  1. This thread is not making waiting for Classic Arms to get more chrome Dracos back in stock any easier! Assuming they'll ever get any more, that is. wet_eyes.gif

I know. Now that I have the WANT, and the cash, I can't get one, damnit.

  2.

I, personally, hate the Tapco folding stock. They make awesome products, but I just cant stand the way it feels.

I should have listened to you!

I fired several magazines of buck and slugs from my newly converted S-12, and that Tapco stock puts a beating on the shoulder.

I am 90% done with the build. All that is left is the Chaos extended quadrail, mounting the optic, and a little bit of Alumahyde to carry the "coyote tan" across the gun.

  3. and the thieves are reportedly using 2 trained german shepherds to hold up the homeowners. normally i keep my 870 loaded for HD, but i really dont think im fast enough with it to kill 2 charging dogs, so ive loaded the saiga. granted its with rifled slugs, but im getting more buckshot soon. .... other than that, does anybody know how to fix this?

When the Saiga runs dry, transition to handgun and solve the problem.

Then get the SGM 10 rounders and more buckshot ammo.

  4. As soon as my CHAOS rail gets shipped out, I will remove the factory adjustable bead to install it, and clamp on a red-dot.

However, for wingshooting, and backup, I would like to have a bead up front again. Has anyone ever seen or made a rail mount bead for a Saiga 12?

  5. Thanks for the info on the gas plug. That will definitely be swapped out for an Autoplug or V-Plug soon.

Seems strange that I am going to purposely try to make a gun start jamming.

  6. I took my new, unconverted Saiga out on Saturday for some testing with various rounds I had laying about. I'll post the vid later, but here is my concern:

It ran 100% flawlessly on every round. With the stock gas port set on #1, it fed, fired and ejected every shell I had laying around. 10 year old Federal and Winchester #7, buckshot, slugs, a 3" steel shot magnum or two... it ate everything. I even loaded one 5 round mag with a 3" Magnum, a slug, buckshot, Win #7.5 and Federal #7.5. It fired them all from top to bottom with no hangups as fast as I could work the trigger.

So, now I'm worried. From everything I have read, the low power shells should not work well on setting #1. Is my gun overgassed? Am I just crazy and I should just smile and be happy that mine works so well?

I'm going to start the conversion soon, but I just need to know if there is some action I need to take to make sure this gun lasts.

  7. Finally had a few hours to shake down the S-12.

I had to shoot indoors due to:

    a) the rain

b ) it is an hour drive to the nearest outdoor range

So, since it's indoor, and the targets get close at long range... they don't let shotguns shoot anything other than slugs. Since I needed to function test and make sure it worked at all, I had to run a sizable amount of slugs through it.

    Trepidation-1.jpg

    Fifteen Rounds of slugs.

    impendingpain-1.jpg

You ever get that feeling, "This is going to hurt..."?

I was expecting to have a MASSIVE flinch in short order.

So I pump off the first 5 rounds with the target at 25 yards.

Hey, that was not too bad! Recoil was surprisingly mild. Then I look at the target. No hits.

I fire the next mag aiming high on the target, and get a hit near the bottom of the target. I get two hits to the left bottom, touching. I walk two more hits aiming way off the paper.

So I crank on the adjustable bead.... the wrong way, and the damn thing comes off. I am sitting there in the booth and trying to reassemble the damn thing. It needs 3 hands to do so. So I finally get it back together (with the adjusting wheel upside down to disable the click stops), crank it all the way down, and fire a mag aiming at the center of the target and get 4 hits nicely clustered about a foot low

    notbad.jpg

After screwing with the sight like that and seeing how cheesy it is... This thing is getting a Red Dot. SOON.

Well, it works. Not one failure. Now comes the conversion!

  8.

The ONLY shotgun an educated person can be ABSOLUTELY certain will fire the 2nd round 100 percenct of the time is a double triggered double-barrel shotgun & that's only if the ammo's good.

I had my St3evens 311 SxS 20ga. go belly up on one of the tubes at my last outing with it. Seems like one of the pin springs decided to go belly up on me. Even a double trigger double barrel can fail. Any gun can fail. That's why we train with failure drills!

  9. Thanks for the input. Good point on the Tapco stock- I have not felt/ used one before. I just really like FOLDING stocks over collapsible ones. Plus, I really think that CAR stocks on non-AR pattern guns are... well, strange.

    I'll check the Tromix stock.

Good news, though! I just pulled my gas plug, and I can clearly see THREE ports! I was so worried I was going to get a Vodka special. Granted, I could still have issues, but at least I don't have THAT one.

  10. Thanks guys. I plan on getting it to the range in the next few days just to check function before starting to swap out parts. I'll pull the gas valve tonight and see if I have any ports or not.

I'll start assembling parts and stuff for the conversion over the next few days. Going to go with (probably) the:

CSS Conversion Kit #3: http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-441/SAIGA-12-CONVERSION-KIT/Detail (Coyote with Ergo Upgrade)

Tromix bolt on Charging handle: http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-266/Tromix-Saiga-Ak47-extended/Detail

CSS Vented Forearm: http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-616/SAIGA-12-AR-FOREARM/Detail (Probably spray it with Alumahyde coyote brown)

Quick Release side rail scope mount: http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-147/AK47-SIDE-LOW-PROFILE/Detail

and Primary Arms Micro Green Dot: http://www.primaryarms.com/product.sc?productId=1005&categoryId=419

(I have the same mount and a Burris Fastfire on my WASR AK- keep main operating controls and interfaces the same between the two)

    Suggestions or warnings?

Oh, and Magazines. I need at least one drum and a bunch of mags... And a few 2 rounders for dove hunting :)

  11. saiga1.jpg

My new Saiga is finally home, and starting to find it's place in the gun safe. Nothing special with this one yet- just a standard 19" 12Ga Saiga.....

    Oh, except this part:

    saiga2.jpg

Yep. My Out the door price was under $600.

Now the shopping and converting begins. First thing: Conversion kit!

  12.

The problem is a lot of these newbies are to damn lazy to read, let alone search. Seems some actually want special attention.

Search is kind of hard to do if you have no idea what the part/ malfunction/ problem/ etc... is called. Be kind to newbies.

BTW, I am a newbie on this forum- been lurking for a while, my Saiga 12 will be off layaway soon, and am a mod on another big name shooting sports board. This is something that bothers me is when newbies are slammed because they came to a board to get knowledge from the experts. They may not even know enough to know HOW to ask the question. Be nice to newbies. They are the future of the sport.

  13. As a fairly new user to the Saiga forums, this is one of the things that bothers me as well. Even if the search function worked, what if a new user has no idea what a specific malfunction, part, procedure or term is called? They post a question and get slammed to "RTFM n00b!". Way to welcome new members and possibly new shooters to the sport. With all the positive press that shooting and Saiga 12s are getting these days we need to remember that we are all ambassadors of the shooting sports. Be nice, and post a link if it is a question that has been answered.
