  1. We service and test fire with federal 1 1/8 oz bulk pack. The light or inconsistant 1 oz birdshot loads just dont cut it for backpressure in the gas system.

Thanks for that bit of info! Then my gun was doing really well to be shooting the light crap loads that are 20 plus years old. Odd how when you put things in the right light things look brighter.... fantasic!

  2. After getting my MD 20 drum to fit ( corrections A and B), I finally had time to test the gun. I only had time to loadup 4 rounds into the drum and see what happended. The gas setting is on 2. The loads are older remington 2 3/4 number 9 shot.

I chambered the first round, fired it and the gun chambered the next round. I then tried a rapid fire and on the 3rd round got a stove pipe ( fired 2, but the 2nd round jamed). Cleared the gun, chambered the last round and it fired and ejected fine.

The ammo is old, and has been around a while, may have lost some punch....

Any ideas from you fellow drum owners on what the most common factor for a stove pipe may be? The gun has fired from stick mags many times without fail, but not using this ammo as I normally shoot 3" mag OO buck.

    Thanks..

  3. I think I could file on my drum for two hours, and turn it completely into a large pile of plastic dust and metal shavings. When I got mine it fit right into 3 out of 4 S-12s I tried, with no adjustment. I had some FTF issues with those, but at least it fit.

When helping krisfox fit his drum to his S-12, I think it took about 10 - 15 minutes tops. You can't be afraid of messing it up while fitting it. Just follow the instructions to the letter, and recheck the fit often.

Well, perhaps I was too cautious. But to me, having to fit a drum that cost near $300 is not a 10 min job I wanted to make sure it fit right and without issues. I used 2 hrs, it was perhaps 1hr 45 min. Of course not all that time was used filing off the drum, and there were a few other topics going on at the same time ( phone, doorbell etc). I would file, fit, look into the chamber and see how it was fitting and making sure I had not taken too much off. I made a fireing pin for a 9mm Astra once from a screw driver doing the same thing. My point it to take your time, it's not a race. I added this so that in the future if anyone else has to do the same they should not feel rushed by the video. If some here are supper mechanical types great. For us mortals take your time is the key word. Easy to remove more, harder to add file dust from the floor that has been taken off. Now I just hope the drum feeds without issues after all that time sitting filing and watching fox news.

  4. I'm sure this has been covered here but for those that are thinking about buying an MD20 drum some info.

Before I bought one I read about the fitting issues. That is, some guns the drum won't fit out of the box. There are adjustments "a", and "b" to be done ( worst case), some guns the mag fits right off, and some guns only have to do adjustment "a".

So, as soon as the UPS mad drops by I open the box, got the S12 and gave it a try. Yep, sure enough mne did not fit into the magwell. The mag comes with some basic instructions that show what fitting needs to be done, and there is a good video on the MD 20 web site as well. To anyone that buys one of these mags be sure you read the info that comes with the mag, and watch the video more than a few times.

Mine was the worst case that needed both "a", and "b' mods done. ( great!)

It took me no less than 2 hrs to file, fit, read again, watch the video, file, fit and make sure I did not screw up the mag to where it would not fit. I used small jewler's files. After I got the mag to seat into the gun properly I cycled a few rounds through it ( non-firing), just to see if the round was at the right angle and would function from the mag to the chamber and then eject. All went well, I will test fire the gun soon.

My point to anyone is make sure you have time to spare when you undertake the fitting. Don't rush. In my case I had to take off a heck of a lot of material before the mag would fit and function. The video makes it look like the adjustment is a 5 min job and at least in some cases this is far from the truth to be sure!

    Good luck!

  5. H08442XXX, dated 10/28/08. 4 holes and Chaous gas port adapter. Runs great. Side note: At first I thought I had a 2 hole gun as the other two holes were hard to see. You really need to look or as in my case take a small wite and "fish" around a bit. My other two holes are above the two that are visable.

  6. can anyone post a pic of the park job on thiers?

Did someone say S12 SVDS?

Mine is just parked and not painted, it came out really smooth.

Keith is indeed great to work with, if there are problems he's quick to make it right, he stands behind his work and he's one of the people in the business that really seems to enjoy what he does (as opposed to it being a business only).

And Raoul and I had a riot of a good time at ASC with our S12's. Mine is exactly my dream S12 but Raoul's is so fricken sweet, I couldn't believe an S12 could be tweaked to be so good. It ran so smooth if it were painted yellow I'd swear it was made out of butter :)

Thanks for reminding me. The gun I got from Tac-47 has a very smooth trigger.. I'm not sure what they did to the trigger group, but it indeed shoots smoother than most of my military gunsn ( minus match rifles and sniper guns etc). A harsh trigger makes a gun a PITA to shoot, The mod S-12 from Keither is really a shooter!

  7. Just got my Saiga 12 back from Tac-47 and I cannot say enough good about them. They did a fantastic job on the gun. Great welding job ( HK sights front and rear). The Parkerizing is perfect! I could not have hoped for a better conversion!

Side note: I had a conversion done by another in Texas a year ago. It was done so bad I sent it back for another try. Then nearly a year later after many excuses the gun was still not done. So, I opted for a full refund and a new gun. The new gun was sent directly to Tac-47 and the work began. Today was the function test on the range and the gun fired without fail no matter the load or the mag loaded into the gun. Also shot a great pattern and dead on with the sights ( how in the hell did they zero the gun when welding on the sights?)

The best part of Tac-47 is Keith. He took my desires for the mods, had the parts in stock ( another amazing point to make about Tac-47). Keith keep me informed of the delivery time and was spot on with the date. No delays, no excuses and a first rate firearm! I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to mod a Saiga 12. ( they also do other work, and from the example of what a fine job they did for me I would have to assume anything they do is first rate!)

  8. well, my will to make the mags got to me and after a day at the range of working with them I got at least two of them to work without issues. Still, not a large fan of Promags and I won't buy any more of those types, at least not for my gun. I've got 8 10 rnd mags, the russian 8 rounders and I think I'll do the MD 20 drum for a final mag count on the gun. Call me silly but I would expect a mag that cost $50 each would work out of the box!

    Thanks for the comments...

  9. Thanks for the note back, and I did a search but I suppose not the right one. I foudn notes on drum issues, and other mags but not issues that seem to be the same I am having. Not sure what cork tea is or where to locate it

Think I'll send the frigging pro-mags that don't fit back to the seller and buy only ones I don't have to make fit. Seems a waste of time to me to sit around and file on mags that may not work at the end of the day anyway.

    thanks

  10. Greetings, I just got me Saiga 12 with mods in the mail and find that it will only take 10 rnd mags made by AGP ( and the 5 round that came with it). When I try to use a pro-mag the mag is very hard to fit inside the mag well, and for the few that do fit the bolt action gets jammed open until I release the mag and take it out. Anyone know what the heck may be going on here? I don't mind useing one type of mag, but I cannot see why any mag made for the gun would not work, I do notice that the AGP mag and the 5 round that came with it all have a slant cut on the rear of the mag that the promag does not. I was all set to buy a MD20 drum and now don't know if that would fit either. ???
