  1. Stock is either ATI or Ramline. Definitely not 922® compliant from the looks of the stock conversion. There were a few members on SKS Boards who had some original D/M stocks at one time. $450 is about the average price for one.

If it were mine, I'd finish the 922® conversion and rock on with it. SKS is the only rifle I've seen just as reliable as the AK.

Is that a model M or a model D? I don't know the big differences between the two, but everything aside from the stock looks identical to my model M.

The only difference is the D was pre-ban, and still had the bayo/lugs, the M is post-ban and has been neutered.

  2. Actually, I keep 2 in the stable just for simplicity.

1981 Toyota Pickup, 22R/2bbl progressive, 5 speed 2WD, solid rear axle, 3/4T rear springs installed. I swapped the coil out to a regular "tower can", and can run the truck with one jumper wire if the spark controller gets fried. Downside is, I have to remove the wire to shut it off. I've seen this truck go where Jeeps fear to tread around here......in winter.

1979 Ford Ranchero GT, 302/2bbl, AOD trans, 2.75 LSD, 3/4T coil springs under the rear. Again, one wire from coil to battery, and back running. I have an old 289 P/C distributor and adapter harness in the tool box for EMP. 10 minutes, and I'm back on the road. Not a winter road friendly vehicle, but I can dig it. If my gear is back there, it will stay planted.

Just remember......it's the man, not the machine.

  3. My 13 yr old has dished out his fair share of knuckle sandwiches, and he knows TKD(yellow belt). We have been called to the school many times because some bully pushed him one step too far and ended up on the receiving end of a few kicks and punches. Believe it or not, he has yet to be suspended for fighting after the bullies admitted to starting the frays. I told the principal straight up, "If someone hits him first, it's self defense and justified in my book."

The other thing that burns me is this "no score, everybody gets a trophy" crap. My kid tried soccer a couple of years ago, and at the end of the season, everybody got a trophy. I'll admit, his team sucked balls big time. They were in the bottom rung at the end of the "season". They got the same trophy as the rest of the kids. 2 weekends ago, he had a TKD tournament, and took Gold in both Pumsae and Fighting/Sparing(dojo took first place overall). They usually break the sparing up by belt color, then break the belt groups down between 4 mats. Each mat has 3 awards: Gold, Silver, Bronze. Well, this one kid was one of these, "you never hit a girl" types, got paired against a girl, and she mopped the mat with him. She got Silver. My son got his turn, and unleashed on her. She was good, but he got a well-placed kick in right at the buzzer, preventing a tiebreaker. After the awards were presented for their mat, this kid that lost goes all hysterical because he didn't get a prize. His sensei tried to explain to him this was a competition, but the kid wouldn't let up. Was his mom embarrassed? Hell no. She gets in the official's face and reads him the riot act for 1. Pairing him against a girl and 2. Not giving him an award for simply being there. My son's sensei has kicked kids out of his dojo for this.

many of thee OWS goofballs are from the "you are special, here's a cookie" education system. They have been told throughout school to go to college, get a degree, and you can get a 6 figure job. In college, it continues. What they don't tell the kids is that BS degree in why cow shit stinks is worthless in the real world. You just wasted about $200K and 4 years of your life for a piece of paper that says you are book smart, but not street wise.

  4. I have some Tulammo 124gr HP, and did the pin test. you can feel the fail cuts inside the cavity. Contrary to myth, Wolf, Uly, and Tulammo are three entirely separate companies. Wolf even put out a memo on this:

    http://www.wolfammo.com/pdf/WOLF_Packaging_Alert.pdf

I, for one, have had accuracy issues with Wolf out of both my SKS and my Arsenal. As it stands, all my "stacking" ammo is either Tulammo(both FMJ and HP) or Yugo M67. Wolf is reserved for mag dumps.

  5. 154gr Wolf was OK in my SKS Carbine(20" barrel), but sucked balls in my paratrooper(16" barrel). I shot some various SP out of my Saiga to see if it would feed, and found either 123gr Winchester Super-X or 125gr Silver Bear would do the job nicely. 154gr Wolf was worse out of the AK than the SKS Paratrooper. I gave all my Wolf to my cousin when he bought my carbine.

  6. Local guy gets demilled rifles and converts them to airsoft. Last fun show, he had an AK, and AR, and a M240B he'd converted. For what he wanted for the AK alone I could have bought a beater WASR and 2 cases of Yugo surplus.

I still have my original airsoft pistol in my desk. It's made to look like a Beretta .45ACP, and isn't the crappy "space gun" colors, either. I've been put in cuffs a couple of times because it was in the car.

  7. I bought several cases of Yugo M67 last year when it was so cheap for the 1120 on stripper clips for my SKS. My SKS would put that round in a quarter-sized circle at 100 yds, and a 2" circle at 200 yards(as far as I pushed it with irons). I haven't shot it out of my Saiga yet, as Tula has yielded good plinking results so far. Eventually I will, but for now it's still sealed and in storage, and all my GNG(Grab-N-Go) mags are loaded with it.

Wolf is now WPA(Wolf Performance Ammo) after they had a bad run last year that turned many shooters off to it. I had a 500 round case, 2009 dated, and had about 30 duds(no powder) in the case. It cost them mucho business.

Tulammo is a good ammo for plinking or storage. Ever since the Wolf fiasco, I randomly pull 20 rounds from every case and pull the bullets. On the Tula, the powder charges were all consistent.

  8. Saiga? What Saiga? I don't own any guns. Guns are evil and should be banned. We have the police/military to protect us.

No, I've only registered one gun in my lifetime, and glad I did. It was a POS out of the box. A Saiga is an AK. You break it, you buy the parts and grab the largest hammer in the tool box.

  9. It was. A new DPMS Panther 556NATO Oracle was $640 local. The Stag upper is worth $500, and the pre-ban Essential Arms lower stripped has gone for as much as $800 on Gunbroker, being they discontinued OD Green shortly after the ban.

Already picked up a set of RCBS reloading dies for 6.8 just in case. .270 is popular here for deer/elk, so I can get good deals on bullets at times. Local BVAC can get me brass for $40/100.

YHM upper is getting a stainless bolt/gas tube and chrome lined barrel with Specter handguards and Troy sights to back up an Aimpoint. We are going to use the old bolt/barrel to build a backup upper with an old Colt A1 style upper he has laying around.

Wife wants to smack me because I've already "spent" almost $1K on ammo and accessories. She thought my Saiga was bad. haha.gif

  10. My cousin wanted my Mosin and ammo, so we made a swap. Got me a Daly 1911A1 in my hand and an AR on layaway. We poked around, and found a nice one.

Essential Arms pre-ban lower in OD Green with black furniture

Stag arms 6.8 SPC Spec II upper with 2 mags and scope

YHM 5.56NATO upper with 10 mags and Troy Industries flip night sights

Custom Pelican case and Otis cleaning kit

    $650 OTD

I was all over that set-up like white on rice. We hope to have it paid off by Christmas, and he's going to work his magic on the 5.56 upper once we get it. He rolls his own ARs, and knows how to make them hum.

So far, the only downer is the 6.8 SPC ammo isn't cheap. Cheapest I've found is $.75/bang from SSA. However, reloading is a cinch, as it uses the same bullet as the .270 Winchester. DOD has been testing this round as the replacement for the 5.56, and my uncle tells me it looks like it may be a go for Special Forces to start with, then main infantry at a later date.

I'm stoked, and can't wait to squeeze off a few rounds.exciting.gif
