  1. a while back my friends and I recently picked up three 91/30s from classic arms- two hex (mine was a tula, actually ordered it for my dad for his birthday (and a few days on the range before I surrenderred it) and he was very pleased with it) and one non-hex.. All of them had pristine bores.. wood work was a bit shoddy in some places (and part of the tula bolt was from Ishmaz wereas the non tula hex's bolt/mechanism was entirely Tula, only the numbers on the non hex matched) , but the damn things were under 100 bucks and 80 years old.. Again, the bores look to be perfect (which is all I cared about).. One of my friends stuck a bit after shooting (probably 1/15 shots) but after a night messing with it (don't ask me what he did) it came out in great shape the next time.. Someone on this forum had recommended classic arms and I have to say I was really pleased with the three I've seen from them.

Only wierd thing was the two hex's were meant to be from the same storage crate, but the tula hardly had any preservatives on it (whatever that craps called) where as the other hex was covered..

Accuracy was good at 100 yards.. I don't tend to measure MOA's because I generally just screw about with different guns and different targets (and zeroing my AKs red dot was priority that day), but my brother came along (was his third time shooting ever, and first on a real range) and he hit the paper on iron sites at 100 yards every time but one (paper being standard printer paper size).

(I'm not sure if I stayed in guidelines or not since I'm saying I liked classic arms's gun and that might be advertising.. I'll keep watching this post and if someone tells me to edit I will.)

Edit: and my whole post is officially pointless because I didn't read the entire page (sorry  ).. But I'm glad to hear you went with CA and got a nice gun!

  2. all my grandad got from the japs was a bunch of torture (kept him alive since he was a doc though).. and some pictures from a hidden camera.. but those are not fun to look at.. caused some hell for warcrime japs tho postwar... I'd hang on to those guns if I were you, was a crappy experience for all, but we need to remember it and honor what they did.

  3. only put slugs through mine once at a friends 50 yard range vs a fridge.. it didn't stop for the fridge... at all.. put some huge fricken holes through it.. can't speak for grouping because I honestly was just screwing around for kicks and didn't measure or anything, but they went where I aimed them pretty reliably, can't give you MOA's or anything, but after unloading a clip of 10 as fast as I could, there were 10 closely grouped/overlapping massive holes in one side and out the other.. Was a bit suprised because I was more messing around for recoil and noise with my friends then concentrating on aiming it, sorta one of those "hey yall watch this" moments.. I think I could take out any animal you listed at 100 yards without much problem in accuracy.. but my local range doesn't allow slugs so I havn't manage to run a real test..

  4. I wouldn't be too afraid of either the .223 or the x39 for a concern about variety- it's a different gun regardless than either an SKS or an AR. Also, I personally don't feel that the 5.45 is different enough from the .223 to consider the margin of variety worth the trouble over the ammo stocking frustrations of having two very simular and completly incompatible guns (someone can correct me if I'm wrong, I havn't fired the saiga in .223, only ar-15s). As far as weight they are all going to be pretty simular since they are all based on the same design.. I havn't pulled out the scales to weigh them, but thats because I've never really felt the need, someone might be able to answer that better then me.. the barrels, gas systems, bolt size/pistons vs pucks are the main differnces that come to mind, but I don't know that they are enough to be significant when you consider that the materials and reciever are essentially the same.. Also it kind of depends on what HGs and stock you throw on it since theres a huge variety..

  5. there are people here with far more experience than me, so I'd value their opinions higher.. But from my own experience... 12 gauge all the way!!!

Yeah ok, that wasn't a choice..

Personally I like the 7.62 the most. .308 is sweet but the ammo costs are kinda crappy. And I don't really like much thats smaller then a 7.62.. But that's personal preference.. .223 can be easier to manage and all.. I just don't like the round much.. little too light for my tastes, but the army would disagree and they know more then me (seems no military really thinks that a 7.62 is superior to a 5.45 or .223 nowdays, and they probably have good reason). Guess it comes down to what you want.. I'm going to say 7.62 everytime because I've fired them all and I think its the best and most enjoyable bang for the buck (but I like a little bit of managable recoil and talking shit to my friends with ar-15s about their tiny rounds). it doesn't have the cheapest ammo, but it's affordable, and I prefer it.

And if you asked this question on an ar-15 forum I'm pretty sure you'd get a very different answer then I think your likely to get here.. ".223 is faster.. blah blah blah".. To which my biased response is "not if it's suppressed and has to use sub-sonic" and the debate goes on. But as this is first and foremost a 12 gauge forum, it might be more balanced then either a diehard ar-15 or ak-47, although I expect a good amount of people are going to be ak fans and lean towards the 7.62.. Just my thoughts.. Probably best you find someone who owns both, I don't have a saiga .223

  6. all helpfull, my buddy wound up finding something more or less fits yalls description. It works pretty well- some kit that came from some mosin forum dealer that mounts a pistol scope onto the old iron sights costs like 160 (with scope).. I don't want to give more info because then it would kind of be advertising.

note: editted heavily because my original post seemed a bit too off topic/unrelated

  7. Ah, well I wasn't worried for the dogs, love dogs myself but if they arn't cared for and a menace, sometimes the solution sucks (it's crossed my mind more then a few times, but I couldn't get away with even yelling at them here.. some neighbors are lame). Was more worried that you'd wind up in a fix, but if thats not the issue :killer: have fun. And sorry about my ignorance of .40 gas holes.. still might be the spring though.

  8. seems like a steady flow of goods news, let hope it continues!

