  1. Let me start by saying I really don't know anything about sights and optics (other than how to look through them) so any answers need to be un-technical, or at least have a good explanation of the technical details. Telling me that scope A has .06 better thingamajigs won't help me unless you tell me what thingamajigs do... smile.png

My first question would be, is there really any reason to put anything other than iron sights on a Saiga 12?

I see a lot of people putting red dot sights on theirs, but what does that really accomplish other than looking cool? And is there really much of a difference between one red dot to another that would be relevant in this application. I mean, it is a shotgun after all. I guess durability could be an issue...

My gun has a quad rail, so the existing iron sights are covered, although you can see them if you look under the top rail. This isn't the best setup though, so I'd like to either put new iron sights or something fancier on top. I'd prefer not to have to weld anything, but I have a Tromix monster break on the front so just clamping a front sight on wont' work. Would it work to mount a front sight on the top as far forward as possible? Do they make iron sights that clamp on to rails? I have the side mount rail with both side and top rails, that I'm not currently using but could use to mount stuff to.

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

I have the chaos titan quad rail with HK sights but the HK sights are low profile, so if you have a large break you might want to go with a different design. The advantage to having a red dot and iron sights is for quick target acquisition. Couple it with iron sights in case your battery dies, quick detach red dots are cool like that, where if youre using your saiga and batteries die, you can quickly remove the your optic and fall back on iron sights. if you have a large break you might want to look at flip up style irons.

I just put my order in for a duracoat design. I can't wait to post pictures once its all done.

I made sure this was a design that has originality

yeah i figured maybe i could start a trend and adhere to the thread topic

  3. Is it possible to bump fire and be accurate ? To actually make it useful or is bumpfiring just for show ? I want to be able to bump from the shoulder and control when and how many it fires ! Anyone got any pointers ?

    Thanks

slide fire solutions came out with a buttstock that allows you to bumpfire from the shoulder. so far i believe it is only for ar-15s. its called the ssar-15, they have videos on youtube.

  4. I can't believe you would dog out Glock while drinking XD kool aid. Kinda splitting hairs there. How long has springfield been making polymer pistols? How many departments are currently carrying xd's?

    PS - I didn't vote

#1) I dont fully trust the safety on the Glock's and i think that Springfield improved it by added the 2nd grip safety to their gun, making it seem much safer in my eyes.

#2) Just because LE Depts. are carrying glocks, doesnt make them the best! it just means they got the best price on them!

#3) If i had a Dollar for everytime i heard that "Glock is the best" I could buy out the company! Im just so sick of hearing "Glock this" or "Glock that" that i refuse to ever buy one! I work with a TON of people that preech on all day about Glock and thats the ONLY gun they have ever shot, and have ZERO experience with anything else! I dont know why the Military arnt carrying the XD's yet.

Again, no disrespect but after my explanation above, maybe you can see why i feel the way i do about Glock.

simple: military and police forces wont carry XD's because when they need to use their firearms they dont have time to disengage 2 different safety features to save their life or the life of a victim or partner.anyone carrying a firearm and handling it properly do not have to worry about a standardized safety. carry a glock 22 .40 cal daily 15+1

  5. Hey guys whats up, I've been lurking around the site her for a little bit learning, reading, etc and i must asy that this is a great site, and even though i currently do not have a saiga 12 i've learned a tremendous amount about the fire arm etc. Well i have been into firearms for years, and have a very, very small amount of firearms. Well I was deciding a while back between a new AR-15 and a Saiga 12 I went with the AR-15, I really love that gun, but i'm still drooling at the mouth for one of these lead-slinging beasts. Apparently i've waited to long to due to funds with the ATF trying to possibly ban these is there anyone (dealer) that you can place one on a layaway program for a little while..? cause i want to lock one in before they are banned, or whatever the ATF rules, can anyone help a fellow enthusist out, anyone know of any dealers, etc..?

    Thanks Guys.

i actually talked to the BATFE today and spoke to a really nice guy name Mike Kooney. There is no ban coming for the SAIGA-12. As long as they come into the country stock with standard 5rnd mags there isnt an issue. There is a price flux right now because of the report that atf released which is just a scare and reason for dealers to hike prices, so by the time you have the money, they should be cheaper.

    Documents Man, we need documents!

What he told me the main issue was with the atf study is not so much the gun but the add-ons. Vertical grips, 20 rnd drums, military style stock, etc. etc. which doesnt matter because all of that is made in the USA but forces the "sporting" argument. There not gonna ban saigas but yes I feel your need for documents and hard proof from the shape shifting government. :drevil:

  7. Glad I didnt waste the $5 for parking and stayed home today. Im not impressed with the Tampa gun show at all. There is one guy there that sells pistol pretty cheap. Im pretty sure Shoot Straight sets market value for guns around here and they are super high.

I never buy from shoot straight!! They dont let me conceal in their store!? Ill drive to Florida Gun Exchange in port orange.....im spiteful, but a smart consumer

  8. Depending on the importability ruling, I could see a $399 retail price on Saiga 12s with the number of importers currently authorized to import Saigas.

I'm hoping to find a plane Jane saiga12 for $399 or less anyone know a place that has them?

    Thanks!

Currently not going to happen at that price unless you find one used (private owner or Pawnshop), but odds are not in your favor

The wholesale cost is far more than $399.

everybody is milking this atf study!!!! i dont see any going for less than $700 from a private seller and $750 from dealers!!! this is killing me ever so slowly

  9. I have a g26 and a g22 and always have both chambered. I carried my g26 everyday for about a year and a half until i got my g22 and carry that with me all day everyday. ive dropped 'em, pistol whipped windows out with 'em [ripped my front sight off], and ive never had a problemwith an AD. BTW- that video youre paranoid about is wrong on so many levels. That LE officer is pointing around a loaded weapon in a class full of children and didnt follow a couple of the basic safety rules of pistol handling and that's what caused his firearm to discharge, so........FORGETTA 'BOUT IT! :smoke:

  10. This is my Romanian WASR and the second one that i have refinished. When purchased the wood is pretty rough on them, but as you can see you can really spruce 'em up with little effort and little out of pocket. As for the sights you can get sight tools for $15. Ive never had a problem with jamming and fully support these rifles! :killer:
