  1. Do a restoration to pistol grip and use a solar tactical kydex paddle: Here is my Kalifornia compliant "featureless" build with pre-ban high cap.

Thanks for the input but, once again, I cannot have a pistol grip in CA with a detachable magazine. I would need to install a fixed, top-loaded magazine or a magazine lock such as a bullet button. Also it would appear that you have a flash suppressor or muzzle brake installed. That is also considered an "evil feature". Sigh, am I speaking English? What is that paddle for? Isn't that a holster?

I think you misread Rangemasters post! That pic is of a rifle he has in CA (I am here too)! That rifle complies with CA law. It is not by definition a pistol grip(ie you cannot wrap your thumb around the grip)! You can have free droping mags of 10+ rounds(assuming you owned them prior to the ban) in this configuration!

You may learn much about CA laws by joining calguns dot net.

That is good to know. I'm not sure I like the look of that though. It looks hard to handle and kind of ridiculous IMO. Just not for me.

Put a slidefire stock on it.

The bumpfire stock? I can do that without that stock. LoL. Don't need that either.

  2. best i can suggest to ya is....check some of the custom wood makers, i know your wanting something a bit more tacticle but no one i've ever seen makes a sporter stock for the saiga that didnt come with the saiga... except a few i've seen in wood.... now, if you were to take a wood stock, and coat it with rubberised bedliner... it would start to look pretty tacticle...

you are likely the only person in the world looking for a sporter stock that isnt a saiga factory stock....

I highly doubt I'm the only person looking. There are thousands of Californians that own this gun who are not looking to install a mag lock on their guns but want to make upgrades such as this. Thanks for the advice though. I'll keep looking.

  3. Hi All,

I would like to hear some reviews on the Chaos quad rail for the Saiga 7.62 from those of you who have experience with it. What are your impressions? What type of optics and or other devices have you found that work well with the rail? I have ordered one and would like to know what type of optics fit the rail the best and work well for short-medium range. Red dot? Holo? Please offer some suggestions. Much appreciated!

    Thanks!

  4. ......how the hell do you people stand to live there? christ on a cross leave the state to the hippies who want to save the world from toys in happy meals and get the hell out to someplace sane....weirdest bunch of freaks i've ever seen....states fuckin BROKE and blowing bankroll passin stupid gun laws and restricting frikkin happy meal toys....really? REALLY?.... jesus I have no hope for humanity

Yea, well, unfortunately I'm employed here. I agree the gun laws make no sense and the budget crisis has no end in sight. Those things aside it's a great place to live (Northern CA). Wish we would split off and form our own state! Moving is currently not an option. Not to mention I don't think the wife will spring for a move based on my hobby. Anyway, does anyone have any real advice that pertains to the question I asked? It's surprising to me that I can't find what I'm looking for. Maybe I should make one...

  6. Thanks for that reply. However, as far as I know, any pistol grip on a rifle like this one will not be compliant with state law unless a device such as a bullet button has been installed. Regardless, that is not what I am looking for. I am looking for an after-market, conventional style butt stock that is of better quality than the one from the factory and with a more tactical looking design. Thumbhole stocks are not an option either unfortunately. Any suggestions out there?

  7. Hello all,

I am a CA resident and am limited in what I can do to my rifle. I would like to swap out the butt stock that came on the gun for something that looks better and has a more solid feel. In my opinion, the butt stock that came on the rifle feels cheap. I don't want the hassle of installing a bullet button and putting on a pistol grip or collapsible stock. Therefore, my question is this: Are there after-market, conventional stocks out there for sale? I want something that looks cool and is also of better quality. I've looked around a little but no luck finding anything so far. Thanks!

  8. To convert it(better known as restoring it to original AK config) is to basically remove the monte carlo(factory stock). Remove the factory trigger group, move that forward to the original spot(where it should be). Add a pistol grip and new stock. In a nuttshell, there is a tad bit more to it. It would be best to watch this link Saiga rifle conversion. Or do some more searchign around the tech section.

You are in California so you will need to check up on Kali laws, but I think all you need to add is the mag lock.(you will require some kind of key to remove the mags because we all know that saves furry little animals and kids from getting hurt when the gun jumps up grows legs and goes crazy).

On a Saiga rifle you have 14 countable parts(depending if you have a muzzle device), to be 922r compliant you need to make sure you remove at least 4 foreign and add at least 4 US parts during the conversion.

Hope I didnt mix any of that up. GL!

Awesome thanks. Anyone know the law on the magazines in Cal? I know that I can't have a mag capable of holding more than 10 rounds in the gun but is it illegal to just own the mags? They don't sell them here in Cali bigger than 10 rounds.

  9. Saiga rifles have 14 foreign countable parts. You can find plenty of vendors from these forums that sell accessories for your rifle, to convert, or not. You will also find plenty discussion around these forums for ammo deals.

Have you been browsing around? and do you have any questions you have not had found from browsing?

Yes, what does it mean convert it? To an AK? I live in Cali so there's not a whole lot of converting I can do.

  10. Yea,

I've been reading a lot of the 922r stuff. What I don't get is if the Saiga 7.62 RAAC comes legal or if it needs mods to be legal. I bought it from a gun dealer (store) so I would assume they are not selling illegal weapons. It looks 922r only comes into play if I begin converting the saiga to an AK? Anyone?

  11. Hello all,

I'm new posting but have been doing alot of reading and appreaciate all the great info!!

I just purchased a new Saiga 7.62 x 39 made by RAAC from a local gun store. According to the Calguns website, this gun is not on any list as far as being outlawed or listed as an assualt rifle. I live in California and so I want to make sure I'm legit and reduce the likelihood of being hassled by ATF or someone else. I've read so many posts and forums that I'm crosseyed! Many of the discussions are several years old and may be outdated due to new restrictions so......here are my questions....Any help would be much appreciated!!

    1. If I do nothing to rifle is it 922r compliant and otherwise completely legal in CA and other states?

    2. How many "foreign" parts does the rifle has as is? (I read about it needing to have 10 or few foreign parts)

    3. Which parts are foreign and which are U.S. made?

    4. What accessories, if any, can I add to the rifle and still be legal?

    5. Is it illegal just to own magazines larger than 10 rounds or only illegal if they are in the gun?

    6. Are there magazines larger than 10 rounds that are desigined specifically for this rifle. (I don't want to make mods or add a guide or dremel anything) (I know they aren't sold in CA.)

    7. Where is a good place to buy accessories, clips, etc that are made specifically for the Saiga 7.62x39?

    8. What is the best ammo deal out there? Any brand work better than another? Buy the cheapest?

    9. Can I transport the gun across state line? (For example into Nevada, Arizone or Oregon for a camping trip?

    10. Any specific do's or don't for a Saiga newb?

Thanks everyone for your input! Greatly appreciated. Can't wait for my 10 day wait to expire!! 8 more days!
