  1. I have a couple hundred 2 1/2" shells that I'm interested in shooting in the Saiga 410. I haven't tried shooting them out of the factory magazines which are designated for 3 inch shells. Does anybody know if they will work in factory 3 inch magazines? Are there any 2 1/2 inch magazines available? If so, please let me know were I can find them because I have looked extensively and not found any on the Internet. Thanks all.

  2. I just purchased the kushnapup kit and I have to admit that I don't see any way to make it work.  The screw hole for the front forearm does not line up with the screw hole in the kushnapup.  So there's no way to attach kushnapup frame to the barrel.  See attached a photo.  Any suggestions?

I just found a thread that addresses this same situation so, it looks like I have a lot of grinding and fitting to do.

  3. I want to do a bull pup conversion and it requires a unconverted shotgun to start with. I want to use the 410 because it's primarily going to be used by my wife for home defense. At the moment I have a converted 410 but it is awkward for her to maneuver in tight spaces. I'm not interested in buying a new one because the prices have skyrocketed from the mid-300s to the mid-600s or more. If anybody knows of a bullpup conversion that can be used on a converted shotgun then that would be great.

  4. I'm going to try shooting some stronger ammunition and see what happens. I definitely agree that polishing-reprofiling the internal parts will make a lot of difference.

I don't believe I can put it back to the sporting configuration even if I wanted. I don't believe converting it has any effect on how it cycles. Anyway, I thought I was putting it back to 'normal' when I converted it. 032.gif

breaking in by shooting can work. you might consider a re-profile of your bolt and hammer. then polish of the bolt, carrier, rails and hammer face. it really makes a world of difference.

smooth running internals require less gas to cycle.

have you or are you going to convert it back to normal ?

  5. So what you're saying is the factory plug has no relief cut for the #1 one position? We checked the ports with a paperclip and they seemed to be fine. I am pretty sure we followed the instructions correctly and a settings were easily readable. Per the instructions the puck has to the letters facing the piston. I suspect that either the ammunition was not 'hot' enough, or it needs to be broken in more. I am going to order some OOO' or OO' shells and hopefully that will do the trick.

your factory plug looks good to me. i use the v-plug on my s-12.

have you checked the ports with an angled pick or bent paper clip?

were you following the v-plug instructions? for me the settings can be difficult to read. i scored the full open and full close with a file.

is your puck facing the correct way in the gas block?

  6. I might have a problem with my 410. On the first outing we shot 40 rounds in Remington #6 express long-range and 50 rounds of Winchester #6 expert game loads (all 3"). Nothing would cycle on the #1 setting. So I chalked it up to it being a brand-new shotgun needing breaking in. But after putting 90 rounds through it it wasn't happening. Everything shot just fine using #2. I removed the plug-in checked and there seems to be plenty of 'powder residue' in tube so the ports are not clogged. When I removed the Factory Gas adjustment knob I noticed that there was no notch for setting #1 I'm attaching a picture, maybe somebody can tell me if it's supposed to be like that. Anyway, I ordered the MD ARMS V Plug and Gas Piston (Plug). Went back out for another test. And we shot:

    #4 3" Winchester Sup X High Brass (50ea):

    #4 3" Golden bear (5ea)

    Slugs 3" Silver Bear (8ea)

    #6 3" Remington Express (25ea)

Using the new MD Arms plug-in piston, NOTHING would cycle on #1 (FTE, couldn't even tell if the slide moved) or #2 (FTE, stove piped) only the #4 Winchester would cycle reliably using #3, everything else needed to be set at #4 for reliability.

Maybe I am just using weak ass ammo!

  7. Hello all,

Not sure where to post this but here goes. I've never done this before but I decided to give it a shot. I am paralyzed Vietnam veteran and basically bedridden due to an automobile accident in 2003. I look for projects to keep my mind occupied and in a positive place. My wife and I work together, she does most of the physical stuff (and takes care of me) and I take care of everything else that I can using the computer. Thanks to a voice recognition program I can navigate my way around the Internet and do research and get information from various sources, i.e. this forum!

