not a bad deal, especially if the scope is genuine.. Don't know enough about scopes really though to say yes or no based on it..
but if your limitted to one rifle and funds are low as you seem to suggest, your still better off with a 7.62 purely because guns you can't afford to fire are less fun
-
Obviously since it was a military based shooting, we need to take the militarys guns.. then we will be safe.
-
think they havn't been compared because although both reliable, they are as different as can be.. While neither is particularly accurate and focus on reliability over accuracy, the tommy gun is a SMG using .45 ACP where as the AK is a rifle using the 7.62.. The actions are both extremely different. Plus if I remember the tommy guns effective range is like 100 yards, which is less then a third of the AKs..
They sort of fit into a different categories. Interesting comparisson though, I know less than I'd like to about the tommy gun.

the saiga is one of the most rewarding experiences ever.. People say "whats that" and your respond oh it's an AK I did some work on, moved the FCG blah blah blah.. You know, all the fun stuff you get to do to customize it.. Plus it's higher quality than most wasr's.. As for .308 or 7.62, go for which one you want.. .308 better for hunting, expensive ammo though.. but it's an added cool factor to have a .308 AK.. at least around here (not website, place I live) people tend to be suprised.. It's always funny when some guy is showing off his extremely low recoil .22 ar15 or ak, and you show up with an AK that took the opposite (and more badass) direction..
If you don't own a 7.62 I'd go for a saiga 7.62 first so you have a fun gun to shoot affordably, and eventually get a .308 for when you feel like being a big spender on ammo to play with MoAs (not as good as say an M1, but not bad) or blast a deer (not that the 7.62 won't do that).
Sorta how I work, the .308s kind of my favorite, but the 7.62 gets more use.

not only choke but slugs..
If a game had choke that was adjustable the same way you zoom a scope in some games (ok unrealistic, but it beats having no choke, maybe it could be incremental and take as much time as putting a silencer on in CS), and alternate fire as slugs OR HE/Frag grenades if you wanna go all out.. Saiga 12 would be best gun in a game ever..

good point.. for some reason I forgot they wouldn't have anything but bird shot.. still.. I'd almost be more afraid of being caught, held hostage, and then killed then just being shot.. Who knows maybe a loud bang will have them pick a new target.
Obviously my choice is the wrong one since they'd either run, or more likely mow me down, whereas these guys got off relatively unharmed.
well, I guess the lesson that can be learned is.. bring a rifle and a pistol if you go hunting down there.. or at least some heavy shot/slugs..

oh man, your out 400$ for 4 months? if thats the biggest problem in your life right now your one of the lucky few, and if it's not, I'd hate to see how you react to the more important crap. It sucks, but not enough to go on a public medium and start an angry tirade.. Chill..
Woa wierdest sense of Deja vu..

I'm amazed that 20 armed hunters surrendered.. I guess they thought they were police.. It's not a matter of bravery, I just wouldn't want to risk surrendering to a group of mexican armed criminals, would prefer my odds blasting at them. I guess it worked out ok, but my immediate thoughts at seeing these guys coming would be I'd rather be dead than whatever they have in store for me.. Guess I woulda been wrong though. Pretty brave to attack armed tourists of all things...

nice, they all look great converted!
-
the problem isn't zeroing it, it's that even at the lowest setting (crosshairs are as low as possible) the bullet still hits about 8 feet lower. It's a mounting problem, not zeroing
-
sounds like the guys a douchebag.. I'd avoid him

very nice! Nice little setup

EDIT: .308 fixed.. mosin still in need of a redneck fix
Well, me and my buddy both got scopes for our guns, me for my saiga .308 and him for his mosin nagant.. and we both had disapointing results. My scope on the .308 at highest height setting (or 100 yards) was off by 4 feet at 100 yards.. Couldn't find anyway to raise the sight.. My buddys mosin nagant shot low by about 8 feet, he had to aim so high his scope couldn't see the target at all.. Likewise, his scope couldn't adjust any more.. Any recomendations for adjusting them further?
Here are pictures of the two of them so you can get a better idea of how they are mounted.. and maybe notice if we made any stupid mistakes.

