  1. With U.S. unions, insurance, licensing and the rest I don't see a competitor to the low cost saiga-12 arriving anytime soon..

HOWEVER: if you can make me a reliable, ergonomic, mag fed, semi auto 12 gauge made here in the USA for a fair price.. Yeah I'd go for it. Not a big fan of giving my money to the ruskies but with the way our industry works there's just no domestic option if you want a decent product at a good price.

  2. can we move this to political? this thread is BS.

Not a fan of the current gov but also don't believe Chernobyle had a worthwhile effect, let alone the considerably less extreme meltdown we currently face. I'm pretty sure Hiroshima and Nagasaki had a more extreme effect.. that went unnoticed for the U.S.. Tired of the nuclear fear mongering. We have bigger issues that get less attention.

  3. there are a few of us, I'm down in Charleston county, and I know of at least 2 other forum members from the state, but we're all well spread out. I'll let them chime in if they like rather then intrude on their privacy.

  4. A lot of people and organizations like to make the ammunition a condition of your warranty; that is, fire steel-case Silver Bear or Wolf in it, and your warranty is void. Some sort of irrational paranoia about the interaction between extractors and steel cases. My own M4 (Bravo Co.) has fired a handful of rusty, dirt-covered Wolf .223 picked up off the ground at the range and had zero problems firing and cycling them (besides one misfire.)

Regarding sights, I don't know what to tell you, other than the obligatory "if you buy cheap shit, all you'll have is shit." I had a stand-alone A4 rear sight made by NCstar, cost me $30 and wouldn't clamp down tight on the rail, lots of forward-and-back play. I got a plain old Colt M4 carry handle (actual Colt manufacture) off eBay for $50 and it works just fine. The only stipulation is that I had to take it apart and clean the sand out of it after it made its trip back from Iraq. I agree with Shooter on the Daniel Defense and Troy sights, they are known for good quality and the sights do look pretty nice.

In terms of reliability and how good your rifle will be: there is better quality stuff out there than Spikes but they aren't bad, and there's a LOT of much worse quality stuff available. I give your pick an 8.5 out of 10. :) I have only one question: what kind of buttstock do you have? If it's a fixed M16 rifle type stock, you'll have zero problems. If it's a collapsible/telescopic carbine stock (which I assume it is because no one likes fixed stocks anymore) take a look at your recoil buffer. If it doesn't say H3 on the face, you should replace it with one that does* (Bravo Company sells them for about $40); you won't regret it - that's the key to making your rifle run reliably. (Please oh please don't buy into the gas piston conversion kit bullshit!)

*And yes, I consider Spike's ST-T2 buffer to be not heavy enough.

    -Katemonster

I agree on the shitty quality stuff, and have personally experienced exactly what you just described on NCSTAR, but on one of their scopes- that was the last time I bought cheap. The butstock is a magpul collapsible... to go with the ugly ass magpul handguard I intend on throwing out as soon as possible. The recoil buffer is the ST-T2, I'll try the h3 when I can, it's out of stock. As far the piston bullshit- I'm a diehard piston guy, that's why I bought this rifle, to test my opinion. (I hate having opinions without at least understanding and testing what the other guys say) No pistons will be used on it, I'm given an honest effort to make myself a good direct impingement rifle.

Also I've gone with the daniel defense rear sight, should be here soon. Unfortunately between it, the ammo, and the mags it's the last thing I'll be doing to this rifle before the next paycheck.

Funny thing is, a WASR-3 I put money aside for a while ago is being delivered this weekend- they will probably get tested together.

  5. yeah, guy I bought it from specifically said not to buy silver bear... But maybe it was so I'd load up on some overpriced winchester at his store..

Well- if the AR doesn't eat it, the WASR will! wolf's the cheapest aim has but I'm not sure what to think of it.

the Prvi I'll definately give a chance when I recover from how much I just spent.. until then it's cheaper ammo

  6. yeah, plastics a no go, for me irons need to be there as long as the rifle is still functioning. Ty for the suggestions guys.. debating on flip up or not as I'm not really a red dot type.. I think they're fun range toys but I'll take irons any day.

so far I'm really like the RAA, troy, and dd.. But leaning towards troy and DD (again, I'm not sure I like red dots enough to throw extra money/weight on it)

edit: one more question.. What ammo? Hear AR's don't like certain things.. Like lacquer or some casings. Stuff aimsurplus sells would be a plus if I go with the daniel defense which I'm leaning toward

  7. yeah, if all hell broke loose I'm taking a 47 with some 8m3 ammo.

But I'm also building a .223 ak to take AR mags just for compatability since I own an AR now.. and since I found a good quality wasr-3 for 300

another thought on SHTF.. Yeah AR parts would be more available, but the AK wouldn't need em. Ammo and mags is a different issue.. guess .223 aks are good in that respect.

edit: btw is it normal for spike AR's to have heavy triggers from the factory? it may be non standard since the store builds em but I'm thinking it's probably typical for spike lower recievers?

  8. Picked up an AR today. Store near me builds with Spike parts and sells for a good price. I'm not an AR fan but I figure unfair of me to have such a critical opinion of them without owning one and giving it a fair chance.. Bit irritated as it's near the most money I've spent on a single gun and I could have got something I'd prefer, but I want to be fair and this is a really popular rifle many people swear by. Anyway, thing didn't come with a rear sight and I'm an irons kind of guy. What do yall recommend? I'm looking for something solid and reliable. Price isn't a problem if it's worth the extra money- I have a crappy red dot slapped on it until I have the funds.

