  1. Guess I'll have to get more specific. My experience has been that my Molot mag will not lock up in my Saiga-12 ver. 030 without modification. When I stated they don't work, based on my experience, I meant WITHOUT MODIFICATION out of the box. I figure if your going to spend that kind of money on a mag, you might as well get the one that is specific to the firearm. My Izzy magwell mags worked like a champ right out of the box without one bit of modification. Oh, and btw, I personally don't care if an Izzy S-12 magwell mag fits in a Molot Vepr-12 since I'm not interested in owning one anyway. They may fit. I don't know. O.K., I think that about covers it for me. I'm out of here and off to some other thread of greater interest.

  2. I received my magazines today. They were packed horribly.... The flat rate box was crunched (but not torn) pretty well, and they were loose inside with a little bubble wrap wadded in one end of the box. But fortunately they seem to have survived in good shape.
Interesting. Mine were packed rather well. Packer rushed and maybe running out of packing? Different packers, one careless and one not?
  3. Are we still having this debate? Seems pretty straightforward to me.

I think its time I took some slightly better pictures of Saiga-12 mags. I'm on a digital system now, and I think I could make some beautiful shots!

Absolutely sir. Nothing like X-Ray Art. Simply beautimus.
  4. I like that! I wouldn't mind owning one myself so I could hunt with it. X54 ammo isn't exactly rare around here and its fairly cheap. What does something like that run?

ETA - oops just remembered you were overseas

IF you can get the SVDS parts and a donor rifle, say maybe a Tigr, plus the cost of of the build will put you around $8,000.

  5. Well, obviously it's not supposed to be welded. Dremel those welds off and if the square hole for the nut is too large, then weld up the hole, clean up the weld and cut a new hole. Don't know why they welded that grip nut. Maybe a one armed man that felt it was a pain in the ass to get the bolt started when replacing the grip? I don't have a clue as to why anyone would do that.

  6. Wish they wouldn't have changed that front locking lug from a wedge to a rectangle, but about five seconds or less with a dremel on the left side and now I can seat them in my 100 series sidefolder conversion. Had these mags for awhile and don't recall the 2nd gen giving me any seating problems, but after the conversion I couldn't get them seated. Duh. Front latch assembly in the way on the left side.oops.gif

    Thanks for the replies gentlemen.

Note the front lug of the factory 5 and 8 round mags. Quite a bit can be taken off with no ill effect.

Yup. That's what I noticed on my factory mags and then went to it with the dremel on the AGPs.

  8. Can anyone post a pic for comparison? Half the mags I have are marked 2nd gen. and the other half are not, but there's nothing stainless and the followers are the same on all of them. There is one difference which is the 2nd gen. marked mags have a square front locking tab where the unmarked have a tappered one.

Last night I took the springs out and only found one 2nd gen. mag with slight rust on it. Cleaned it off with steel wool and oiled it up. The rest of the springs were fine, so I just put a thin layer of oil on them just in case.

  9. Anyone have a pic of the "insert" that goes inside which closes the distance to the front latch release pushbutton and the interior back end of the recoil pad? Bought a pad awhile ago from Rusmil and there was no insert. Yes, I can use probably a piece of dowel rod, but what does the original look like?

  10. That's what I don't understand. Everything was tight and level/plumb. The trunnion is trashed worse than the dented receiver. Oh, I just realized I neglected to mention this is an S-12, if that matters. I'm going to try and find a way to pop that dent out. Any suggestions?

  11. DISREGARD....Found a way to get the dent out using a plate and a C-clamp finishing with flat tip on rivet gig in the press.

This may have been brought up before, but my search-fu is no good. I'm attempting to install a 100 series sidefolder rear trunnion. Attempted to dimple the left lower hole and wound up denting the receiver and bent the left side rear trunnion ear. It didn't even dimple the hole in the least bit. Anyone have a clue as to what happened? I'm using a 20T press and akbuilder gig.

  12. Curious about Eotech...

I just bought a 512 myself. I was going to use it on the .223, but I mounted it on the Saiga to try it out.

The 65 MOA ring is kind of blurry. Is that normal? The dot is fine. Shouldn't the image be nice and sharp?

Does that ring look kind of pixelated? If that's what you are refering to, I have the same thing with a 552. I inquired with Eotech and they said that it's supposed to look that way.
