after 9/11 and your enlistment was extended due to stop-loss, looks like they are retroactively paying $500 for each month of stop-loss. (18 months here :super: !)

Thought there might be others here who qualify, or know someone who does...

  7. By the way, the weight of the UTG rail is 12.2 oz (from leapers site). Didn't have an easy time finding the weight of the Ultimak (tube and tri rail) until I came across a post on glocktalk where a dude weighed it... gas tube: 4 oz, ACR2: 12 oz, total: 16 oz.

  8. I helped someone I know do a conversion on their 7.62 Saiga. When he told me he had ordered this UTG quad rail, I told him all about the negative things I've heard about it, blah blah, it might just be junk. But, now that I've actually seen it myself and fired that rifle many times now (in fact, was just shooting that rifle a few hours ago) I can't find a single complaint against it... except maybe the ability to cowitness, but some people could care less.

  9.

This has got to be a PR stunt of some type. No one in active duty milatary is wearing multicam that I know of (and you don't wear black boots with multicam from the proposiles I've seen to switch from ACU to multicam) Guys boots are unbloused, no unit patchs, flags, names, ranks, or branch of sevice on their uniforms. None of these clowns seem to know how to proporly detain some one. Looks like some one got their three biggest friends that are in shape together, gave then high and tight hair cuts and hit up a local military surplus store. I call BS on this PR stunt :lolol: :lolol: :lolol:

Did you look at the picture that Will posted? Those are the same dudes that appear in the video posted of the kid getting shoved in the car. It's impossible to tell who these guys are actually working for, they aren't necessarily military. It seems the only type of identifying feature they have is on their armbands, which seem to contain ID. But a fake/staged PR stunt? Don't think so. There's a part 2 to that video. Notice the kid with the red bandanna standing in front of the car as the other kid is forced inside? He's arrested in the next part:

Is that video a staged PR stunt as well?

  10. It sounds like your right hammer spring leg could be hopping off toward the center of the gun and getting stuck under the disconnector, causing it (disconnector) to still hold the hammer. When you push the trigger forward, it pushes the hammer spring out and allows the disconnector to release the hammer.

If that's the case, you need to bend that leg of the spring outward.

I've been having this trigger reset problem intermittently (maybe 1/100 rounds) ever since I put my BHO back in. Sure enough, after reading this I looked and am positive that's what was causing it. Cool! Thanks.

  11. After I did my conversion, I didn't do the bullet guide right away because I was waiting on a drill press to use. So I went out to test my new conversion, and since I had some 30 round mags with me I thought I'd try them out and see what happened. The only ammo I had on hand that day was SP silver bear, and I fired about 120 of them (even some bump firing) without any trouble. However, I did check and noticed the SP tips were mashing up a bit when cycling, so I stopped. Got impatient and then installed the bullet guide with a hand drill and no press... it was really easy to do, too easy...

  12. As far as the Tapco T6, I bought the T6 for my conversion. (Having never held or fired an AK before this, and having been issued an M4 for 5 years.) Overall it felt plenty sturdy, however I didn't like that it rattled slightly. I fixed that by sticking some padding on the inside of the tube in two places and now it's perfect. Also, it didn't sit flush with the bottom of the receiver, which I fixed by putting a small washer under the tang to make it line up right. Another thing I did was cut the end of my cleaning kit tube off and force it into the tube so just enough was sticking out that I can take the cap on and off. It fit in there tight, it's not going anywhere. With the stock shortened all the way, the end of the cleaning kit sticks out as you can see in the following pic. So now the whole tube can be used for the normal cleaning kit parts plus anything else I might want to fit in there.

  13. Hello, folks. Just wanted to post an introduction since I've been lurking on these forums a little over a month now, shortly before deciding to buy my new 762x39 Saiga. Gotta say a big reason I decided to go with a Saiga was because of all the great info available from all of you on this forum. Anyways, got an email from Dinzag that my parts have been shipped and they should be here any day now, so I'll be starting my conversion soon (stock, pistol grip, fcg and bullet guide). Which means I'll probably be back soon with questions if I run into problems.. or at least pics afterwards + my own contributions to the forum when I can. Thanks for reading.. -Kolya
