  1. I'd be happy with 3-4" groups at 200.  That's still a deer of elk in the freezer if needed, and good enough for a DMR.

For the M68, my oldest gave me his old 4-16x-40mm scope off his .308.  The 2-6x is tuned for the Saiga, and staying there.

  2. Yeah, Tula is crap.  Only reason I bought a case last week was it was on sale, and makes good range fodder or suppression fire.  I reach for Wolf or Brown Bear mostly.  I picked up several different brands to try in both the Saiga and the M68 this spring, from Arsenal to Fiochhi.  I still have my scoped 50 yd target from last year.

This was initial dial in for a 50/200 zero, 2-6x32mm NcStar, zoom on 6 for spotting purposes.  Ammo was Silver Bear 125grSP(my intended hunting load until I try the Federal Fusion I have) on a Redfield target.

I dialed it back to a 2, slid it off the side rail, popped 5 rounds irons on the 200yd gong(5 hits), scope back on, and did this

This was Tulammo 122gr FMJ, 100yds, irons, offhand standing, 30 round mag, 1 round per second, center hold on 6" paper plate on a 16x20 backer.  The right target was my old AR on American Eagle before I got the hang of the peep.  Notice 3 rounds of Tula on the AR target.

The Tula stayed on the plate until the barrel got hot.  After that, it was all over the place.  Still combat approved, though.

This was 5 rounds of WPA I shot irons at 200 yds offhand standing for giggles.  Backer is 16x20" torso size with a center hold after first 2 flyers.

Not too shabby with my bad eyesight and a combat rifle.

ETA:  I lost my Yugo M67 and BVAC 123gr targets.  The M67 would keep them in a 6" circle at 200yds, and the BVAC was a shade over 4.5".

  3. I was looking at flying out of Atlanta, but its more than flying directly from Birmingham. I'll look into flying into Amsterdam, I wanna check that place out anyway, and I could probably handle a day and a half on a train if I could get my head to right in Amsterdam.

Here's what my supervisor does to avoid jet lag when going to China to visit the factory.  Try to book a redeye flight leaving late afternoon/evening.  Stay up at least 18 hours before the flight.  Eat a good, but not heavy meal before boarding, and avoid fast food.  You'll sleep like a baby for the entire flight(8-10 hours depending on depart/destination).  You'll not only wake up refreshed, but 9 times out of 10, no jet lag for him.

  4. Well, wife did the taxes, and decided she needed a new EDC.  She found a nice Sig P238 Liberty Edition cheap.  While she was yacking with the salesman, I spotted this little guy.  Started haggling, and walked out with it for $650.  Brand new, all part numbers match sans cover, US barrel/receiver/FCG, and appears to be an Ironwood stock.  Sights are straight, RPK adjustable rear sight, and good sight picture.  It came with 2 surplus steel 30 round mags and a Tapco 30 rounder, but no cleaning kit/rod(no biggie....I have a spare G3 pull through kit).  I had an extra AK rod, so I added it simply for aesthetics.  Trunnion is Romy marked and dated 1970.  It also has the adjustable bipod.  Why CAI markets them as Polish we don't know.

The wood appears to be stained instead of shellacked.  Grip is original bakelite, and matches the stock color.

I was going to make a baby Tabuk out of it, but the color/stock has grown on me a bit.  I do plan on an optic rail(given a bolt-on side rail by a member on another forum), AKMN FH(on the way from a guy who custom makes them), and picked up a 75 round drum.

It has a Tapco G2 Single Hook installed, and needed a contact surface polish.  I also had to tweak the top cover a touch on the charging side to get it off the carrier.

The only con I found with it is the finish.  Typical CAI BBQ paint on the receiver, gas tube,  and carrier.  Barrel appears to be parkerized and is chrome lined.  I plan on stripping the carrier and doing a polish job on it and definitely refinishing the receiver this summer.

Took it down the road to a spot, set my 5" gong at roughly 100 yds, and put a few down the pipe.  It would feed HP ammo, but could have done with a slight feed ramp job on the chamber(not touching the chrome, baby).  It feeds them, but nicks the tip just a shade.  It definitely liked the SP and SST rounds I tried.  All rounds fired rang the gong.

    All in all, I'm impressed.
