They show some carbon build up on the muzzle side over time. I hardly ever adjust my elevation, so i dont see them wearing out. I mainly use them for quicker sight alignment and contrast.
Cool. Thanks for your feedback. Sounds like its not a bad idea to try them out.
-
I use them. I have the pink one (yea motherfuckers) on my iz132 and its good to go. I use the orange one on my S12. They've been fine for me.
Of course you can paint the site. You could even file it down for a thinner profile too.
Have they worn out with time?

Does any one here recommend it? I've been trying to improve my accuracy with iron sights but I've been struggling with my saiga 7.62x39. I have seen tapcos plastic front sight post online but I'm not sure if they are going to work. I know it's not the gun thats inaccurate because when my buddies shoot it, all of their shots are bullseyes at 20-25 yards! Can I just paint the post myself without messing up the sights?

Tapco makes 10 round AK mags, and sell them for less then $12. Install a bullet guide and your problem is solved.

Just ordered a bullet guide, and 4 tapco mags from Mississippi auto arms. Really good deal. Thanks for the advice!

If you still have feed issues after a bullet guide put a picture of you chamber with a mag in and i can tell you whats wrong.
i've tinkered on this a lot getting galil mags to work in the .223, 7.62 is a lot simpler comparatively
but after you bullet guide it should be very smooth sailing
Appreciate the help. Now, do I need a round or flat bullet guide?
Or......
-
well installing a bullet guide is a must, promags should be fine for range duty but tapcos are very cheep and work pretty good. but no matter what you get put in a bullet guide, the fact that the gun doesn't come with one is insane
Time to put in an online order for a bullet guide. Thanks man

It sounds like I should install a bullet guide and get some better mags

pro mags are stronger than steel anyway, if your having feed trouble put in a bullet guide, if it still wont feed get a new rifle. pro mags are the standard for all firearms. The Ultimate mag™
If I install a bullet guide that means I can't use the mags I have now right?
-
Is your Saiga "sporter" stock or have you installed a bullet guide and filed down the mag release to allow the use of standard AK mags?
edit: I see you're in the PRCalifornia... so standard-capacity AK mags are considered eeevil baby-death weaponry.
I have not installed a bullet guide and still have it in the sporter config. I'm using saiga "only" mags. And yes I'm stuck with a 10 round mags =/
The promags I have are the 10/30 mags that have a block to only allow 10 rounds so I can at least have the look of a 30 rounder.

I went to the shooting range earlier today and shot about 200 rounds through my 7.62x39 saiga. Prior to today, I've put about 500 rounds through it with no problem whatsoever. While shooting, I pulled the trigger and nothing happened. I looked and noticed a round didn't feed properly into the chamber And was slightly stuck. This happened a few times today. Really weird.
Is this a problem that comes from using promag magazines? I have heard promags are crappy and this is the first time I've experienced a problem. Do I need to get did of my mags or is the problem something else?

My product comparison/review of two of the better AK adapter tubes for AR style collapsible stocks, http://forum.saiga-1...apters-for-aks/
Please note, neither of these fold. And sucks that you have to deal with all the ASS'inine CA AW laws.
S12 has the VLTOR tube and stock
7.62x39 has the CAA and Magpul MOE
San Diego does indeed rock, awesome place to vacation and visit old friends/family.
Only place I know where in one day you can surf in the morning, snow ski in the afternoon and off road in the desert for the night.
I've been gone for 17yrs, and damned happy about it as I can't stand the laws & State/Local government.
SD's Police & Sheriffs are particularly bad in my opinion.
And the fucking cost of living is ridiculous.
Love to visit, just can't live there any longer... I'd couldn't have any of my guns as they sit.
Tell me about it bro! Laws and restrictions here suck. Ridiculous is right. So, any of the conversion kits kit I can get online still require me to purchase an adapter for it to fin my saiga?