Just keep in mind guys, once you kill this crap, stay on top of it with check ups and whatever your Dr. recommends... Lots of cancer related deaths are from people who were essentially "cured" and burried it in their past only to have to fight the fight again later.. Beat this sucker and then make sure it doesn't come back.. I'll keep on praying for yall, I know I can't fully understand how much it sucks but that just makes me admire your determination all the more. Looking forward to any and all videos of cancer vs slug/shot.

  9. I got stuck on the part about the dogs..

anyway with all your posts I'm probably just saying stuff you already know, but I'll try anyway.. First it outa be set to 2 for lighter rounds if your having FTE, second you outa look at the posts about looking for the gas holes.. On my gun when you look in it looks like only one hole, but if you feel close to the edge of the circle with a safety pin you can find two more.. If you only have one it might need work and you can send it in for repairs.. Also, if it's been working well all this time it could be related to another part of the gun- like the spring. I think that firing high brass on setting 2 can cause damage to the spring so that it doesn't work as it used to. That would be my main guess anyway, if it's been working fine and it's well cleaned, the holes havn't changed, so I would think the spring is probably damaged (might look fine but could still be overcompressed- I'm sure that's the wrong word but I can't think how else to describe it).. Anyway hope that helps.. And I'm still confused about the shooting dogs part, seems like that's a good way to wind up in trouble, even if they are irritating

  10. Azrial.. I've always respected nearly everything you've had to say.. but it is true that the .410 does meet the qualifications to satisfy some consumers, and frankly.. that's what matters.. I'm a 12 owner, and I'm of the same opinion on self defense as you (hence why I own the 12.. I do believe it's more effective).. which is why I own a 12.. But I really reckon a .410 is efficient enough to stop most thiefs and the cut in price is definately a bonus worth considering. Again.. it really comes down to the fact that having to use one is a rare occasion for the average civilian, and in most home defense (not police situations) the difference between a .410 and a 12 is dead attacker and REALLY dead attacker.. I really doubt anyones gonna fuck with someone who has a .410, especially after they've been hit by one.. I prefer my 12, but I really think the .410 will get the job done in home defense... Please don't hold it against me too much, before I made my account I watched this forum a good bit and I've really respected your opinions, especially given your experience with the police and your resolve to be an efficient officer who not only protects but respects our rights, but I really reckon in this case a .410 will do what is asked of it, maybe not as effectively as a 12, but effective enough.. Hell, it beats what most have for home defense, and it's damn affordable.. and a semi auto.. Considering the taurus judge (.410 capable pistol for those who don't know) is hailed as one of the BEST in car defense available, I feel a semi automatic with a bigger ammo capacity will do the job fine in most homes. Yes, odds say that with infinate repetition someone will die because they had a .410 instead of a 12 and they missed the shot in the critical situation and perhaps the 12 might of made a difference enough.. But odds are that's probably not the case for most individuals and the .410 is not only a sufficient but an afforadable and effective home defense weapon..

And if my spellings fucked up.. cheers.. I'm drunk, knock back a beer for me.. or whatever.. its fucking 11 on a friday.

  11. I think ultimately this can be summed up in that the .410 is inferior to the 12 for home defence, and thats not a big deal.. a 12 is inferior to a bullet proof robot armed with lazer beams comin out of its ass too.. Point is.. is a .410 sufficient? Probably.. It can kill, and it's probably better then what your attacker is going to be carryng.. It's not as effective or powerful as a 12.. but it's probably going to do the job and do it well..

Think the biggest problem here is buyers remorse on both sides.. When you spend a lot of money you want to believe you made the one and only right choice, but there isn't one right choice for everyone. For someone on a budget or someone who isn't the strongest person out there who recoil might be a worry.. the .410 was the right choice.. You saved money, hopefully you won't have to use it anyway, and if you do, your probably more armed then your attacker.. Hit him and he's not going to be feeling great anyway.. hit him a few times on semi auto and he's not a problem anymore.. Good! For people who bought the 12.. yup we spent a bit extra, the gun is more efficient for home defense.. hopefully we won't have to use it... (by use it I mean for home defense). I'm not entirely happy that my home defense gun costed more then yalls, but it was worth it to me.. and I'm sure getting a cheaper .410 was worth it to yall, and we're all probably going to be just fine and never have to use them anyway.. As for the police and military, they are in a line of work defined by combat, they are obviously going to want the more effective defense choice rather then the more economical since they are far more likely to use it several times for combat (against people tougher then your typical break and enter) and they need the edge and advantage a 12 provides rather then be concerned with prudent spending..

The problem is people tryng to convince themselves that

    1) My .410 is just as good as a 12 for home defense because I want it to be regardless of reality! It's just as effective as a weapon!

    or

    2) My saiga 12 can kill people a .410 can't.. I want to justify the additional money I spent on it, so anything less can't do the same job with any sort of effectiveness!

Both are BS (and extremes that are used to prove a point, not saying anything is actually 100% of either mindset).. but it really comes down to what you want in the first place. I think we all realize a 12 is more effective, but a .410 does have considerable strength, enough to take down the bad guy, and won't break the bank.

Funny thing is.. I realized if I had got the .410 as my main HD gun, I would defend my decision by making fun of a friend with a 12 for spending more money.. Whereas currently I give my buddy a bit of grief for having a 20..

Frankly it probably would have been smarter for me to go with the .410.. but I want the 12 because its "better" in my opinion even if better simply is the difference between dead invader, and really dead invader and me having no money left to buy all the other crap I want..

    but ultimately...

I still want a bullet proof robot with lasers..
