  1. Without pics, it's tough to tell. Chances are it's one of the factory thumbholes that hook right up. If it's a converted Rifle...the thumbhole stock could be just about anything...

My point is...without pics of the rear of the rifle, dunno what the receiver looks like. Many thumbholes fit a standard receiver, so he can put any ak stock he wants on it...

Is his rifle sporting a real slant cut receiver???

Sorry for the late reply. I am trying to upload pics to share but getting a "Error The server returned an error during upload" message, It is a slant cut, like a thumb-hole Vepr.

  2. Hello you all. I have been a long time fan of Saigas and have never come across a slant receiver Ak (aside from Verps). My buddy just told me he bough a Saiga 7.62x39 thumbhole stocked rifle. Do Vepr stock adapters work on this? What are his thumbhole to real AK stock options? Thank you in advanced.

  3. HAs anyone dumped mags while using this quad rail? If so, did it get crazy hot?
I bought a cheap ebay quad rail ($30) that looks good and feels solid, but when I mag dump just one mag, it gets too hot to touch. Even starts softening rail ladders. Reason I bought the damn cheap rail was because I didn't want to spend allot on a rail to just add a Magpul AFG2. Live and learn.

  4. I just recently bought a used (almost new) Saiga 308. I have used the CSS modified G2 drop-in triggers with success in the past for the S12, 7.62x39, and 5.45x39. CSS's website under "All Saiga 308 Parts" lists this one (link below) but in the description does not states it is for use with the Saiga 308. Should I be concerned it does not have 308 in the description? Has anyone used this one with success in the Saiga 308?

Also, how about that new ALG AK trigger. Anyone tried using it on a Saiga 308 yet? Im sure it will need some type of modification as well. How would need modifying? I have a buddy that can weld so, if material needs to be added, I can have him help me out.

  5. WOW Joe! You did a number on that bolt! Far from a polish job, more like a grinding job.

What bit did you use on the dremmel tool? I used my dremmel on my bolt, but I used a polishing wheel and red jewelers rouge, it shines like chrome and is smooth as silk(well as far as an AK goes), I couldn't be happier with the end result. But my method takes off no measureable amount of metal!

Used a green colored grinding tip stone.

  6. you removed way too much material from the bolt.

additionally, if the mag catch allows the rear of the mag to sit too low, the rifle may fail to strip rounds.

unfortunately, by removing an excessive anount of material from the bolt bottom lug, which is responsible for stripping rounds from the mag, you may have just impacted the reliability of the rifle.

all that is required to alleviate the case gouging is a very light chamfer of the bottom lug sharp edges with a jewler's file. you went way overboard.

if you are lucky, replacing the catch will fix the problem. otherwise you will need a rather expensive replacement Saiga bolt, and the rifle will need to have headspace checked and set if necessary by a professional.

I think I am still in the safe zone (no bolt replacement needed) because if I apply upward pressure on the magazine (taking up the gap I created by over filing) all rounds chamber. THANK YOU LORD! Now if you all would care to read my new post about the magazine spring, that be great. I thank you all for your input on this matter. You all rock!

  7. I have a Saiga 7.62 x 39 and recently installed a RAM extended magazine release. Doing so was a pain, royal pain that I never wished to do again. Due to my stupidity, I filed the magazine latch too much, now rounds don't chamber every time, I need to replaced the extended mag release/latch with a new one. The reason it was so difficulty was due to the springs extreme tension when compressed. It was inhuman! Is there an AK magazine spring that does not required Hercules like strength to install yet still give positive tension against the magazine?

  8. After doing a conversion and having over 800 with no failures, I decided to smooth some bolt areas  because I had trouble cambering the 1rst round on a Tapco 30 round mag and the G2 trigger I had installed, similar to a S12 polish job. Long story short, my Saiga 7.62 x 39 will now fully chamber rounds when facing upward and horizontal. When facing downward, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. The bolt is on the rails like is is supposed to be. Dont see why the bolt would jump over a round vs not doing so when facing up are sideways. Any ideas?

  9. Anyone know the aftermarket parts that fit on a S12 that also fit on a 7.62 x 39?
I really want to clone what I did to my S12 to my newly ordered Saiga 7.62 x 39.
Parts on my S12 I am wondering if compatible are:

    R&R AR15 Stock adapter
    R&R AR15 Pistol Grip Adapter
CSS Tri Rail (Very nice smooth machining)
    RAM Extended Mag Release

Anyone have any experience in adding these to a Saiga 7.62 x 39 ?

  10. A plus for the Izzy 8 to me is that it actually holds 9 rounds. 8 can be loaded on a closed bolt. The other plus is the strength, the quality is unmatched.

    Where did u get yours?

From a member here in the want to sell section. But stay out of there....everything there is all mine! muahaha!anger.gif JK smile.png

  11. Look up the thread DistalRadius did on xrays he performed on factory Izhmash mags. Note the internal steel reinforcements embedded in the polymer, on critical points on the magazine. Think of possible scenarios in which magazine failure might result from breakage at those points, on SGMs, AGPs, etc- striking the bottom of the mag on the corner of a wall or furniture while moving quickly under stress, for example. Mike Davidson has similar reinforcement in his drums, but as of yet, none of the available US-made polymer stick magazines do.

Don't get me wrong, I love me some AGPs too, but they aren't what go in my gun for non-fun use. YMMV.

Do you all use any mags for HD (Home Defense)?

My vote for the best HD mag is a factory mag.

Factory is definitely the way to go but the 5 rounders leaves me desiring more round count. Id love the 8 rounder but the sources ive seen are depleted on their stock and dont re-up :/

  12. I ve read people do this on the SGMT’s, this would give a higher spring tension but would you all recommend a standard 10 round stick (I had a JTE magwell) or a 12 rounder cut down to a 10? I want the mag(s) for HD and want the best reliability from this brand at a 10 shotshell count.

Wouldn’t the higher spring tension (12 to 10 rounder conversion) deform the top shot shell when stored for a prolonged period?

What do you use for you long term HD mags?

  13. Skip the epoxy. I've been told by a guy who knows his stuff that using a soldering iron at low temp with the hot knife attachment, you can build up or weld magazines with shavings from your OEM stock as fill material. I have been meaning to do this with one of my magazines that has worn a bit looser than I like.

Oh wow. I still have my old stock looking at me with displeasure. Id like to put it to use lol. Nice vid on the loading the S12 with or without bolt profiling. If I would have seen this before I bought my magwell, you may have possibly convinced me to stay stock. Ill look into it. I already own a soldering iron, dont think I can change the temp though. Its an all or nothing cheap and old type.
