  1. Whats up guys. I really want to start working a conversion on my new saiga. I had in mind doing the full conversion installing a collapsible stock, pistol grip(also adding the CA compliant bullet button), hand rail and moving the trigger group forward. I want to save money and I was looking at the tapco conversion kit. Should I save my money and get something a bit better or will I be good with tapco? I've been looking at CSS and I have seen magpul on their website along with many more brands. Im still new and need more help so I can make a good choice. Websites and prices will help thanks.

  2. Convert it. I had the tapco system and converting it makes it worth more the trigger is WAY better plus its fun to do.

Im kinda scared to mess with it myself so I might just pay a gunsmith to do it. Im still new with guns. Thanks for your responce.

  3. I'm planning on changing out my saiga's cheap montecarlo stock it comes with and replacing it for a tapco t6 stock. There's a Tapco kit that doesn't require me to more the trigger group forward. My question is, should I chose that option or should I do a conversion and move the trigger forward like a traditional ak? I'm not sure if it will make a big difference? Can anyone help?

    Thanks.

  4. Just noticed you're in Commiefornia. I believe you should join a website called Calguns.net (if i'm not mistaken) before modding your Saiga to accept surplus magazines. Your state has some very retarded gun laws and you need to learn them so you dont end up in Pelican Bay.

Yeah I know sucks we can only have 10 round mags. I was considering regular AK mags on my Saiga because they are way cheaper! I cant get 30 mags here so I have no intentions of getting into serious trouble with the law. If its going to cost me too much I guess i can only stick with the saiga mags.

  5. So I want to change the original handguard on my saiga and put one that you see on other ak's. I've done some research and did see that i would have to get a few new parts. I'm not sure if im correct, but can any one help and tell me what do i need to convert it properly and also how much will this cost me?

....and this is what I want my Saiga to look like

Also, what do I need to do if I want to allow my saiga to take regular ak magazines? Im a new shooter and would appreciate help from more experienced shooters.

  6. My WASRs all shoot great no problems at all dont let the gun snobs talk you out of one. An AK is very basic no need to spend $1000 and up. With the WASR you get side rail, chrome lined barrel, G2 trigger. To me the WASR is the definition of an AK cheap, simple, works enough said.

I'm with you 100%. I'm actually going tomorrow to possibly buy a WASR. Thanks for you advice!

  7. I really like my WASR, but I would NEVER buy one sight unseen.

If you are getting to handpick, make sure you get the best of the lot, I even got to swap out the cleaning rod and a mag for some better looking ones.

But make sure you look for the triangle/arrow trunion marks.

ill be looking for those trunion marks. thanks for the heads up!

My WASR goes bang every time the trigger is squeezed. Never had any issues with it and it sees more range time than a lot of my other weapons because it was cheap and I don't feel bad if it gets beat up. Century doesn't build WASRS BTW pinetopfirefighter. They import them as is and only open up the magwell to accept regular AK mags.

ive heard good and bad things about century. but im liking what im hearing from you and the rest of the guys on this topic.

  8. If you can hand select your WASR, yes, there are some really good ones out there. Do your research and look for the ones with the military arsenal marks, and matching numbers.

Quality is night and day versus the unmarked WASR's

I picked this one up 3 weeks ago. Very Nice.

I'm definitely hand picking my AK. A local gun shop has a few in stock and will give me a good deal on it compared to other shops in my area. Thanks for the advice.

I own .....9 Aks now. Arsonals, Saigas, WASRs, Norincos, stamped, milled, you name it, I've got one.... of them all... I shoot the WASR the most, BUT... its a hand selected wasr 10/63.

they can be as good as any other AK in the game, they can be bad... really bad, but the Wasr bad rep was mostly gained thru the use of out of spec parts which to my understanding is standard practice no longer. Unless your buying a used Wasr from a few years back, sight unseen.... I wouldnt worry about it. All the ones I've seen lately have been good solid rifles with very few of the old problems wasrs were known for... and of those, most are cosmetic.

For the money, I still prefer dollar for dollar the wasr over the converted Saiga, Its just more gun for the money....

/shrug, just my opinion, others may vary

Appreciate your opinion and experience. It sure helps to hear it from someone who already owns one.

  9. I've been in the market for a 7.62x39 Saiga in the sporting configuration. I have looked online and in my local gun shops and they are all on backorder. I just shot the Saiga ak 47 from Arsenal at a local range and I really liked it. Besides arsenal, what other Ak brands do you guys recommend? I want something that is affordable but reliable and durable. There is just so many AK47 makers out there so I wanted feedback and opinions. The cheaper I can get one for, the better.

    Thanks!

  10. I've been looking at a 7.62x39 Saiga. Every local gun shop I call they tell me that the saiga in that particular caliber is on back order and they dont know when they will get more in stock. Im considering a Saiga in .308. Any one have an idea how much I should expect pay for one in .308 caliber?

Any good websites out there? I live in California. The "Crossroads of the West Gunshow" is coming to my city in march. You guys think I can find one there for a good deal?

    Thanks!

  11. I posted pics in another thread, but once you get it zeroed, it can be a pretty accurate meat getter or man stopper out to about 150-200 yds. I found out my rear sight was off slightly, thus the hits to the left. That's being corrected as we speak by the local smith.

25 yds off the rest, WWB/tulammo, 10 rounds each(WWB is touching)

50 yds off the rest, WWB ammo after cant found and rifle repositioned:

100 yds off-hand, rapid fire, Tulammo(before I found the sight cant):

Thats pretty cool. I cant wait till I start shooting mine. Thanks for the pics.

  12. I'm just gonna say this. It's prolly been said before. In the end of it all. After all the upgrades and mods and do-hickeys attached or what have you. The rifle and the ammo is only as accurate as the shooter is.

Hope you're practicing good fundementals, because that's always the best start. :) Happy shooting. :)

I agree. Ill need to get good practice to pick up skills

    Thanks

  13. why does every one get offended with the cap locks? i came to http://forum.saiga-12.com because i know this forum is for saiga fans and owners.

In the land of the internet all caps indicates yelling/shouting

IN THE LAND OF INTERNET, YOU SHOULD JUST FUCKING REALIZE IT'S TEXT ON A SCREEN MAN! Thanks for listening.

    Thank you lol

HOW ACCURATE IS A 7.62X39 SAIGA? I KNOW I WOULD HAVE TO GET GOOD AMMO TO BE ACCURATE ON ANY GUN. AND BY GOOD I MEAN EXPENSIVE! BUT WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM THIS RIFLE AT 100 YARDS? 200? 300?

ILL BE GETTING A SAIGA RIFLE SOON SO I WANTED TO KNOW A LITTLE MORE BEFORE I SHOOT IT MYSELF.

    THANKS!

    misc-caps_forum.jpg

just joking, it for what ever reason is considered proper etiquette to not use all caps, all caps is considered yelling, yeah makes no sense to me either.

as for your question, a couple of things,

good ammo helps to get consistent groups several consider Lapua match grade ammo one of the best, but it cost .50 cents to a dollar a round when you can find it, (gunbroker usually has some someone is selling) you can get good groups with silver wolf or the like (my gun liked Baurnel ammo) but you will get fewer fliers with better ammo. some say 1 out of 10 will be a flier with surplus ammo.

2nd, with the open sights on a gun a tight group is really hard to get, a good 4x or 6x scope will get you much better groups, open sights I can only get 7-8 inch groups but I can get 3 inch groups with a scope. (3 inch groups is 10 rounds to a group) I dont have a saiga, I have a norinco Mak 90, but am getting a saiga and have been checking them out.

I would say with a saiga 3 to 4 inch groups would be about average (again this is 10 rounds to a group) if everything is working right and set up properly, good ammo, no wind, good trigger etc.

Thanks for your responce. seems like a scope would be a good idea to improve accuracy at long dinstances. any affordable brands you recommend?

  14. I live in california. If i were to convert my saiga stock and add a pistol grip I would have to install a mag lock. Sucks but thats what I would need to do to be compliant to California's regulations. Will a dragunov stock be considered a pistol grip? Curious and would like to find out.