I stay out on the Naval Base in Coranado 3 to 4 times a year! That place rocks! Old Town, the beach, and the food!
I have a CTR on the Saiga 12 and a MOE on an AR. To be truthful, I cant tell the difference between the two when I am firing, They are both comfortable and adjust easily. I bought mine from Carolina Shooters Supplies. They hooked me up with the butt and tube. The tube fixed directly to the Saiga 12 without adapters or tang removal.
That's cool man. So you didn't need to buy additional parts for ur conversion in adittion to the conversion kit from CSS?
-
Standard or folder? Did you cut off the tang?
I still have the monte Carlo stock on my saiga and havent made any modifications. I'm new And not familiar with the difference between standard or folded. A little help?

Wait and grab a Magpul STR, seriously, they were 2nd strongest in a recent buttstock smashing test.
San Diego, eh? I was born and raised in SD.
San Diego all the way! Will the str fit the saiga ak?
It'll fit as well as any other stock designed for the AR system..i.e. you'll need an adapter.
Good to know. How much you think I will spend on an adapter?

Magpul makes a number of collapsible stocks? Which one are you looking for? The CTR?
Sorry, Im looking at the MOE.

I've been looking at magpul's collapsible stock for my unconverted saiga. I will be placing an order for CSS's trigger and pistol grip kit and i need a good stock to go along with my rifle. Im on a budget so im buying parts individually little by little. They cheapest I've seen em for is $95. Anyone knows where I can get a better deal? Websites and prices will help.

I got the tapco conversion kit from CSS for mine also. I did use the stock screw that came with the saiga since the ones that come with the t-6 look shady. the pistol grip came with a steel nut also. The stock is a lil wobbly obviously since there is no buffer tube but for the $ its not bad and does the job. if your not wanting to spend a lot or just can't wait to tear into it (like me ...) I recommend the tapco. if you can magpul is a good choice also. here is what mines turned into so far
Great job man. Looks real good. Do you like the handrail?
-
The tubes are way different, the factory saiga one is just basically a tube connecting the rear sight block to the gas block, for the piston to go though, and nothing else. The ak74 tube is able to hold an upper handguard piece, since it has the brackets
I dont know about colors
Thats cool man. I think maybe towards the end of april ill work on picking up a tapco conversion kit to start off with.
-
I got the gas tube from MARKW1 on this forum, he gave me great price for a really nice part. I love it.
Ha, it looks like I changed to a normal ak handguard rail huh??
i didnt, I got the CHAOS rail for the 7.62x39, 223, 5.56 5.45, HIGHLY RECOMENDED!!! you wont have to fool around with a 50 dollar handguard retainer, or press off your front sight block or gas block to use a cheap ak retainer. It bolts right on and gives you that normal ak look
Its fuckin awesome!!!! and for115 for the chaos handguard, 25 for the gas tube it was absolutely worth it. Its definately something to save your money for.
here it is with the factory gas tube
then with an ak 74 gas tube
Nice! Whats the difference between the gas tube you bought from the one that came with the gun? Does the chaos rail come in colors?
-
If you go with the tapco t6, dont use the shitty screws they give you in the package. Use something a little bigger and more solid. My t6 never wiggled an inch where it was attatched to the receiver.
The main butt part, that slides over the tube, wiggles a bit, but thats what you get for the money you spend. Although, I never had a problem with movement when I pulled up to my shoulder.
Heres my rifle now. A hundred bucks here and a hundred bucks there, over the course of a year, will work wonders.
I see that you changed the gas tube and hand guard to a traditional ak look. Looks cool.
-
There are definately better stocks out there, but I liked my t6, it never gave me any grief. Its a decent option for someone who has limited money and wants to get something adjustable. Zip tie a piece of foam padding on the tube and its comfy as hell.
If money isnt an option Id say to go with an internal stock adapter and an ace skeleton or a solid billet type of stock. Youll never have to buy another one after that. You can also get an internal stock adapter with an AR tube type attatchment for a collapsable stock set up. Thats gonna run you over 100bucks. Then in the future if you want to make it a folding stock, you can do that too.
last year, right after my conversion...
Sick man. Nice talking to u again. Ur ak looks good. Does ur stock wiggle alot?
-
Nice job man. Looks great!
I just did the conversion on my 7.62x39 today, used the CSS T-6 kit with Molot pistol grip. Came with the nut, and it's steel. Did the bullet guide and modded the mag latch for AK mags while I had it all torn down.
Thats how i want mine to look once im done. Ur satisfied with tapco?