We just finished converting a .410 for home defense and it came out just fantastic! Now that it's finished I am looking for our next project. Since my wife and I are basically on a fixed income (my Social Security check) I'm hoping that somebody has a used Saiga laying around that I can purchase for a reasonable price or, they would like to donate for a worthy cause

Thank you all for your consideration, Paul (Themajickman)

  8. Yes all the failures were FTE. Worked extremely well on setting 2. I don't think I had any real powerful 3" shells so I'm going to try again with some hot loads and see if it makes a difference. I'm also ordering a MD ARMs adjustable gas plug to see if that helps. It's real hard finding any 3" shells around my area except at Wal-Mart, and their selection sucked. It's becoming more obvious that the 410 ammunition is both expensive and hard to find. If you buy it online the shipping makes it ridiculously expensive

  9. My wife and son took the 410 out to a friends farm this weekend for its maiden outing. Very impressed with it. Nothing seemed to cycle correctly on setting 1. Everything worked fine on #2. We shot about 90 rounds and hopefully once it's broke in it will begin cycling on number 1. Here is a short video of it that I have posted on YouTube. Enjoy

  10. It seems like a lot but, I chose the 410 because the 12 gauge was just too much for my wife and couldn't find a 20 gauge for a reasonable price in the correct configuration. At the end of the day the whole thing (410+ parts) ended up costing right around $700. The barrel shroud was the most expensive item, but it looks cool 027.gif

Wow, that's a lot of stuff on a s410! Congrats on your conversion.

  11. February 22: while my wife tried her best she was unable to complete the conversion process. The BHO lever and spring were just too much so I had to contact my son. He came over and in about an hour finished up the conversion. I like it but I'm thinking about getting a different stock because the ATI seems to be a bit too long because it has the folding feature. Going with one that adjusts and doesn't fold might be the ticket. Here's a picture of how it turned out. I'm still missing the muzzle shroud which should arrive in the next couple of days.

Edit to add picture of shroud

  12. I'll definitely try to get some photos posted. My understanding is that there are factory 8 round 2 1/2" mags but, like you say they are real scarce. I don't see any aftermarket company making them because the demand probably isn't there. Much more interest in the 12gauge than the 410.

    Cool! Please post photos.

I love my .410, except for the cost of ammo.

I wish SGM (or someone) would produce some 2.5" mags. The factory ones are like hen's teeth.

  13. I'd like to document the conversion process of my wife's Saiga .410

    January 5, 2012: Joined Saiga-12 forum

January 19, 2012: I bought a 410 as a belated Christmas gift for home defense. Of course it was a prime candidate for a conversion. I have gotten lots of information and help from this forum so I feel confident we can do it.

Here's what I've decided to go with

    · ATI 6 position folding stock

    · Hogue pistol grip

    · Tromix modified G2 FCG

    · JTE Hammer Mainspring

    · Tromix Both on Charge Handle

    · CCS Trigger Guard

    · Alumalite Barrel Shroud

    · SGM 10 Round Magazine

    · Factory 10 Round Magazine (need because the SGM won't handle some 3" ammo)

    added: 02/21

    • UTG Quick detach double rail scope mount
    • Red/Green Dot sight 30mm, 2 MOA
    • 5mw Red Dot Laser (remote pressure switch)

February 15, 2012: So, I think we have everything we need now the conversion is in progress. It's an interesting experience for me talking my wife through the individual steps. Even though she's never done much mechanical work herself she's seen me do it (all the information and videos on YouTube helps a lot).

February 18, 2012: she field stripped the 410 and removed the butt stock and forearm.

February 20, 2012: drilled out the two rear pins and removed the FCG components, BHO and safety lever. Needed a Band-Aid, main Spring bit her finger...