Mosin Nagant (Ncstar.. forgot what type)

just an update, back from the range and my saiga is now flawless.. drilling your gas holes shouldn't take more then about 15 minutes if you have an issue
-
if you decide to rebore out the gas ports, there are a lot of threds here that can help, but it's a rather hard process to explain so it'd be best if you find an older thread.. Hopefully it won't be an issue for you, but I'm literally heading out to test mine after a second time redrilling the gas holes

This time, private security guards on the Danish-owned ship fended off the pirates by shooting back and using loud sounds, EU and U.S. naval sources said.
wonder which method was more effective..

sorta going back to the one gun that does it all idea.. Gonna say I doubt many people actually expect to get one gun to do everything, the point for me often is getting one that will do the most for the money.. So the .308 wins for me of the two. Lightweight, reliable, and reasonably accurate for a fair price makes me feel like it works in more conditions for less money. If I can only have one gun, I want to cover as many scenarios as I can. Just my thoughts, but I would be proud to own an M1 as well.

well thank god for these people. they are the ones that will likely get busted and cause a bunch of fuss about how bullshit it all is so we don't have to. Also if a stupid law is ignored to a ridiculous degree it becomes dificult to enforce...
Their lack of knowledge is astounding, but beneficial as long as your careful to make sure you fall in line with the rules. Laws that are worded so badly they are hard to understand are retarded anyway, if not for this forum and other people translating 922r, I'd have no clue what the hell it was about.

nifty, but too abuseable.. Don't like the idea of king barry knowing all my guns and where they are so he can sieze them, or anyone else for that matter.. also not much for protecting yourself if they are sending a HERE I AM signal out the whole time. I can count just fine thanks.

Yeah.. Unions might make life better for union workers in the short run.. but lets be honest, coming out of the evil "robber barons" and other industrialists we were one of the strongest financial companies in the world with one of the better lifestyles comparitive to the rest of the world.. Let's not forget "Robber Barons" lived luxorious lifestyles filled with services and possessions that they paid hard working americans for, increasing demand which by default increases wages and overall lifestyle regardless of the difference in income. With the fall of people like the robber barons and the rise of unions we have seen a fall in our over all finance, and once our GDP catches up with it the fall of overall quality of life. And it's not "our right" to have a well-paying easy job- that's just naive just as it's not "our right" to demand that employers lower their standards to it our needs... It's their company, and if someones willing to do whatever it takes to make it by, good on them, they are increasing productivity, GDP, and eventually lifestyle. The world is a harsh and competitive place, and as nice as the things that unions offer are, the offering actually cripples productivity.. We are still riding on a strong U.S. dollar based on productivity that doesn't take place anymore.. Once everything catches up our U.S. dollars won't mean crap.. what foreign country is going to want to trade with us when all we offer is more expensive product made by happier workers? Like they give a damn.. I know it sucks working hard long hours, but it's going to suck even more if the unions get their way and we wind up being a country no one wants to import to or deal with whatsoever.. And frankly, it isn't an employers obligation to provide health benefits for employees.. That's a privalege that naturaly should take place in a supply and demand system for skilled labor, but if you throw it at every worker your just crippling the system..
And one of the things that pisses me off the most is people talking about the huge difference between upper and lower class- if a rich as hell upper class elevates your lower class to a level above most countries.. THATS A GOOD THING.. quit bitching abot what the rich motherfucker has and be happy for what you have.. I'd rather be bottom of the barrel and pulling 40 hour weeks but living a decent lifestyle then be stuck in even the "middle" class of a third world country, and I don't care what the gap between me and the richest is, as long as my countries system benefits me more then the equivelant people in another country, thats a sucess.

looks nice.. been thinking about tryng out owning a kel tec for a while now (since a gun show I went to where they had them at ridiculous prices, but I didn't know enough about them to buy one ).. Heard mixed reviews, some say they are garbage, but the vast majority say they are some of the nicest light weight reliable guns about... Hope to get my hands on one of their guns soon..
-
no one cares here either.. it's compliant anyway, but I've never heard of anyone actually being checked.

going back to the main topic, which makes me feel completly off topic now.. The OP basically stated that he was frustrated with his AR in 5.56 and had a good deal on an AR in .308.. I wouldn't choose the AR for .308, but if you have good deal lined up, gonna say go for it, you want a .308, an AR is available, sounds fun. Hope you enjoy it!

500 is still cheap for a military grade semi automatic rifle.. in fact, it's still cheaper then anything else.. Maybe it's expensive for a wasr but for a good quality ak-47 or a good quality semi auto rifle for that matter, it's a great price.

don't have as much experience as I like, so I wasn't going to respond, but no one else is..
The trigger pull won't change unless you mess with the FCG, as far as how the trigger will feel on your finger.. it's basically the same feel as a pistol grip since that's all it really is.. Bit confused as to your question.
