  1. Here's the slotted flash hider I got for my Saiga-12. I tried to match the slotted barrel shroud I added. I like how it turned out. smile.png

Does it have any functionality as a flash hider or muzzle brake or is it just for looks?

  2. I have the from Russia with love GK-01 on my S12, I have not done any real tests, but I will tell you it does make a diff.

When  I bump fire without the brake on the muzzle will rise, put the brake on and I get no rise.

And yes I shoot buck shot, slug and bird shot out of the GK-01.

That's crazy. It's seems like shot would be hitting the inside of the brake for sure, especially one that long, but I guess not.

  3. Finally got mine! Added a few extras

    Current issue rpk sling

    Rpk 74 FH

    Md Molot grip

That thing is bad to the bone dude! I want those handguards. Where did you get that sling? I wonder why they are only importing them in 5.56?

  4. hunting as well. I know some states don't allow hunting with FMJ

Can you legally hunt with 5.45x39? (deer or hogs for instance) I know some states require that hunters use at the very least a .22 caliber. Isn't 5.45x39 technically a .21 caliber? Obviously you wouldn't hunt deer with something like .22LR though. I'm pretty sure that's illegal everywhere because it's considered inhumane.

  5. Try putting a small drop of Kroil or PB directly on the crack and see if it gets drawn in. I'm betting it's either a scratch or a tool mark though.

I think you're right. I tried what you suggested and the oil doesn't get drawn in. Great idea BTW, glad I thought of it. wink.png

  6. I noticed something on my new Vepr when installing the bg the other day that has me a little concerned. On the front trunnion, there is a line that starts about 2" in, from the rear, and goes to just under where the gas tube starts.

It's hard to tell if it's just a surface scratch or something deeper. I'm hoping to God it's not a crack! My Saigas don't have this in that area. Maybe Molot uses a different machining method that causes that mark on the trunnion. At least I'm hoping it's something like that.

Anyone else's Vepr have this mark on the front trunnion?

  7. I've done a bunch that went easy and then one that was PAIN. Broke two taps in it. First one, I was finally able to break out and the second one I was able to break out as well but it wasn't easy. I could only get about 1/2 a turn before they would bind. I think the drill bit was not the right size. Opened it up a bit larger and re-taped it and it worked fine.

What size did you eventually drill/tap it that worked?

  8. Steel weighs less than lead. When you replace steel with lead the weight increases to keep the same profile. Lowering the grain weight would require the addition of a lighter metal or plastic (like a V-max).

That makes sense. I had forgotten that 7N6 has a mild steel core while the others are lead. (doh!) Also, one would think a round like the V-max would have a higher velocity than something like, say GT. However, the chronos I've seen on YT state otherwise, which I'm not sure why. The V-max got like mid to high 2700's, while the GT got high 2800 to mid 2900.The GT is 1gr. lighter, but that's negligible.

  9.

Has anybody compared GT to 7N6 at 200 yards?

Since 7N6 il lighter (53gr) than GT (59gr), maybe 7N6 doesn't drop as low as GT does.

Unless GT is loaded hotter than 7N6 - which I strongly doubt - it's a simple matter of physics. GT will drop lower, just like Monarch did in my shooting yesterday.

What's up with all this watered down current production 5.45 ammo? Some of it is downright anemic. Also,it seems they all use a heavier bullet than the 7N6 for some reason. I would like to see some offerings in 53 gr. or even lighter, maybe 50 gr.

  10. That's strange. It always seemed to me like SG blew through what they had every time it was available.

That's what I was thinking. SG had some in stock I think maybe a few weeks ago and within a matter of days it was GONE. I was tempted to buy some even though I don't currently have a rifle in that caliber. haha.gif
