  1. I like it! also you'd be suprised how many guns are actually built on the AK- I know some people hate wikipedia, but I think it has a list somewhere from the obvious ones like the galil up to some that you wouldn't of figured (if not it has a pretty good list of "assault" rifles and it seems half of them are AK based). Guess in it's long career it's been copied a good amount of times.

Edit: did some searching, one of these will run you between 1500-2000.. I know it's advanced and all but I don't like spending that much on a gun when I get can get 2-3 nice saigas, the ergonomics of the XCR just arn't worth that price to me. I do like it though! Would definately be a contender against a sig, p90, f2000, fal, and aug if I was looking for a gun in that price range.

  2. I got the 22 inch, really enjoying it.. Wish I had a private range I could go to up here, sounds like you have a nice setup, I have a simular deal down near charleston but up here I'm restricted the the public range.. It's not too bad I guess but the rules can be a bit annoying, the three second rules and the limits on what kind of targets and stuff, although the shotgun part is a lot more relaxed..

  3. if you want to know.. go to any gun show.. most of the AKs there will be WASR's.. You'll find the majority of them to be pretty shoddy.. But the funny thing is at the last gunshow I went to the nice condition WASRs were around the same price as the other ones.. Found it interesting..

  4. think the one by the dove range is the one I think of as the liberty range.. the one close to the airfield right? being from Mt. Pleasant I don't know anyone with a private range so it's my only choice, even if I hate that 3 second rule!

And yup, at Clemson.. Hoping to hit the range both tomorrow (maybe) and friday, new gun to try out thanks to CaptLouie (.308 saiga).. plus I gotta burn off some steam tomorrow if I get the time, three exams thursday and I prefer to shoot before I study, puts me in a better state of mind. I'm out there most fridays really, normally blasting clays with my saiga-12, but I get a lot of funny looks when I hit the rifle range with the ak-47.

  5. depends on what your intent is.. for clays I've been more then happy with the iron sites.. but then again for clays I dont really line it up on the sites so much... If you want long(ish) range slug shooting thats gonna be a different story.. shotguns are kinda versatile

  6. just something to consider that I thought about with my choice... Yeah, the saiga 12 is the best if someone breaks into your home in a SHTF situation.. But realistically (haha, laughed a bit at myself for saying realistically) in a SHTF situation you need to be able to fight off people who will either fill your house with bullets rather than confront you in close quarters, or burn it, don't count on them getting in close... plus you gotta leave sometime to get food, and if some unfriendlies are hanging out with the average bolt action hunting rifle a saiga 12 is going to fall short.. literally..

another thing to consider is your house layout... I think of the saiga 12 as the BEST home defence weapon.. but currently I'm in an apartment and my door is locked, if someone broke into my apartment and started beating on my door (inside the main apartment) my best option would be to wall them through my shower which effectively acts as the end of the hall.. (in other words, they'd be beating on my door, and bullets would come flyng at them from the wall on their left side, about 4 feet from them). just the way my house works out to keep me out of their expected area (behind my door).. So although I think of the 12 as the best home defence weapon, in my particular situation I would grab my ak-47 first while they try to break in my door and I wreck them from an angle they never saw coming rather than confront them with the 12. :killer:

  7. nah, its just that its a "tactical" shotgun so the smaller barrels are more popular, although in reality a longer barrel is probably better for shooting clays. As far as german import markings... dunno, I guess maybe it went to germany before coming here? the only problem that comes up sometimes is with under gassed guns and there are people here who can fix that on warranty for you more than likely..

If you want more help posting the gunbroker link would probably help so we can get a look at it!

    Enjoy and congrats

  8. me and my friends where Wild Bill (me), Stae (best friend, Magic Slippaz or Slipz, and Shmildo.

Mine was the least creative and was just because I tend to be a bit wild (duh).. Stae evolved from williebeamen to beamen to steamen to staemen to stae over an 8 year period in middle and high school.. Magic Slippaz was a joke basketball nickname that stuck.. and Shmildo was an asshole. Also had an unused nickname "the dutchess" for being british.. I obviously didn't like that one and it never really stuck, partly because I'd get violent.

My name was permenately changed from William to Bill by my nickname, and Stae and Slippaz still go by their nicknames as well. I havn't spoken to Shmildo in a long time so who knows.

couple other nicknames from other people I knew growing up: Squables, Finkis, Scrub, Fish, T-cup and some others I can't remember

  9. I'm sure this is going to be one of the dumber questions asked, but I'll ask anyway..

Fired a few ar-15s (mainly bushmasters).. but I went to a private range and my friends dad had an old "pre-ban" colt ar-15 (.223, guess thats a given). It wasn't the prettiest thing I've ever seen, but I guess looks can be decieving. I took it and pulled the trigger and all I hear was a wierd spring clanging noise (I guess with my head resting on the stock it was all I could hear with my earplugs in).. I assumed it was some sort of jam (the gun looked worthy of jamming and hadn't been cleaned in years), but was amazed to find out it had fired.. and on target.. Finished the mag and it felt like firing an airsoft rifle.. The gun is sort of a family heirloom, nobody seems to know much about it.. The wierd clanging noise was there on every shot, and frankly sounded terrible. Was firing wolf FMJ.

After I was done I saw my friend go to use it.. he took one shot, looked confused, and also checked it for a jam.

Again I'm sure this is going to turn out to be a stupid question, but I have no idea what the hell was going on.

  10. kinda off topic but Jake.. I couldn't help but notice pickens county.. you use the liberty gun range at all on fridays? If you seen a guy with a tacticooled ak-47 on the range that'd probably be me. Saw a guy with a saiga .223 once out there.. custom paint job, laser, flashlight, red dot, tripod.. was that you? can't say I remember the guy so much as the gun so I can't remember too well

  11. my firebird was made in canada... but I do like supporting american company ingenuity.. (Toyotas' not bad, but those over americanized "oh gravy!" truck guys will tell you it "aint no picnic either" comericials piss me off in a big way.. but then that obnoxious northern OK? guy for ford is just as annoying, outa make that crap regional, all ford is doing with those comercials is pissing off a lot of southeners round here with.)

  12. it's been said more or less.. But I just want to stress that a conversion itself is nothing more then moving the trigger to it's intended position.

The customizations you will see on this forum are NOT part of the conversion, although you will likely need to do some customization after the conversion to stay 922 compliant (need a certain amount of american parts), though this can be by replacing interior workings or exterior parts with identical USA made parts..

edit: an american made folding stock would also count as a compliance part and that plus the fire control group (FGC) necesary for your conversion would put you several steps towards 922 compliance
