  1. Sorry I haven't replied but I hadn't gotten to play with this project for a little while. But I found that the trigger hole actually sits .020 inches too low in the receiver and I think that is what is causing the problem. I have another flat that I bent and my Saiga 20 for reference and the trigger from my Saiga 20, also a Tapco G2 has the same problem in this receiver. All in all I think for safetys sake and legalities sake I'm going to scrap this receiver and bend another one. The other flat I bent (an AK builder flat) with my homemade jig came out nice and the holes all came out perfectly but the Tapco flat didn't seem to like the jig or I screwed up somewhere in the process. Anyways thanks for the help guys I do appreciate it.

  2. As i said before I have a Tapco single hook hammer trigger sear group that is not setting properly. I have never fired this weapon yet in fact it is not even finished being built but I noticed that if I cycle the bolt the hammer and trigger will reset properly or so it would seem. If I cycle the bolt with the trigger pulled back the sear does not catch the hammer and the hammer will follow the bolt. This is bad very bad and I want to know if anyone has ever had to deal with this issue before and how to fix it.

  3. I have one of the Tapco folders on an AK-47, and to be honest I'm not too impressed with it. The stock broke at the hinge when it was carelessly knocked off the bench and hit the ground. Also the e-clamp that retains the pin and spring in the hinge was lost in the same occurrence and I haven't been able to properly reattach the stock. I managed to glue the stock back together with some high strength epoxies but I haven't gotten to put the whole thing back together yet. On another note the stock is almost two inches longer than the standard synthetic stock that Tapco offers so if you are going for a shorter length or like shorter length rifles or you have short arms I might take that into consideration.

This is not a negative review against Tapco in any way. I didn't try to send it back for replacement as I had already tried to fix it myself before I ever even considered sending it back. I have never before had any issues with anything Tapco has ever sent me and they have always given the best of customer support in my book.

  4. I honestly did not know how much the Saiga trigger sucked until I put a Tapco G2 trigger group in mine. Once I dropped it in I noticed just how nice a trigger it can have and it also gives you 3 922 R parts. Well worth the 50.00 IMO.

  5. If you are waiting to buy a Saiga 20 with domestically produced mags then you might be waiting a while. I just wrote to the guys at AGP about Saiga 20 mags and here is what they had to say

Unfortunately the 20ga has just never sold in high enough quantity to justify the cost to build tooling. Sorry.

They are a great gun, after you work the bugs out. Mine wouldn't function reliably at all on any form of birdshot until I opened up the gas port.

  6. I've had this finished for a couple of months now. I've had a boatload of trouble getting this shotgun to work properly, mag problems, some ejection problems (it would seem the ejector is not far enough forward on the rail) but mostly issues with the gas system and shot loads. anyways I digress, here is my Saiga 20. All my mags are Franken-mags, the brake was homemade on my mill and lathe as was the vertical grip and I also modified the Halo rail by milling off and/or drilling out the excess material. The Halo Rail is great but it is ridiculously heavy.

PS I edited this post about 3 times to try and get the pic to show up but it won't, what am I doing wrong?

  7. To be honest, from every Century I've ever seen or shot (any make) and read about many over on the Fal Files over the years I've never heard anything good about them. I've had 2 century rifles myself, an FAL clone and a G3 clone, the FAL couldn't hit the broadside of the barn from inside the barn and the G3 took many hours of working on it till it would feed reliably and the trunnion welds on it look like they were done by an inebriated 3rd grader.

In fact the builders of Century guns are frequently referred to as angry beavers. I'd stay away from anything Century makes as a rule. SO as not to get flamed here, I have read about a few good Century rifles.

So I'd say they are not very good.

  8. I am trying to find a saiga .223 around Baltimore. I have called a bunch of stores and have found a few for $350 to 400 but I don't think I should have to pay that much for it. Anyone know where i can find one for 300 or under?

    Any help is appreciated.

Having lived in Baltimore for 8 years now I have noticed that guns are not cheap here. I got my Saiga 20 about 3 or 4 years ago for about 270 from Valley Guns, which went under for paperwork violations, but right next to it has opened up Just Guns. At the time I was looking to pick up a .223 and I noticed those were around 450. Good luck in your quest, but you might end up looking to have one ordered in.