  9. nice.i bought the ak black front furniture and ak gas tube. now just waiting on css to make some lower guard pieces for the 308.

If your talking about standard lower AK handguards just get one and modify it, not that difficult. People do it for the s12 all the time. The retainer would be a bit more dificult but doable. If you need either there are plenty of business members who are good at it, maybe start a WTB thread and see if someone will help you.

  10. Well the 16" is pretty light. Loaded out with optics on the saiga 308, it feels pretty similar to my AR15 in weight.

The PSL might be a little heavy but that's one I don't think you could tear up if you drove your truck over the mags. I hope the Uinta mags are durable enough for SHTF confidence.

also the ammo is heavier so you'd likely carry less.

As far as uinta's I don't plan on driving a truck over them. My .308 isn't set up for the end of the world but I guess if whatever happened I think the Uinta mags would be fine. I don't think I'd be throwing them on concrete or anything.. Falling out of a tree onto dirt seems like the worst case scenario for them. Maybe falling in a creek. If I get the courage/money maybe I'll do a stress test anyway- they seem real solid.

I'm in agreement that the strongest mag possible is a good idea but it's not enough of a consideration that I'd use a different gun simply because Uinta's arn't metal. I prefer the .308 to the PSL, especially in a 100+ degree climate where the PSL's heat issues are a serious problem so I'd rather have a .308 with uinta mags. If saiga made a 54r that'd be the best of both worlds. Maybe the csspsecs mags remedy your concerns, I'm not lucky enough to own one.

As I've said before, if the world ended or something I wouldn't grab a PSL or a .308 anyway.

  11. The .308 is a bit heavier then the others. Reality is if TSHTF or whatever I'd probably carry a lighter rifle, simular to the one in the foreground of the attached pic but in 7.62 without the PK-A.

BUT if we're gonna play the what if with the .308 and I'm gonna haul the heavy clusmy thing around I'd probably dress it up like my current loadout to at least take advantage of the thing.

For optics I'd go with a PoSP or PSO for sure. Love my POSP. Built for the gun, works great

I hate the "bolt hold open mags" that don't actually hold the bolt open when removed, have a couple but I prefer uinta's new mags.. 20 rounds, lightweight, and tough. csspecs(sp?) steel mags look cool as well but havn't tried them.

For the stock I'm running a mako (or israeli weapons website, same thing) recoil reducing stock. Seems solid. I'd recommend it.

For bipod I like the winchester wally world one- have it on two rifles and it's simple and durable.

I like this tri rail http://www.mississippiautoarms.com/surefire-saiga-12-trirail-forearm-generation-2-p-170.html

Durable and comfortable on the non railed area. I've trimmed my down to allow a standard AK gas tube and upper handguard (for cosmetics, no real practical gain)

Finaly if your talking SHTF I guess you'll be wanting to put a flashider on it, so I'd look into that.

And a sling that doesnt bug you, I have a simple one from walmart- works for me.

Anyway heres a pic of my setup- (the bigger one in the back obviously). Older pic.. mako stock isn't on it in that one.

  12. Meh. I really don't think the nuclear power plant is going to be an issue- I think the libtards are tryng to make it look like a big deal to scare people off of nuclear power plants. If you read about Chernobyl it took a LOT of stupidity for them to screw it up. Probably some minor radiation will leak and people will write articles about it's uncomfirmed potential lasting effects for the next 3 years when it's a slow day or when a new plant is proposed until it gets old.

At least I hope it's not a big deal, time will tell.. But my vote is on it being fairly minor.

Also should mention my thoughts and prayers go out to all those killed/homeless/starving.. Horrible what's happened over there.

  13. Without them there is no website, no parts for conversions, no improvements, no financial support for this platform. Without you this site would be fine. It's not a question of balls, its a question of liking this site and supporting it against idiots calling for change that would ultimately tear it down. The site can lose a few people who don't like the rules and be great, but if we lose the venders the site is toast. Quit being a jackass. And if your going to be a jackass, go do it elsewhere. Pauly's done a sweet job and you use his thread to start complaining about the way the website is run and encouraging people by example NOT to use paulys or other venders services. Take it elsewhere.

Ass-kisser... without US... there is NO WEBSITE!!!!~

I'm not gonna continue this here, it's not constructive to what pauly made the thread for. If you want to debate this make your own thread.

  15. Pauly, you seem like a great guy with lots of talent and an excellent reputation. I want you to do a LOT of work for me. However, I'm personally avoiding ALL vendor support on this forum until Mods realize that We, The People, of this forum are just as important as the Vendors. The Mods just don't get it and are whacking any/all members who post concerns from OTHER vendors who mess things up. Personally, I'm NOT going to put up with it. Ban me as they may.

Wow.. no we're not as important. This site is a business, not your playground. Your not contributing as much as the venders and your not running it. You are NOT as important as the venders.

edit: and boycotting the venders who are supporting this site is one of the the DUMBEST things I've ever heard of.

  16. I really think your going about this the wrong way.. Pictures arn't gonna help you determine something so small.. Get a bore sighter, then sight it in at a range.. or just sight it in at the range. We're talking millimeters here!

and a sight that's canted by a millimeter or so isn't really canted.. it's within acceptable tolerances which is why the front sight can be adjusted in the first place. If it was as easy as just looking at it and lining it up there'd be no need for adjustible sights.
